@@RS-xq4hf You could turn off the electricity? We can't.
@LaughingInTiny3 жыл бұрын
@@653j521 All apartment buildings are able to turn off your electrical for JUST your apartment. If your fusebox isn't IN your apartment then it will be accessible by the superintendent. You might need to coordinate a time with them to flick your switch for an hour but it only takes ten minutes to switch out a light so that's plenty of time. It's actually SUPER easy to do. Just find a youtube tutorial and you'll see how easy it is. And yes, just hold on to the original and put it back before moving out.
@LaughingInTiny3 жыл бұрын
MOST of these ideas are renter friendly, just with a few tweaks or thought. I've applied all of these to rentals over the years. The tricky part can be where to put the stuff you are taking out. If you discuss with the landlord about where to store things they may be willing to put things in a basement or furnace room. Any time you upgrade a rental they rarely argue UNLESS it's a strata. Stratas are just evil period.

Personally ...I decorate my home to make me and my family happy. We live here,we deserve to be in a space we love to be in. We still keep a general vibe in the main living areas but we most definitely have a mid century eclectic style. People who come over like it as well because they say it's comfortable. I've even heard that it reminds someone of being t their grandparents yet modern and stylish. We mix old with new with a dash of curiosities.

How design cycles is fascinating. I grew up, as many of my generation, with the living room we called the "museum room" in the front and no one was allowed to live in it. Mom guarded that room with all of her might. It was always impeccable. As I grew up, married and had children, the "great room" was all the rage...knock down the living room wall and have one big room...Now, the living room is back...LoL!! Love your channel because you make style accessible by explaining the principles behind it. Kiva you rock!

Yes, my grandma had an off limits living room and so did my mom. I do not like open concept although my house is slightly open concept with walls. I wanted a separate living and family rooms when I was looking for my house.

We bought a really outdated but structurally sound 120 year old farmhouse. We updated the light fixtures and ceiling fans before we moved in. We also painted all the walls in shades of neutral gray to bring more cohesiveness to the space. We couldn't afford to overhaul the kitchen right off the bat so we painted the cupboards and put up a contact paper (vinyl) backsplash to cover up the untreated beadboard. White trim. Ivory drapes to the floor. Big unique art. Storage pieces with doors and drawers to stash all the clutter. Rugs big enough for the space.

A former neighbour of mine who is a builder and does renovationprojects told me that one way to trick the eye to an airy feel is to have the paint from the ceiling reach down at the walls a decimeter or two. This might be pointless if you already have high ceiling but it makes some difference if you live in a standard apartment or a parcelhouse built with energyconsumption costs in thought, like the 70s "parcelhouse" or afterwards where the room tend to have a boxy feel.

Great video! I totally agree with having manicured rooms. I live in a center hall colonial house: formal living room on one side and formal dining room on the other. Some people believe that I am wasting space since these rooms are not used that often. However, I love them. They are carefully decorated with things that I love and they are beautiful. You are right, these are the rooms that people see when they enter my home and I always receive compliments. I have a comfy family room on the back of the house and I have an eat-in (do people still use that term?) kitchen that we live in. I just love knowing that I have these other beautiful spaces to entertain guests. It works for me. Everyone has to find what fits their lifestyle and gives them pleasure.
