I’m a master electrician with 20+ years of experience. In this video I will demonstrate how to replace old 120 volt fluorescent under cabinet lighting with new 24v LED tape light.
This application is one that many people have asked about. How is it done when the cabinets and drywall is already installed? This can be done in an application that never had any under cabinet lighting as well.
If you don’t mind patching drywall it is easier to go that route. We never like the mess of time constraint of repairing the drywall so we’ve found that removing the electrical boxes is much easier and faster in the long run.

That looks really good. Been doing electrical work for 30 years and this is my first tape light install for under cabinet lights. lol my situation is a new home build so luckily no drywall. lol

Good job, it's always difficult to do this after it's finished. I started using the driver/dimmer/switch devices, they are over a $100 but well worth it in my opinion as you can run your low voltage wire easier than 14-2.

What size wire do you run for the tape light. 18 gauge? I was gonna use 16 but I think that may be larger than I actually need. Short run... less than 25 ft of tape light. Thanks

Am I able to run 3 separate 8ft led strips off of your one 120v driver?

Maybe I'm wrong, but sure seems to me that the NM cable needs to be protected inside the cabinet. My inspector would call me on that, but it could be up to interpretation. 334.15 (B)

Hey Joe, how many feet of tape light can you run off of one driver? And are you using 16 or 18/2? I’m looking to transition to your product as I do several custom houses a year. Glad to be done with the old fixtures and dealing with 14/2. Do you offer bulk deals on supplies. I also don’t want to deal with the Amazon crap. Thanks!

We have a chart on the website to help with wire distances and voltage drop. Our 60w driver is good for 20ft of tape light. We have drivers that are 120w(40ft) and 200w(60ft) as well. Just make sure the longer runs are larger wire(14awg) and we have found it’s best to solder leads in the middle to help the tape light with voltage drop so it’s not all on the end.
