I miss the good old 00's hardtechno. When preparing livesets in this specific genre, I have a field day of finding floorcrackers and stuff. Well, on to the old stuff then :)

Me too man. Funny thing is, I never really experienced the oldschool hardtechno movement because I'm in my mid 20's. I only started listening to hardtechno in 2018 however the old stuff just sounds better, it actually has some pattern complexity to it and not the modern techno and hardtechno which just sounds like a producer wasting 80% of his production time on mastering his kick and making it sound as clean as possible. At the end of the day, that kind of "dirty" uncleanly mastered drum patterns are what initially defined hardtechno.

@@cartermachiavelli Wow, a reply to my four year old reaction. Awesome. Do make sure to not mistake hardtechno with schranz. They're two different styles. Schranz is fine from time to time, but it's a bit too much of the same (just like with Dutch/German Hardstyle, I do like Raw Hardstyle, but not the mainstream sh*t).

Idk what most DJs call Schranz but actually it's kind of like techstep is compared to neurofunk in the DnB scene. Original Schranz (like the stuff Chris Liebing produced in the late 90s) was very technical, a little harder on the kicks and hardtechno developed from that. Categorizing them into the both is not really that black and white from my experience but rather sort of a spectrum. I assume what you and many other categorize as Schranz are those tracks produced in a deliberately dirty manner (old Felix Kroecher and Boris S are characteristic examples) and that was sort of the root beginning of the HT scene in Germany back in the early 00s. What I actually meant with my comment above however is the post-covid development of hardtechno or better called "what the TikTok kids call hardtechno". It's basically just like techno nowadays (only kicks and hi-hat really noticable) and it lost all its substance.

@@cartermachiavelli Ah, okay. I don't watch TikTok, I'm in my 40s (started DJ'ing Techno in 1998) and I don't need TikTok in my life. Had enough of TikTak in my toddler time haha. What I mean by Schranz, is the brutal form of Techno such as, you named it, Felix Krocher, Boris S, but also Jan Fleck, modern day Klangkunstler, Victor Strogonov, Sandy Warez, O.B.I. and Pet Duo to name a few. Although Victor Strogonov is a former neonazi, which I really, really don't like, I have met him a few times when he turned his back to that creepy sh*t. I performed a few times in the Cinema Club in Kiev, where I had a meet and greet (not formally) with Victor and he showed me a few tricks the CDJ-2000 manual doesn't tell you. Neither does the CDJ-3000 one. He also told me NOT to rely on Pioneer DJ and look further than the club standard stuff. Resulting 2024 in me using nothing close to Pioneer DJ, but returning back to my old brand, Roland.
