M C yeah but in such a way that he makes manoeuvres that he obvious isn’t ready for, and everyone knows if in trouble just bang out, ie the frog or humping the beach ball. Then u get stable. I started on holiday jumps but then went to full kit Bergen rifle n radio. Even if u left a pocket open on your backpack that could seriously effect your dive plus at altitude if your teeth are not perfect n have air in due to fillings I’ve seen some grisly scenarios. The tooth just explodes. But that’s military jumping n not the low levels no oxygen civilian jumps with not additional kit. If you can do the above then you truly are a skydiver

I think he might have tried to appear confident there, after his "flips", LOL, but I can't picture him being confident, nor should he. Putting his feet together and grabbing his knees and pointing his toes! Great for the diving board, but you aren't trying for a no splash up there. Well...maybe you are. Seeing his reflexes when he lost stability made me cringe. The impulse to bend your body towards the ground should have been broken before this.

That's why you have instructors! I don't have a lot of jumps (B-license), but it seems that although the student is (overly) confident in his ability to maneuver around, his technique to achieve stability apparently is based on flailing around until he accidentally is on his belly and stable. When he screwed up the pull (by dropping a knee), he went into "flail" mode hoping he would end up on his belly. Lucky for him, the instructor seemed to see this coming and was close by. No hesitation to move right in and fix things. Good training video to show the value of smooth and controlled movement and body position.

During the aff you are supposed to do jumps where -you do some flips to mess up your stability and then fix it -track -turns and maybe barrel rolls and these are the things he did and I think he did them well enough (I am not an instructor so there could actually be some failing mistakes but it doesn’t matter too much for my comment because he either way failed because he didn’t pull) The only (but definitely grave) mistake in my eyes was that he didn’t pull because he got scared as he lost his balance (probably he was too tense from the adrenaline of trying to get all the exercises in one jump). However he did try to pull and probably at the correct altitude since he tried to pull at 0:59 and we can see the instructor’s altimeter shows an altitude of about 1600-1700 ft at 1:17 which means he probably tried to pull at around 4500 ft which is an acceptable altitude during the couple last aff jumps. In conclusion I think the student did fine for the most part but failed during the most important part so the jump is obviously a fail and he has to get a good debrief about the 3 most important rules: 1) PULL 2) PULL AT CORRECT ALTITUDE 3) PULL STABLE And he should always remember from now on that there is a clear hierarchy and that he shouldn’t forget rules 1 and 2 for rule 3. Also kudos to the instructor for a perfect job, he definitely deserves a lot of beers after that 😉 Blue skies and safe landings motherfuckers 🤪🤙

Why? He's a student in AFF progression. If anything it's the intructor's fault for letting him on that level (I'm guessing level 6 here) too soon. I'm thinking you're not aware this is as student jump, any skydiver would know this. While I did my AFF progression with only 1 jump for each level and never encountering difficulties most people take about 9 to 10 jumps for the total 7 levels progression. So he fucked up a level, big deal. Instructor also shouldn't have chased him, that's not procedure at all (although some DZ leave it at the personal decision of the instructor but it is frowned upon). Let the AAD handle it. My bet is, you're here commenting on this without actually being a skydiver yourself and I doubt you're deliberatly being sarcastic.
@mikaelgaiason6885 жыл бұрын
@lee hamlin Yeah, my first though was let the AAD handle it, but if the instructor here was the same one that signed off on his previous jumps it's not really surprising he decided to pull for him. I'm not even sure I would have worried about flipping him before throwing his pc for him, but I'm also not an instructor. Stuff like this is why I honestly felt safer going the static line route.

Wow. I am wondering of his previous trainers skimped a little on the most basic skills. Then again I recall my 5th dive where I simply couldn't get myself to relax and instead was flattening myself out in frustration. The result? A very dangerous flat spin - so fast I couldn't see the instructor and too dangerous for him to stop me. But I kept my cool enough to keep checking my altitude and waved him off a bit early so he could put distance. I ended up with my twisting, but just patiently waited until everything fixed itself. His video showed me what I did wrong. Then much later I had to do a recurrency jump. By this time I had much better skills. The drop zone coordinator was willing to let me jump without the recurrency jump - but I said no. The rules were made for a reason and he'd never forgive himself if I did something stupid. Turns out that was a good attitude. I NEVER checked my altimeter, instead mimicking the trainer in student mode. I didn't see him telling me to pull. He finally broke off to pull his own chute. When I looked he was gone. I rolled on my back and saw him above me ... had an "Oh S*** moment and looked .. and immediately got righted and pulled. Yes, I got chewed out. But every diver is supposed to go through a ground school. Each diver is responsible for pulling their own chute - not that I am not grateful for trainers who do what the trainer in the video did. Judging by how long it took him though, I'd say my trainer were far more experienced. One had over 10k jumps. Another over 5k and so on. Even the pilot had over 10k. If you have never jumped and want to, visit the zone first. If you hear constant safety advice on the ground to other than tandem students, then you are more likely at a well run zone.

@Mike Messer, it's best to just learn indoor skydiving first. Learn how to belly fly, back fly, sit fly, head down, angle fly and transitions between those. Then go to skydiving, you can skip AFF level 1 and 2. You'll be stable when you do flips and stuff when asked to. Here's my recommendation.
@georgejacob31625 жыл бұрын
500cheers a day. Good recommendation! I always recommend doing Indoor Skydiving before doing a proper skydive especially to those people who don't like heights. Even if they decide never to do a proper skydive then at least if they do an Indoor Skydive then they will get some idea of what it's like to actually skydive. I've only done one tandem skydive so far (at the age of 45) but I did two Indoor Skydiving sessions before doing my proper skydive and I have done another one since and will do more. I like to think that my Indoor Skydives helped me in some way for my tandem skydive. I just could not do a 10,000ft skydive without doing the Indoor Skydives first! My skydives are available to view on my channel and if you watch my Indoor Skydive you will see that I'm certainly no expert myself!

My fears went away as I was getting kitted up before entering the plane and I was relaxed from take off in the plane to landing under the canopy! I kept my eyes open when leaving that plane and I enjoyed that floating feeling that you get in freefall and I walked on cloud 9 under canopy! I now wish that I had thought about doing skydiving 20+ years ago! It's BLISS! In October I flew while stood ON TOP of a 1940's Boeing Stearman bi-plane! Next up? More Indoor Skydiving and an Indoor Bungee Jump possibly! Certainly more skydives next year (15,000ft here I come!) and I already have other flights in and ON old planes already booked! Oh, by the way, my 10,000ft skydive and my wing walk were only my 8th and 9th flights EVER! Now I know why pilots and skydivers call the air 'home'!

@@georgejacob3162 OMG!!! I just came back from AirRider in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is an indoor skydiving wind tunnel. I am stable on the neutral position of back flying. I'm so happy. One quick helpful tip is to relax your hands and legs so you'll get a perfect L shape at your legs. Really helpful tip.

Wow, I mean WOW. He could have even pulled him back into the plane. I've never seen that done before. .

At 2:04 in the slow mo replay it looks like the student reached for and pulled for something with his right hand. You can see something in his hand- possible the main chute didn't deploy?

I can imagine how that talk went on the ground,lol. When I was a student. I had a few flat spins the instructors got me out of. But on 1 of those jumps I was so disoriented coming out of it. It took a few seconds to get with it. By they time I pulled I was around 3,000ft. I got a very stern talking to. Then we got back up there for another jump after my nerves had slowed a bit..

First off the guy dose not have the skill yet to fly stable, hold a heading, make simple turn 90's, & 180's and be able to stop them, or FIND THE DEPLOYMENT HANDLE...The handle is kind of a big deal, He should really work on that one for sure... He should not be with only one instructor yet, and he needs more grown training. If you where one of my students you would be grounded.........

Yeah.. doesn't look like he ran into problems and couldnt open chute. Probably just an idiot with a death wish and putting others in danger by not pulling the chute early.

This was a instructor training jump. The guy in the red is an instructor training a student instructor how to do chase and cut maneuvers

Dude pulls at 1800 feet, in the saddle by maybe 1300 and still pulls off his slider which can only mean one thing. He’s still about to swoop it in like a boss.

Man probably tought he could pull it last second

Without full context of the jump, it looked like an AFF stage 8 or 9 jump. Practice instability recovery, turns, tracks etc. So from the perspective the top of the jump looked great. Bottom half looked like some time for more practice of things perhaps. Early career skydiver, bit excited and forgot about fundamental deployment stability. Got quite low there, whew!

How could the student avoid this uncontrolled movements? Simply arching would be a solution?
