We had a Gen-y for several years on our Solitude. Our F450 had a bed camera that could see the hitch. Buy a magnet with an extension rod that has a yellow ball that sits on the hitch ball. Amazon has them. Sit the magnet ball marker on the truck bed ball Lower the ball on magnet flag so you can see it when backing into the hitch. Another tip get some wide red reflection tape and put in straight down on gen-y Hitch so you can see where the round hitch cap is. You should be able to pick it on your bed camera and or on side mirrors when backing up trying to get center. Good luck we loved our gen-y.

i have the GooseBox on my 5th wheel with a cross-bed tool box in the truck bed. I mounted a camera on the bottom of the toolbox so I can line up properly while backing up. I also mounted a camera at the junction of the wheel well and side panel of the bed so I can see when the GooseBox is above the ball. My trailer backup camera system came with two cameras and I added a third (the system supports up to four cameras). The camera on the side of the bed keeps me from having to constantly get out and check if I'm positioned above the ball (I don't have anyone to act as a spotter).

@ SportTrek does approve the Gen Y. They were super close when we got our trailer but not out of the beta process. So there is lots of confusion over what the proper hitch is, I can’t believe the RV industry works this way. Gen Y can’t say for sure what the correct hitch is, we basically narrowed in down to the 8055 AL but they’re still not sure if the holes will line up correctly. Super frustrating.

Your explanation of other fifth wheel hitches in not correct at all, including your explanation of big rigs. They all have some type of jaws that will clamp around the kingpin to hold it securely. I think your confusing the fifth wheel plate, which yes will "pop" up as you say but that's because it is articulated to allow movement of the trailer. Inside that plate is a set of jaws that grab the pin itself. B&W doesn't have some revolutionary design, they are all locking jaws
