Actually, XP will install "out of the box" on a 60MHz Pentium 1 with 64MB of RAM. 233MHz is just the "minimum recommended" clock speed. And you will get better performance with more RAM and an older version of XP (the service packs slow it down quite noticeably)
@RWL20127 жыл бұрын
Also the Pentium MMX 233MHz is from 1997, not 1996.
@NTGTechnology7 жыл бұрын
All the information i could find said 233mhz was the minimum and I dont have an rtm copy of windows xp to try and the machine did have more ram when i got i was just seeing how well it ran on minimum specs

A bit higher specced, but a 333MHz Pentium II with 512MB of RAM, 32MB NVidia Riva TNT2 Ultra and a Sound Blaster Live! was my DAILY USE computer from 2002-2004! Running Windows XP Professional RTM (SP0)! Had dial-up internet back then though haha

I have to beg to differ! I installed XP pro on a Pentium 166mhz with 32mb ram and a 3.2GB HDD if I am not mistaken. It was a HP workstation from the mid 90s(95). It ran slow but it did work! So the minimum is Pentium 100, 32mb ram, 3GB HDD at least that is the REAL LIFE experience requirements. My customized XP installer CD that fits on a 512MB CF card requires LESS!

Pentium 1 wouldn't have the right instruction sets to run it. Would likely just crash with so little RAM anyways.

@NTGTechnology5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it would. The problem here is that the processor doesn't have SSE, which as far as I know all version of Firefox need.

Do you really think I actually wanted to browse the web on this thing? Also, pretty sure that Opera would require SSE which the CPU definitely does not have.
@Bewefau6 жыл бұрын
you need more ram. don't use the wireless card or get a better one or just use wired internet. You might need to disable some things from start up too.
@NTGTechnology6 жыл бұрын
The whole point is to be on the minimum requirements. Plus, its not like i was actually going to use this for anything.
@Bewefau6 жыл бұрын
NTG Television ok well you need to disable some things at start up. Or something like that windows XP was base on the NT and was very stable. You shouldn’t be crashing it.
@NTGTechnology6 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the wifi drivers crashing? If you are, the wifi drivers and software themselves sucked. They crash on 98 and 2000 as well, so its not exclusive to this scenario with XP.
