Nice update Chris. When the PCV system is functioning well, it's definitely the turbo"s. They go out at appr. 100.000 miles. Maybe time for the Chinese 17T turbos. They became better and better over the years. The guys from 'zeroto60' in Downunder use them on their 660Hp n54. They are holding up pretty well. Good luck, and have a great week, Nico

I purchased 6 Index 1 injectors from a guy that said he knew they were all good and that they had only 35,000 Miles on them. I took a chance because he only wanted $200 for all six. I installed them myself and have been running them for two years now and they have been flawless so far. I have my car tuned with 17T turbos and a full "ULTRA BUDGET" Modded N54 2008 335XI car. After getting the proper tune and replacing every single sensor and doing every bit of maintenance on the car the car is making over 650HP and Torque!! NO KIDDING! It's INSANE! I'm running an E40 E85 fuel mix and tune on it and it's SO MUCH FUN and has been running excellent for the last year and a half!! NO problems! I hope the injectors continue to work for quite a while because we all know the crazy prices for the Index 12's or even a set index 11's used is not cheap at all. But I was told even before I bought those injectors that the index 1's were one of the most reliable iterations of injectors that BMW had used. I don't know if that's at all a fact but so far I'm a happy camper!

I have Injector -01 and one of my decoupling rings are bad and I didn’t know till I saw a video on KZbin , the ring bent downward on one injector somehow and it’s lose would explain the the slight misfire. The car starts up and idles fine , just has a blip like something is dripping. The car shut down cylinder 5. I thought it was spark plugs and wires because I got misfire and CCId -29 . I switched 5 to 6 , then 5 had power and 6 went out . I noticed it was loose but didn’t know it could cause misfire, so I’m ordering a set which is about $112 and will replace all 6 myself . I was going to go index 12 but don’t have Foxwell Handheld to code injectors .

True project on your hands! Changed my n54 turbos due to similar issues and a few other parts. Works fine now…🤞nice to at least see the idrive was an easy fix!

It very well could be the turbos. But I would check or replace the pcv valve before replacing the turbos. The pcv valve is a lot cheaper for a start.... but good luck 👍

after my journey figuring out my n54 smoking issues, as well as fuel in the oil, i bought 6 used index 12 injectors, i cleaned my vanoss, and did a few other things. turns out, bad hpfp has a bad seal and was dropping gas into the oil, when the car was running the gas was burning out of the oil and causing smoke. it still has rough idle but i feel safer now

@@TheBimmerBarn it has new spark plugs less than 3k miles, i honestly think it’s excessive carbon build up in the intake ports. i haven’t had time to get around to doing a walnut blast yet though and i still have to buy the equipment, but it’s very clear that the previous owner hasn’t had it done in atleast the last 80k miles

Definitely turbo seals are pretty much shot. Mine are going bad now and it's starting to smoke

Pcv for sure mine was idling rough lots of whit smoke than sometimes none changed it and all good now

Brooooooo I have the same issue. Smoke poof . ‘08 N54 . PCV w catch can installed . New HPFP AND sensor , new plugs coils . . Stage 2 Vargas Turbos all the piping etc etc .. but the smoke ???!! Daaa fuggggg is it ?

@@joseandresespinodevora6697 yes not turbos not a pcv Not injectors not anything other than the dam motor . Cylinders 1&2 80psi… about half way thru a motor swap now with fresh stage 3 turbos all the gaskets etc etc …. Hope it’s is less of an issue

@@joseandresespinodevora6697 with a lot of research and a lot of asking people and trial and error. I was able to find a guy here in Chicago specializes in M4 is a matter fact they call him THE N54 KING so I took the car to him a week and a half ago and he started to do the swap for me

Surprisingly, I didn't have to do any coding and it's already working great! I haven't tested the nav or voice control yet, or checked the faults, but I'm sure it should probably be coded in order to work 100%

I don't think I would ever install a used on any BMW I work on. I always insist that clients use new parts only. ESPECIALLY critical parts that undergo tons of stress such as injectors or vanos solenoids.

Usually I'd agree with you, but for this car I wanted to make sure it would run properly before I start dumping tons of money into it! I'd hate to buy expensive injectors and then find out there's a hole in the block 😅 but you're right! Buy the right parts for your bimmer 👌

I have an 07 bmw 335i with the same problem I changed my turbos 2 times an d still have the same problem mecanic shop told me it needs my valve stem seals replacement and they don't know how to do it the wanna me to swap my engine, an arm and a leg to do the job 😅 🙃 😑

Sounds like the valve stem seals, but the motor doesn't need to be replaced necessarily. It could even be fixed without removing the engine, maybe try calling some other shops in your area for a quote? Good luck!

The engine is bullet proof and possibly one of bmws best most over engineered engines. The accessories are the problem, not the engine. Excluding gaskets ^

@@N54.S6 don't agree with this. This engines ware made to brake. I think is the worst engine and agree over engineered but in a bad way. If you want a good engine put m54b30 in it and problem solved you can even turbo it if you wish to have more power

@@bartoszkotowski8281 As some one who owns an 07 335i "e90" from 60k miles and now sitting at 201725, I can say your wrong in 100 different ways. I have worked on n54s for year's. Been tuned since 70k and never had an engine failure. They don't "brake", they "leak". Can they fail? He'll ya. But, don't sit here and tell me that when I'm sure you never owned an n54 motor or even worked on them lol.

@@N54.S6 I have an 07 335i sedan with the same smoking issue but it came after I put new catless down pipes. At start on day 1 it was heavy smoke now day 2 and 3 its mostly at idle, and smells like fuel. The T17's still get up in boost but after 4k in any gear limp mode sneaks in. I have new coils and spark plugs going on next and a new metal pcv valve coming. Hopefully those fix it if not the next step is injectors or turbos

N54 is one the strongest 6 lines engines in the world , 900hp without any modifications inside the engine
