Currently sipping iced coffee out of a tumbler... I've just been mixing grounds (basic ground coffee from Sam's Club, I don't use the good stuff) and water in a container, letting it steep on the countertop for a day or so, and then filtering it and drinking it black over ice. It packs a nice caffeine wallop.

I have found my French Press to make pretty good cold brew, but I like to warm it up in the mornings, I still like hot coffee first thing in the morning, the cold brewing takes the bite, or edge off the flavor, and brings out more of the flavor I feel, makes for a smoother cup, and for the first cup, nothing wrong with that

I have a large French Press that I use to make a big batch to keep in the fridge for about a week, and I heat it in the mornings because I also like to drink it hot! It's really nice to have coffee concentrate ready to go in the morning, and I agree that the cold brewing makes the taste smoother.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with snobbery around cold brew that's very prevalent in the coffee online space. I know it doesn't extract the same as hot water. It's a different taste and the lack of acidity is a feature not a bug in this scenario.

I am looking forward to seeing more because I love cold brew. I use disposable cold brew socks, it hits all the marks, cheap at 200 for about 10 dollars, easy to clean, makes a great super clean brew. I am not a fan of the metal options, you always get fines. The socks get you a lot cleaner cup and work great with fine grinds. I go with a 1:4 ratio with an 24 hour time on mine so I can dilute with heavy cream, milk, or water. It really is amazing with heavy cream.

Maybe as a baseline you could do like, no cost, re-use/recycle method of cold brew. For example, i use an old calfia bottle with loose grounds inside to brew it, some regular coffee filters to filter out the grounds, and a glass juice jar to store it. A "i want to spend next to no money on this" method, if you will. As a side note i now use like a cheap pour over thing to hold the filter but ive just put the filters (raw i guess?) in cups and managed to do it lol (when wet the paper sticks to the outer rim of the cup and holds it in place. Its a pain tho and can make a big mess)

It's pretty expensive for this idea, but the container, the carafe and the strainer for the coffee could work just as a standard cold brew apparatus. Just steep the coffee in the carafe overnight, and do like normal. But when you could probably do that with another option? Perhaps not. I'm not usually a fan of muddy coffee.

Someone just gave me an instant cold brewer last week. I find it perfectly fine for a quick 20 minute “brew”. I don’t get any grounds but you do get the coffee powder that will sit on the bottom after a few minutes. I’m starting to experiment with letting the pot and grounds sit overnight before spinning. Also spinning first and leaving the grounds in overnight with maybe a second spin.

By far my favorite way to drink cold coffee is flash chilled pour over. I used to be into cold brew but got tired of the stale/cardboard taste it imparts. I used to brew pour over onto ice but always found that a bit too weak, even adjusting the proportions to account for the ice I found the coffee got too weak by the time it was adequately chilled. Then I came across Tim Wendelboe's method and I've never gone back. I do a variation on his method which is to brew onto a little ice to bring the temp down immediately then put the brew into the fridge to let it cool down further. That way you get the flavor saving aspect of immediately chilling it without watering down your pour over too much, it's perfect!

I like testing out every cold brew recipe, but I always fall back to my Takeya cold brew pitcher. The Sowden Softbrew pitcher can also make nice cold brew. Perfect rapid cold brew can be achieved with an ultrasonic cleaning machine, so long as your brewing pitcher or french press can fit in it. The Instant rapid cold brewer is a less intense ultrasonic cleaning machine but for like triple the price.

I use something I found called a Rumble Jar, put it in the fridge overnight in a mason jar, and either strain that out and let everything settle to the bottom, or put it through a cotton strainer. It's the same kind of strainer I use for thai iced tea. Never have a problem with sediment, it's incredibly simple, and I don't have a machine taking up space. Before I would just soak the grounds in the water bare and strain through the cotton strainer, but the Rumble Jar makes it much nicer to deal with.

For me: parts are a one-gallon pitcher (typical Rubbermaid), a nut milk bag, and a large plastic bag clip. I put two cups of ground coffee (pre-ground works fine, but coarse ground cleans up easier) in the nut milk bag (giving it a quick cold water rinse), then closing the top with the bag clip, dropping it the pitcher and filling it with water (temperature is pretty irrelevant). The put into the refrigerator for 8-24 hours. Easy peasy, and ridiculously cheap.

I do cold brew when I can't find any affordable natural ethiopian in season. My two method for cold brew, buy any discounted bag of coffee (stumptown, Verve, etc), Wholefoods/Sprout etc always have them, and just grind it up toss it into a toddy with a paper filter with the pad filter. Other method, is toss some 30grams grounds in a 16oz wide mouth mason jar fill it near to the top, and use the vacuum adapter to pull out the air 18 hours, toss it thru a metal filter like the Espro Bloom which I find is the best metal filter for filtering out fines, and much easier to clean out. If necessary you can toss the end product thru an aeropress, to filter more fines out, other gravity paper filter might stall, but aeropress add a little pressure usually get things out pretty quickly, you can double up the paper if you want it extra clean.

I make my cold brew on the counter. I use a homemade coffe sack. Made from flour sack material and put a draw string in it. I put 1 1/2 cups ground coffee from store bought coffee. I have currently 3 brands I preffer. I place the sack in a 2 quart container and fill with 6 cups of water. To prevent grounds from. Floating out of sack the draw string is used to tie the sack. I leave the container on my counter for 12 hours, but usually it goes till 18 hours. After its finished I strain it with another flour sack cloth doubled and there is little or no slug from the bottom. I call it slug its fine particulars of coffee. Then it goes in the fridge. When I make a cup I use a 24 ounce cup using about 1 1/2 inches worth of creamer, then fill to 3/4 full of coffee and the rest plain cold water. I found this method I do makes a stronger coffee so adding water smooths out the taste. I've been using coffee sacks for about 2 years now. I originally made them with unbleached muslin, after awhile the taste was off. Now I use flour sack towels made coffee sacks with draw string and a double layer for straining. You only need to wash them in warm water no soap as soap alters the taste of coffee. If needed you can boil them to further clean them. Its all down by hand. Small apartment kitchen required a great way to enjoy cold brew . But I like your candor on the cold brew machine , I originally was thinking about it.

The only way to fast infuse is with heat and/or pressure/vaccuum. If you want a relatively easy and cheap way to make quick cold brew, get a whipped cream dispenser and nitrous canisters. Stir coffee grounds and water, charge with nitrous, wait at least 3 minutes, Gently squeeze the handle to slowly discharge the pressure (over 10-20 seconds or so, so you don't make a mess, but put the dispenser upright in the sink, with a cup over the nozzle to catch any splatters just in case). Take the lid off and filter through your paper or metal mesh coffee filter of choice (a cheap slow cold brewer would work well for this, but you can use your drip coffee machine or whatever else you have).

Just wanted to say, I just bought one of these and I really didn’t like the mouth feel. My solution, don’t swirl it, slowly pour the “cold brew” into my Chemex carafe with ice in it. This leaves most of the fine grind residue at the bottom of the brew pot. Then slowly pour the Chemex carafe into my go cup for cold coffee when I don’t want a hot cup. Gets rid of most of the mouth feel. I tried filtering it, and the residue is so fine, it takes forever to filter.

Today's Amazon price is $59. Still, it amuses me, how a trend that started out as the coffee equivalent of sun-tea, is becoming more high tech, mainly because of today's "I need it now!" culture. Before, you just needed a big jar and cheesecloth or a filter bag to make cold brew. I'll admit, my first cold brewer was Bodum's version, basically a cheap plastic french press. And I started all my coffee research, trying to figure out how to make a good cup of coffee with out relying on a machine taking up counterspace while overcooking my coffee all day long. Fast forward to today, I have an electric kettle on the counter and cabinet of various Pour-over drippers, french presses, cold brew makers, an AeroPress and accessories. I use quite a few of them for different situations. Some I just like to display, have a different feature or couldn't resist the deal at Goodwill. Weather turned nice recently so I'm experimenting around with cold brew or iced coffees. Otherwise, I'd be trying out a red moka pot I got for $5 from Goodwill.

I have a suspicion, just based on the color, that the caffeine extraction is rather low. Closer to a regular iced coffee at best? That would be disappointing, at least for me. I like getting an intense, highly-caffeinated concentrate that I then dilute with milk, ice, and syrup.

Could you test out a coffee drink? It’s called Frosted Coffee Hawaii. 2 cups strong, cold coffee, 1 cup chilled pineapple juice, and 1 pint soft coffee ice cream. Blend thoroughly until smooth and pour into tall glasses.

Hmm... Just bought this one with the same sale you did, wish I had seen this video first, haha. But I'm still eager to try it and will invest in some filter too. I'm new here, but will be subscribing! Very interested in this series you're doing!

I just bought this brewer recently and brewed my first batch same as you did for 20 minutes. It seemed smooth enough in flavor but a bit week in taste. There is another brewing option in the manual where you brew it only five minutes and then you put the container in the refrigerator with grounds still in the container to complete the brewing process. I wonder if that might yield a richer, more full-bodied flavor. I haven’t tried that yet. I also purchased mine on sale for $50 and would agree that it seems well made.

I have this same brewer. Beware stopped working after 5 months of use.😢

@@lorithomas3129 I returned it. The cold brew was cloudy. I’m surprised it stopped working so quickly given it doesn’t seem like there is that much that could go wrong. Hopefully you were able to get it replaced under warranty.

Judging by the colour of the coffee, or lack thereof, I will stick with my current old school method. They have an Instant Cold Brew on special at Walmart so I thought I'd do some research, thanks for the video :-)

How is the caffine content of this? I would be concerned about getting initial coffee notes but ending up with something unleaded.

Please try out the coffee gator cold brew maker, always wondered how to get the precise caffeine content or at least a range from a cold brew coffee maker, I always have the problem of not having enough caffeine or having too much in a single cup

Live your videos and your energy! Have you tried the Vinci cold brew maker yet? I'm wondering how this one compares. I had the Vinci and it did make pretty bold, strong coffee, but it stopped working after a bit. I did just order this one, but the cold brew you made does look a bit light (I like dark and bold!). I did read that you can leave it for 30 minutes and also put a little bit more coffee in. The Vinci did not leave many grounds in the brew, but I wouldn't mind running it through a filter if I needed to.

Surely the baseline for this series is just a container (Tupperware/jar) & a filter of some sort? Just the bog standard, cheap & cheerful way to make cold brew at home.

Use a $30 magnetic stir plater then filter it. Much cheaper and you can filter it so it isn't so grainy.

Haven’t watched the whole video, but I’ve been curious about this instant pot cold brew maker. I trust Morgan’s opinion completely so she will help me decide if it’s worth it or if I should stick to the reg 24 hour way

I don''t even have a dedicated like, cold brew maker or jar or whatever. I just use an old tea infuser, then dig around and find a jar big enough to fit it and let it steep for like a day or so. Good enough for me lmao. Depending on how well I managed to wash the jar, the cold brew may or may not end up smelling of indian spices

I got this on Prime Day for $40 & it just came in. Currently making my first batch with a blend of maxwell house & bustelo (aahh adhd😂). At first, i was confused why it would ramp up, stop, wait ramp up again. But now i know it wasn't just me. I know I could have used a soaking overnight method but I'm a teacher so, i want to make my 2 pitchers for the week to be able to just pour and go, and only need to make it on weekends. my travel mugs are all 16-24oz so I know I'll need to make more during the week😂

It’s interesting that the Instant brewer produced acceptable coffee while the similar Dorothy you reviewed a couple of months back did not. Both used room temperature water. Both stirred the grounds more or less continuously. The Dorothy only extracted for 15 minutes while the Instant ran for 20. I don’t know how the grind sizes, ratios and roast levels compare between the two reviews.

I have yet to master the cold brew. I can only make them in a couple of small batches. Despite having the same ration, for some reason one always comes out different than the other. However, I have been able to brew in a way that doesn't have a woody taste.
