think people are forgetting that Reinhart not only scored over 50 goals and was amazing on our power play, but the guy was great at killing penalties, scoring short handed goals, playing defense as a forward besides being a high hockey IQ always talking on the bench helping out the boys and paul.

I have been cracking up at the media reaction to Reinhart. For months, the speculation about him re-signing with Florida or going for $11 million elsewhere. Meanwhile, he himself said multiple times from the beginning of the year that he wanted to and intended to stay in Florida. He was always very adamant about it. Montour never really did. He once said he would like to stay in Florida, but he never said more than that. Reinhart said it all year long that he wasn't worried and he wanted to stay. Literally, the night of or the day after winning the Cup, he said it again! I had no doubt about him saying. But then the next thing was about the announcement being right before midnight Sunday night. I saw an interview of Zito who was asked about that. He was surprised. He said, "was that a thing?!" LOL He said it was not hammered out at the last minute. They knew. But it was a busy week! The draft, plus Reinhart had plans with his best friend's wedding right after the players' celebrations. So they sorted it out amongst everything else, AND it was submitted and they were waiting for the approval or whatever from the NHL, wherever it is that they have to submit it. Zito said he fell asleep Sunday evening while he was waiting to hear back from them. It went to the media after they sent their approval. So no, it wasn't down to the wire. But just the perfect example of how the media creates something out of nothing. It was always going to happen and they were just juggling a lot of things that week but it was sorted out with plenty of time.

No way Florida repeats. You look at dynasties and 2 years is now a dynasty. They stay competitive. If their young goalie does well maybe they get back to the finals. I think the NHL is the most competitive league of all sports.

They have a chance, if they keep the core together and can stay healthy all year. I agree that in the cap era it's VERY difficult to do, but it can still be done.

I won't say no way, but I do agree that it will be incredibly difficult, especially since it would have to be the third year in a row for the Panthers making it to the Finals at all. Zito seems to realize this as well, which is why a lot of his moves this free agency weren't so much about ensuring an ultra-high chance of winning the cup next year, but extending the window to win another cup or two as long as possible by knotting the core up nice and tight. With the moves Edmonton made in free agency, even as a Cats fan, they should easily be the favorites for the cup heading into the 2024-2025 season, but the Panthers might still be favorites to make it out of the east? It'll be plenty of competition there, though. Would be excited for a Finals rematch, though that's asking a lot.
