4:41 makita makes a cordless blower that has a small 1 inch diameter, high intensity nozzle, and you can adjust the amount of airflow. I use it when I repair instrument clusters and it’s awesome.

I did the digital DIM upgrade and I too purchased a used cluster off Bay. When I got it I too noticed the perspex was scratched, one of them pretty deep. I managed to remove all the scratches and the gouge with Xerapol which is a perspex polishing compound. I got it perfect after half an hour of polishing with a duster.

Looks much better! I have found that microfiber cloths of the type you used can produce tiny fibres that means they are useless for cleaning optical components such as some types of mirror and lenses. I have found that a microfiber lens cloth (the smooth type) gives a much better result in such cases. The brush you used was very much like a traditional lens brush used by photographers so I'm not surprised it worked well. I agree with your evaluation of the purpose of the sponge strips. It's possible that your instrument cluster had dust blown up from below where the protective strip is not installed, causing the dust to become trapped between the glass and the displays.

You‘re using a wrong microfiber towel to wipe off the glass. Use a >500 GSM towel, together with a detailer, otherwise you‘ll get the same scratches again quickly!

Also, a VERY thin bead of silicon caulking sealant across the bottom would permanently keep dust, spiders, etc. out!

Apparently, the glass is located differently on older V40s ? Mine is behind the grey frame that is dividing the screen in 3 parts.

My vesper kit sometimes shows wrong fuel level. For example the tank is empty ( light on) and shows a full tank. After 10' the level turns gradually to empty level. Have you ever seen this to yours?

Maybe an air blower would do the job of removing the dust. Check any video about photographic material cleaning.

Generally, Instrument "Glass" has an anti glare coating, so polishing it servers no purpose. I use Chemical Guys Inner Clean which is safe to use on Instrument clusters and Infotainment screens.

So how do you change the time with the new cluster without the small stick that was on the old cluster. I have bought the same cluster and adaptor that you have and I had vesper Volvo program It to say R Design at power up. Let me know if you would like to see a video of it and I can send it to you. Do you have a video of you installing the TFT cluster in the first place- I can’t find it? I am considering retrofitting the TFT cluster in a 2012 XC70 but unsure about whether it will work without an adapter. I have seen adaptors but the website is in Russian and I don’t speak Russian.

I switched back to original cluster and deleted the video. The TFT cluster did not work properly. I di not recommend it! Save your money for something else.

I really dislike my old cluster styling in my opinion plus mine it has a ton of dust in it and part of the display in middle of gauges is malfunctioning and rather not replace it with same boring cluster.

You can buy a used cluster and switch the to nice silver trim. It is replaceable.

volvosweden I bought a used cluster but it wouldn’t work properly, so i asked about the converter adapter that that site sells. Currently, I have the stock cluster with a stainless steel trim that I found online that accents it nicely. I just wanted to have the more modern cluster.
