Best Practices: Optimizing CAD Data

Retargeting CAD data for offline rendering or real-time applications is traditionally a very difficult process. In this video, we’re going to focus on using InstaLOD’s powerful and fast polygon optimization technology. In later videos, we will focus on using Occlusion Culling to remove hidden faces and InstaLOD’s remesher to bring even the most difficult topologies into a VR scenario.

InstaLOD is terribly underrated. I think this is one of if not the most important tool for asset creation for small indie teams.

Is this able to fix the orientation of CAD files that work with non Y-Up coordinates?

You can paint on vertices to weight them during the optimization, or use a selection set to lock vertices. Using quad-draw is not necessary, it's fully automated based on the input geometry.
