Please note that police officer carry 25-30 pounds of gear on their body every day ( my husb has been an officer for 29 years). The bullet proof vest also has a metal "shock plate" over the heart to prevent a fatal stab, so that's extra weight... then the gear belt has 10-15 items including their gun... so it adds up! I'm always impressed by police officers athletic abilities! 😊💙👍🏼🚓

@The Realist no there are a few like that. That isnt at all the norm. Most cops are great upstanding citizens that want to protect and serve. The ones that make the news are the bad ones. If they were mostly bad you'd see terrible shit constantly on the news. Instead its 10 or 12 times a year. Definitely not "most" considering there are just under 700k police officers in the US.

@The Realist Considering the footage you speak of makes up less than 1% of footage out there, it makes your point moot. Is it due to you living such a sheltered life that prevents you from seeing the bigger picture, or is this simply a limitation by virtue of your education hardly exceeding pre-school?

I gotta tell ya the best story I ever heard from my dad. One dumb ass hot ass Las Vegas day he got caught up on a traffic warrant, and had some weed in his pocket (back when it was still a prison sentence) and while he was face down on the hood of a metro cop car with his hands cuffed behind his back surrounded by 6 officers his brain somehow made him say, “you know I gotta try and run right” All the cops stopped their chit chat and looked at him and said, “okay, sure” My fucking dad said “okay you ready??” “Yeah!” “Okay here I go!!” And they fucking gave him a head start, and he said all he heard was keys jingling getting closer and closer until he was face on the asphalt with a fresh broken collarbone to remember it for the next 50 years.

@almightyshippo1197
@almightyshippo1197 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I believe the laws in many states of the US declare that you are operating a motor vehicle as soon as the keys are in the ignition. Because the car is running, even if they are stopped, it still counts as using a phone while operating a vehicle. I think there is an exclusion for if they pull over to the side of the road, because that is 'standing', or parking. They probably just got a verbal warning though.

Because you are controlling a 2000 pound machine filled with flammable liquids and it's not unreasonable to expect others to be at full attention when they are being given that amount of responsibility. There is no benefit to anyone if you text at a red light. There IS benefit if you pay attention. What if you are driving with three passengers texting at a red light and a runaway car ends up rear ending you and now three of your friends are gone when had you been paying attention you would have seen it coming and been able to move? And now we're jumping into hypotheticals, which is another reason to just not allow texting and driving at all.
@engineer0239
@engineer0239 3 жыл бұрын
@@johns1625 texting and driving is certainly a bad thing, but if you are in a standstill (like neutral gear and handbrake), you are not driving nor operating your car. You are just sitting in it. It is not your fault if someone crashes into you and, at least with my car, I think I would not even be able to accelerate fast enough to dodge it.
@warailawildrunner5300
@warailawildrunner5300 3 жыл бұрын
@@engineer0239 It's illegal full stop in the UK. Mainly because you're still on a public road. If you were in a car park with the engine off and out of the way, fine text away. If you're on a public road, the phone stays in your bag / glove compartment. The temptation to continue texting while actually moving is too much and people have caused accidents because they thought texting while at a red light was ok.

I have to say that when I am on the road no matter what i am driving I try and steer clear of anyone driving a "Rice Burner" or "Crotch Rocket". They tend to think they own the road and can drive anyway they want especially when riding in a pack. I remember one day rolling down a highway at 60 MPH and I see a little pinpoint of light. It was getting larger and larger. If I hadn't changed lanes he would have landed on top of my Tonneau cover and over the cab of my 2002 Ford Ranger and splattered all over the road.. His friends started chasing me. My top speed was 94 MPH. I finally found a cop. He saw them swarming me and held them off. I told him what happened and then they claimed I cut him off. The cop asked them where they were heading and then told them to get out of there. I waited till they left. The cop then called in to HQ and put out a warning on the group.
