I have watched this video a million times it seems over the years. I found it when I was fighting for my life in a nursing facility for a year and trying to wean off all the pain medication and also overcome addiction in that setting. Alone by myself in a room every night. For a year. Over and over this saved my life. Domestic violence for 4 years. Over and over it saved my life. Now listening after getting evicted from a***e injuries worsened. Still always there ❤

My ex showed me this one of the first days we got together. I didn't think much of it at the time. Sooner or later, we broke up, and honestly my life was shattered. Eventually I moved on, until tonight, I had gotten a knew phone, and had to download everything back onto it. Including snapchat. I was looking through my snaps history and found a bunch of pictures of her and us while we were still together. Completely slipped my mind at the time of our breakup to delete them. So it honestly just made me break down in tears. In fact, I'm still sort of crying at the moment. So I deleted all of them, and went to youtube to my liked videos to listen to some jams. I played 1 song in my liked videos playlist, and when it was over, I saw that this one was next. So I played it. I don't know how long it will take to get over it, but this helped me a lot. Even when I didn't want to listen to it. I still did. This is a message, to anyone, who's having a bad day. Chin up, soldier. These days are not forever. Everyone has them. No one wants them either. You have got to keep going. No matter what. Its never okay to give up. So don't. Do it for me, yourself, and everything else that is in your lifetime. And when you have one of these moments, just look for some Instructions for a bad day. 🤞❤💖

At the age of 14 I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder. There were plenty of times I wanted to end it, I hurt myself too many times to count. I could never see a future for myself. I always thought one day, I would finally have the guts to end it. Today, I am 21 years old, I just landed a government job, and I am happier than I have ever been. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to Shane over the years. He’s one of the reasons I am who I am today. I came back to listen to this today, to remind me of where I’ve been.. and how far I’ve come. To anyone struggling, hold on! It gets better. Take it one day at a time, because your work here is definitely not done.

Possibly because of the music--for some of us it's hard to pick his voice out of the accompanying music and it hurts the impact of the poem. I have this problem with a lot of his tracks; his voice and his poetry are amazing and I hate that so many of his videos are mixed in such a way that people with a very common hearing problem basically can't enjoy them as much. (I didn't "dislike" the video but thought I'd try to explain a potential reason someone would.)

You have a beautiful name Gabby. I'm not sure if you know but I know someone who has taught me how to love in such a way that heals my own wounds while comforting others. This love is powerful and when I put it to practice it even strengthens and encourages me to love more. This person I know is Jesus. I'm not sure if you know or possibly even care but your names translates to Woman of God. Personally I wasn't really planning on writing a comment, but when I saw yours I felt happy. Not because you have troubles or were sad or hurt, but instead because there's joy and happiness and such sincere and warm and FREE love to be given in this world. Some from very special people, some from strangers and some from yourself. I want you to know that the most touching, fulfilling love I personally have ever felt was from God and the story of his son Jesus, and how God created us and how Jesus died for each and everyone of us, including you Gabby. The love that God has for us and the love that Jesus demonstrated for each and every one of us has shown countless others how to love, and has changed lives. It's no lie that the absence of love and friendship and togetherness is damaging to say the least. I'll tell you what is a lie though. A lie is saying that someone, anyone, is not worthy of love, and cannot obtain or feel it. In my eyes, others' eyes, and most importantly in God's eyes you are beyond worthy of love, and so incredibly precious and beautiful and adored that someone would die for you, only for you and for the you that you are. You don't need to change. Whether or not you believe in your namesake, I think you should know that even when you cannot see it, there is love for you. Even if you cannot feel the love in this moment you DO have the worthiness to feel it, and when the world is unfair and refuses you one ounce of love, I urge you to look to God, for He has love to fill the world a million times over and even more forever and that love is for you. In the Bible, in the book of John chapter 3 verse 16, it states ,"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." Best of wishes to you Gabby. ♡

For anyone reading the comments: Remember that there is someone that loves you. Maybe in your family, maybe the girl that sits behind you in math. There is someone out there that cares for you. That every night when they go to bed, their thoughts are on you. How you are doing, what you're feeling. Never forget that where there is darkness, there has to be light. "Every nightmare has a beginning, but every bad day has an end." You will forever be be loved and inspiring to those around you. Whether you see them or not, there are those who look up to you, not just for your strengths, but for your weakness. That you have weaknesses but you continue through each day, even with all the bad. You are strong. Understand that you are powerful and every step you take is one more step towards who you are meant to be. Be in awe of who you are and what you posses. Feel it in your veins, the power, the strength, that keeps you going. It doesn't matter who you are, what you've done, what you've said, I don't care. You are an inspiration. Remember that the people around you that you think don't understand: we do. We see the pain you go through, the sighs you heave, the burden you carry. We have it too. And yeah, maybe not as bad, nor as apparent, but it's there. So don't think you are alone. You are never alone. Every dark night spent laying awake with too many thoughts to think and too many feelings to feel. We've all been there. So you aren't alone. - Someone Who Cares

Ayssa Tracy i don’t think he’s saying to let go of your pain, just let go of the feeling that you have no place left in the world, let go of the bad thoughts that make you feel sad and angry. it’s okay to have felt pain and gone through hurt and you don’t have to pretend it didn’t happen but often it helps letting go of the anger, hurt and sadness and just feel okay despite the circumstances.

Everybody’s telling their stories in the comments. So I guess I will too. Like 5 years ago my abusive ex got me into this guy’s poetry. I think it started with When I was a Kid or whatever that one is called. He never showed me this one but I stuck with the rest. He’d constantly leave and be gone for weeks, sometimes even months, so I eventually left him. The years after were hard. They still are sometimes. I look at all the flaws I have and critique myself and overthink and have awful self esteem because of him. And sometimes I blame myself because of how naive I was but I just gotta remind myself that I didn’t ask to be hurt. But anyway. Maybe a few months or so after he left I got really upset and felt like I didn’t deserve to live. You all know how that story goes so I won’t finish it. Within a week of that a newer (at the time) friend showed me this song cause I said I was into this guy’s poetry. And it just helps. I’ve started listening to it whenever things get really bad and when my friends are upset I’ll quote and send it. It just helps to be reminded that if you’re at rock bottom. The only way is up. And that you don’t have to take that journey alone. Life is a lot better now, although I still struggle with bad thoughts, but I’m not entirely sure I’d even be here without the reminders in videos like this. To anybody seeing this tonight, starting on their journey of getting better. You’re never alone and yeah, not every day is gonna be good and it won’t be easy but, living will be worth it, I promise. You’re going to get better.

All my friends have abandoned me. I went away from university for summer and when I came back all my friends had replaced me with my flatmate. I wondered why after pretty much talking to them 24/7 for almost a year, none of them tried to contact me all summer and on the occasion I did, it barely got past 3 messages before they stopped replying. I come back to uni and find that she's been spending their whole time there and they simply 'forgot' about me. They blamed me for not trying hard enough to talk to them. They said, despite spending all their time on messenger, that they simply didn't see my messages, or looked and then for forgot to reply. For days. For weeks. For months. They forgot. Now I'm left with one friend. One friend who I've known for barely a month and has worse anxiety than me. One friend who lives with all the people who abandoned me. I hear what they say,but they all started distancing themselves when they learned about my past. I have a lot of baggage that I guess they couldn't handle. Not that I was asking them to. They wanted to know. Not that I should have told them, when all it's done is drive them away. Now they all hang out together and 'forget' to invite me. Now I sit alone contemplating why I'm still alive.
