Institute Lecture delivered by Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala on 9th Feb 2016 at SAC, IIT Madras:
Title: "How does India get 50% of its electrical power from solar by 2030? Can we convert our vehicles to Electrical Vehicles by then!"
Preamble: In early December 2015, when Chennai had one of its worst floods and IITM had no power for 75 hours, one home continued to have power. While 1 MW solar plant in IIT gave zero power, this home was powered by only 125W and used DC power line. It shows the power of decentralized roof-top power and what it can do for India with right innovations and right technology. We have made a beginning towards India getting 50% of its electrical power from solar by 2030. Can India convert most of its vehicles to electrical vehicles by then??
