Installing the Racing Half Cage - BMW E46 M3

With all of the prep that I have been doing over the past few months getting the car to be more race ready, it is finally time to install the half cage. I wanted the added control that comes from a racing seat and harness as well as the added safety so I opted to get the Kirk Racing half cage to do the job for now. The cage adds an additional 70 lb back into the car which offsets a lot of the weight pulled out.
I decided to go with some fun color that I liked for the bar color as it has become a theme with me in life. I do intended however to install a full cage one of these days, so this isn't permanent.

It's a Kirk Racing roll bar, and I got it from bimmerworld. It's available for both sunroof, and no sunroof.

Trying to decide between this vs a harness bar for a stock power e46 seat time car...any opinion?

I was in the same camp when I was trying to decide. What ultimately swayed me was the fact in the event of a rollover, when the roof collapses, you run a significantly higher risk of serious injury or death as a harness is meant to be used with a cage. The harness holds you body stiff and if the roof collapses there's nowhere for your body to go unlike in a regular seatbelt, so you could very easily crush your spine. I ultimately decided that the extra cost to have roll protection was necessary.

@@moxyshredz in my opinion, cut costs on non safety features. Doesn't mean you have to go all out, but at least have the bare minimum.

Are half cages allowed in drift competitions? To tandem and all that

You would need to look into the rules with your local organizer. Everywhere has a different rule for what is required. Some require some for of protection, others require none whatsoever.

I got mine from Bimmerworld and its a Kirk Racing one. You can git it for if you do or dont have the sunroof installed in order for better clearance. Mine is without sunroof obviously
