jesus. The project im working on in SRGB vs ACES ... its like a whole other level. Just changing the color space is far beyond what I would have been able to do in post

ACEScg is awesome, but when I tried to export AOV's, my whole scene is washed out. To fix that I need to play with a gamma parameters in AE. Is there a solid solution for that, instead of this workflow?

Super helpful. Can you use this ACES workflow if you want to render out separate passes, like you would with a linear work flow, for maximum flexibility in post? Or does this option simply only allow for a single baked image?
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
to my knowledge, if you use the AcesCG color space mentioned at 5:40 - that is the workflow that would allow you to work in a true aces linear workflow. I've never used it personally - but it's worth exploring.

dude i only get a black render when i set my color management to ocio any reason why that's happening?
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
I've seen this comment a few times. I think the main thing to do is just to be absolutely sure that you've got it set in BOTH places, the camera imager and the color management in Octane. Also be SURE you haven't moved the Aces OCIO file or you'll have to go back into color management and point octane to the file once again. Aside from those things, following the specifics in the video should get you there pretty simply. It's possible there's some variation in Octane versions as to what works and what doesn't but if you have the latest version this should work no issue! Hope you're able to get it fixed!
@MattObviously2 жыл бұрын
@@jbrashfx done this, still rendering with a black screen, not sure what the issue could be. :/
@sharonpalkowetz2 жыл бұрын
@@MattObviously I'm getting the same thing! I've made sure i followed the instructions. As soon as I click over to OCIO in the renderview it all goes to black. I haven't tried it in 26. I'm working in 2023. I thought maybe the project settings color management might be off, but i've tried with both the default config that comes with C4D AND setting it to the Aces 1.2. I even tried this on a very new basic setup file. Same thing. Frustrating as hell!
@sharonpalkowetz2 жыл бұрын
OH i figured it out!! Somehow my camera exposure was set very low. I cranked it back to 1 and it came out allright! Problem solved.
@p1nkyTF22 жыл бұрын
there is a check box called "ACES tone mapping" in the settings now, does it mean that there is no need for all of this and that we have ACES OCIO workflow by default now?
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had a chance to look into what that setting entails. It was just released in a new update, but all of the settings that make the method in this video work are ALSO still there, so I’m confused also haha.
@p1nkyTF22 жыл бұрын
@@jbrashfx Let me know what are your thoughts on that when you have a chance to do it, it feels that it gives the exact same look, but I didn`t test it with every scene possible
@plvg_design2 жыл бұрын
Just a headsd up, if your using an ACES workflow into say nuke, you want to use 2065-1 vs cg - octane is a spectral renderer and using 2065-1 preserves color better. cg is design for rgb renderers.
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
Ahh thanks for the heads up! ❤️ I think this video has largely become irrelevant anyways with the recent release of Octane with built in aces tone mapping... Most people i've found aren't using a real aces workflow, they just want the tones like I showed here haha.

please do redshift
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
Redshift actually uses an ACES conversation by DEFAULT! No need to use this process! :D redshift gives you the best image you can get out of box imo
@hassanxelamin2 жыл бұрын
@@jbrashfx do you think it's possible to watch an octane tutorial and apply it to redshift? im beginning with c4d and just getting the hang of redshift but there are so many cool course but they use octane.
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
@@hassanxelamin it is possible yes! It’s helpful obviously if you know both of them & know how to translate some of the language over but it’s possible. There’s an OUTSTANDING course for redshift called “Redshift 3D Rendering for Games and VFX.” It’s not free but it helped me learn a ton, so it’s well worth it

@@jbrashfx I'm using Arnold and I've been doing the whole manual process (following some old tutorials). But now I realized that Arnols works in ACES by default as well, no need for manual tweeking.

Appreciate the video, but I genuinely cannot tell the difference between renders
@jbrashfx2 жыл бұрын
Gonna be a person to person thing! In my eyes the ACES OCIO smooths the highlights of an image immensely, definitely a small thing but helps a lot IMO
