As a Brit with our modest sized houses, I'm always envious of people who have the wall space for these things.

Wait… the Brit’s are always griping our houses are wood instead of stone and brick… ya mean there is something American the Brit’s like?
@BobHannent

@@SuperVstech oh sure, the American houses are built like the three pigs house made of sticks, but I cannot deny my envy at the space you get. I live in a small village and my 1960s house doesn't have a basement, it's just 830 sqft of living space. My modern car hardly fits on my driveway because British cars were smaller in the 60s. My garage is probably under 300 sqft. I wouldn't move to the USA but I can admire the available land from a far.

Kudos to Canadian Solar for asking you to demo this system. Looks like a stylish, easy to set up, turn key system. Interesting they want pictures of your install. I guess that means they will actually honor the warranty if not professionally installed? That’s better than a lot of manufacturers out there today! Give us the 411 follow up after a month or so. 👍☀️⚡️💡🔋

Looks like a nice system and I was prepared to inquire until I saw the need for internet connection. For me this is a deal-breaker. I don’t want anything cyber-based attached to our power system whatsoever. Unless I’m able to opt-out, this is not for me.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 8 ай бұрын
You can opt out. You can still use your own wifi to connect or use blue tooth. I think the minimum "connection" to keep the warranty is every 30 days. I will ask to make sure tho so dont quote me. I know there are people out in the boonies that dont have any service. That system should be able to keep a warranty.

I have reservations about putting electrical components on basement floors. Every permanent structure in every basement that I have owned was lifted up 3 inches off the floor by an additional concrete slab so that any moisture [or flooding] doesn't affect the equipment. The batteries being batteries, I would lift it off the floor 6 inches.

Batteries, those beasts of burden. In 1975 I packaged a UPS battery bank for a Univac system that was being relocated. There were 88 batteries, each weighing 165 lbs (75 kg). That made getting them into their shipping boxes “difficult” as they could not be inverted. Also, they were lead acid. So if one of them was dropped and cracked or broke open, sulfuric acid spill would ensue. We did the job without incident…a serious relief.

@@AveRage_Joe Thanks for the comment Joe. It was serious, and an ad hoc temp job! My co-worker and I were both 18 and children of company employees. I was 160 lbs and she was probably 110 lbs. So together we outweighed 1 battery. We also were tasked with cleaning the company’s terminated graphite/carbon fiber research lab (a very dirty job).

I did my install in phases so main house roof was phase 1 and it has only 160w panels and the Sunny Boy 4.0US. Then I installed 360w panels on my garage and built a studio that I put more panels on also 360w. Total is 10kw. I would love to redo my main house panels with 360s and then do something Nice like this EP Cube. All of my panels are Canadian Solar. Thanks for the detailed installation video. I'm considering this system with two inverters and 5 batteries each (you need 5 batteries to get the 7.6 KW output power when you don't have solar panels) for a whole home back up (so no sub-panel) as I'm mainly interested in instant backup and I may add solar panels in the future but not sure yet. However, I need to connect high consumption equipment (i.e. EV charger and A/C units) directly to the EP Cube gateway. How many circuits does it allow ? (I think the right term is load shedding)

Nice job on the install, and presentation. At 23:45 you mention the CT cubes, would you explain how they are used, and maybe make a video on how they are installed and utilized. Keep up the good work.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 8 ай бұрын
Thanks. The CT clamps are current sensing clamps/sensors and they just clip on. You "flip open" the sensors to slip around you mains wires and then snap them shut. I actually have 2 different kinds lol. The black ones are used with the EP Cube and used when installing the system for a partial home backup. That means when you are powering a sub panel like I did. This way of install will still power EVERYTHING in the home including the mains panel. If the grid goes out, those CT"s sense along with the gateway the grid is out and then stop powering the main panel but still continue to power the subpanel. The white CT's used in my panel are the Emporia smart energy home monitor. I purchased it a while back so I could see how much power certain things were using which also allows you to track over time. I wanted to see how much power my AC, Stove and Dryer used so I could calculate how much solar and battery I would need. This is the Emporia and is an aff link btw -> amzn.to/46DXcyx

Agree you can" build a piece of junk". But a simular system can be built way way cheaper than this with a JK BMS's good quality cells (QSO, or Docan) etc. My 60KW system has DC & AC circuit breakers "T class" fuses, 4 x JK BMS's, 2 x MPP 6KWh hybrid inverters etc and still came in at under $13000. By the way what has "high tempreture tape" got to do with it?@@rv10flyer84

ahhh nope its a bit more to build yourself but can be done ... Seplos case/ bms costs 650 delivered you assemble and a sp6500 inverter for 1150 Batteries (14kw delivered for 1600 usd).. Looking at their web site for 33k system its 27000usd Build one yourself for seven grand..(that includes cabling and such) And with interest rates and inflation the way things are I would Rather build myself and Know how to repair it.. And no an easy setup and warranty is not worth the extra 20000K in these economic times... The whole idea of going off grid is to save money not be indebted to someone for the next 30 years.. Unless your trying to sell something to some one ... which is what KZbin is now... one big ADVERTISEMENT! @@rv10flyer84

Pretty awesome video and your sense of humor, first time viewing any of your videos. Question - I noticed that the EP Cube inverter in the (All In one) has a TIGO connector, so is it compatible with Tigo solar optimizers? I kind of want to have individual monitoring on the solar panels to show individual panel production. What are you going to use? Thanks !
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yeah it has the tigo RSD. I am pretty sure it works with the optimizers but can check. I believe you need to use the tigo app to see individual production. I am using TS4-A-2F on one string at the moment and they allow 2 panels for one rsd unit. They dont show any production tho. Still need to add them to the other roof string. I will also add that EP Cube has updated the app and you can now see each string production. Thats a plus because before it just showed a total for all strings added.

Excellent video on the installation and operation of the system! Looking forward to the video of the generator hookup. I’m wondering if the EP cube Gateway requires a 240v generator ( I see the L1 / L2 terminals) or if it will accept a 120v feed.

I cannot judge the technical capabilities of the EP Cube system based on this video. A short snapshot from the app on a smartphone is definitely not enough for me. But I can say a lot about the external appearance. The designers at EP Cube did a great job. If the installation had been professionally carried out UNDER PLASTER (I mean that the necessary PVC and steel pipes ARE HIDDEN and do not disfigure the home "power plant"!), the system would delight with its elegant simplicity! This appearance is the path to market success, it is the path to the future.

You know what I'm going to ask... When you do those load tests, make sure to test imbalanced loads. I always like to compare new inverters to Schneider and that is the BIG differentiator. The install looks great! Do they have a setup for off-grid?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 8 ай бұрын
I will try and do that actually. I usually forget that lol so thanks! You can use this off-grid for the most part however you will need to connect when you set it up. I know you need internet connection to commission, update and a "grid" connection at the start. After that I dont think you technically need anything. If you have a local area network with wifi then you could still use the app to see SOC. If you used a generator to charge then that wifi connection would be great to have.

Loved watching the video and appreciate the install and details. However, when you mentioned you can only communicate with it through an app, that's a hard NO for me and many others. I've, unfortunately, had the pleasure of experiencing many hurricanes over the last 12-15 years. A few of them left us without cell service and internet for days/weeks. I'm not relying on my cell phone to(monitor/revise) the power of my house. The phone can compliment my $20,000+ off grid system, but it shouldn't make or break it.

Thanks and Appreciate that. I understand what you are saying and a screen or a way to change/view settings right on the unit would be great. Since the video was getting to be so long I didnt have time to say ALL the things. So yes, you need a phone or tablet to view and change settings. If your internet goes down, that is ok. You can still view/change settings from your own LAN WIFI. If you turn off that circuit in your home to save on power then you can log in/connect with blue tooth.🤘

I was wondering what you had in the works. I’ve only ever seen 1 other install of these and it wasn’t from someone who usually does solar stuff. I’ll be honest, when I hear “there’s a few hours worth of training before commissioning” that kinda turns me off. I guess it’s probably to help with common issues people experience. It does look like a very clean install though. After looking at some of the comments of people concerned that you ditched your Growatt, you’ve got the same idea I have. I’m gonna figure out how to put in a transfer switch to be able to switch between multiple test systems. Did you happen to mention what the output size of the inverter was? Maybe I missed it. How’s the response time in the app? Hopefully it refreshes more than every 5 min.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 8 ай бұрын
YesSirrrrr! Have been getting stuff ready for this install and doing a few other things around the house lol. Oh and also went to that Vegas thing. Anyways, Yeah the training you guessed it. Its more of online videos with a few quizzes to make sure you were paying attention 😏. I would say its more for someone who wants to become an installer. Yes my other system is all intact, just needing to throw in a transfer switch so I can switch between the 2 or 3 if you count the generator. A single inverter has 7.6kw output. Response time of the app is less then a min. More on the 30seconds time frame. I can check that tho so dont quote me lol
