Installing the ECOFLOW 800W Alternator Charger in our RV

In this video we install the Ecoflow 800W Alternator Charger in our Winnebago Solis Pocket 36A. We previously installed the Ecoflow Delta 2 Max Power Station and Smart Extra Battery. The alternator charger will serve to connect these batteries to the house batteries in our Solis Pocket. Once installed, this setup allows us to re-charge the Ecoflow batteries from the alternator, as well as feed power from the Ecoflow batteries to supplement the capacity of the house batteries. The installation process involves finding a path to feed the power cable down through the floor of the van in order to reach the two house batteries then hooking everything up.
In order to not overload the alternator in the van, we plan to set the alternator re-charge rate to something a lot lower than the maximum of 800 watts. We also will not turn on alternator charging if the house batteries are low and are already drawing a lot of power from the alternator to recharge.

Thanks for creating this video Jim and Cindy!!! I appreciate you guys! Did you end up putting any spray foam back underneath the van around the hole? Or any of the putty or sealant there instead or only on the inside? Also, how are you taking off the top wood panel that covers the wires behind the ecoflow? It looks like you have a screw there that you unscrewed to get it off, but mine does not have any screws there. I tried slipping a flathead screwdriver in the edges to try and pry it open. H again, good questions! I did put putty in to fill the gaps on both the top side of the hole through the floor, and from the bottom as well. Then I used the black silicone on the inside and I did put a circle of spray foam back underneath as well. As far as than panel behind the batteries, ours has one screw on each side so we can easily take it off. Unfortunately I don't know how yours is attached if you don't have screws there, hopefully you can figure that out. Good luck!

Thanks! When you are driving, what voltage does your alternator show it gets up to? Did you change the start voltage of the alternator charger in the app? Mine started with the default setting of 13v as the start volt, but even driving on the expressway, my alternator was showing it stayed around 12.8v. I tried changing the start voltage on the app to 12.5 and then it started working/charging, but I’m surprised the alternator wasn’t getting higher than that. Also, is there any scenario where we would want to set the app to Battery Maintenance? Thanks!!

@@sweetej223 That is a great question, and we don't know the answer to it. We will check that next time we are out on the road and reply back. We have not done much on the road charging yet because we keep the ECOFLOW topped off from shore power when parked in the garage. I am a little worried that by dropping the starting voltage so low, you may end up charging the ECOFLOW from the house batteries by mistake when you turn the engine off. When you drive, are you checking that your house batteries are charged back to full before turning on the ECOFLOW alternator charge function? That is how I plan to operate to ensure I don't put any extra load on the alternator by trying to charge house batteries and ECOFLOW from the alternator at the same time. In any case I'll let you know what I find.

Oh and to your other question, I don't see a role for battery maintenance function at this time with the alternator charger connected only to the house batteries.

I may have missed something watching your video. Do you have to switch anything over before you start your van

Hi there! Thank you for your question. Everything is controlled in the mobile app... Start your van normally. Then, when you are ready, driving etc, turn on the alternator charging to feed the Ecoflow system.. best to do it when the house batteries are charged up. Then start charging up the Ecoflow. Does that help?

If you are feeding 12v power from Ecoflow to the house batteries ("reverse charge mode") then yes I would turn that function off before starting the van. Once you have the van running the house batteries will charge from the alternator instead. And in the app you can switch to regular charge mode recharge the Ecoflow also.
