Thanks for growing with us!
On our recent visit to Gardener’s Supply Company in Burlington, Vermont we came across the biggest trellis we have ever seen. The Jardin Tower was in their trial garden area with some beans growing on it. We knew immediately that we had to have one for ourselves.
In this video we take you through the process of cleaning up the area around our Proven Winners Scentsation Honeysuckle and putting together the trellis. This was a very fun day getting to add a very cool new structure to our garden.

@@growformegardening I’m in southern maine. I’m going to get my hubby to take a road trip to the store up there! I not sure I have a need for an 8 foot Obilesk.. but I do have a honeysuckle that would love it! And FYI, I’m not sure you can kill a honeysuckle on e they’re established. Mime was way crazy last year… and the year before.. with little pruning 🙂. Last fall I cut it down so much so that it looked like a shrub. Just this season, it put on 4 branches (that doesn’t sound right…) that are at least 10 feet long.. and several more that are 6-8’.

I’ve been wanting to ask, and seems like the perfect opportunity to discuss honeysuckle & trellises. Where might one find the trellis that the “Ghost Honeysuckle’ is on? And might I add the PW ‘Scentsation Honeysuckle’ does have the most divine scent. I have one planted at the base of a very mature Weeping Willow with it wrapping itself around a section of the branches that touch the ground. It’s now worked it’s way up and after the Hummingbirds feed on the flowers, they rest and perch on the wispy branches. It’s the sweetest scene to watch 😍

Oh that trellis is a big box find. We wanted something as neutral as possible. The hooks we used to hold it up you can find on Amazon. In the description box we have a link! I do will we had planted a weeping willow in the back corner of the garden. There is something magical about them.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel. This is a little off topic, but do you trim/prune any of your new hydrangeas. I have a ton of new hydrangea plants that I have bought in the past month from Proven Winners, and am expecting several more. (I have become obsessed with hydrangeas; never grew them before) they are about 12 inches high and do not look like they have been trimmed recently. Do I just leave them alone after planting? And will they bloom next year if I do nothing.

Beautiful trellis, however you need to pound further into the ground. I had a large trellis covered in honeysuckle that would get ripped out of the ground with very high winds!! Had to give up and put lighter vine on it.

Wonderful trellis with this honeysuckle in it! Every time I watch your videos I learn a new thing. I thought how Christopher tied the honeysuckle with the trails was smart. I will apply the same technic for my climbing roses so they don’t get directly in contact with the trellis. Thank you Christopher!

Beautiful trellis and it looks perfect in that spot. It will look so gorgeous with the honeysuckle growing up it. Here’s a dumb question. How do you anchor the post in the ground so wind doesn’t lean it? (only have small trellises that stay put once stuck deep into the ground).

That’s why we do the auger to get the trellis in deeper. Once the soil settle in they are really stuck in there

@growformegardening I have one and pretty much all the power tools I use for furniture renovations. He likes the results of my gardening, but he just thinks it's too much work. I'm a master gardener. My last "labor of love" was maintaining my friend's elderly parents' 49 rose bushes. Needless to say, I rooted many cuttings from them. I just LOVE working with my flowers, especially the roses. If you lived close, I'd pass on to you some of my Spice bush. It's really a Golden Currant, but it blooms very early (probably now in your zone) and smells like cloves. Beautiful yellow flowers along the stems. They evolve into a yellowish green berry. The birds love them, but they're also safe for human consumption. I wish we were neighbors, lol.

I had the same situation not too long ago with a coral honeysuckle. Absolutely love it. Not so much I had a small arbor (it’s huge) but I was so surprised it grew so quickly I had to get another for the other side. Good tip on cutting back lamb ear. It does turn into slime. Isn’t it awesome that the lams ear is a pollinator magnet? Enjoying your videos.
