"The Documentary" is the first official album by American rapper the Game. It came out on January 18, 2005, under Aftermath Entertainment, G-Unit Records, and Interscope Records. This album marks his big debut in the music industry, following his earlier independent release called "Untold Story" in 2004. After surviving a shooting in 2001, the Game decided to focus on music while recovering in the hospital. He put out a mixtape called "Q.B. 2 Compton" under his label "Get Low Recordz" in 2002, which caught the attention of Dr. Dre. This led to the Game signing with Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath Entertainment. "The Documentary" features production from top producers like Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Scott Storch, and Timbaland, and guest appearances from artists such as 50 Cent, Eminem, Nate Dogg, and Faith Evans.

Jayceon Terrell Taylor, known as the Game or simply Game, is an American rapper born in Compton, California on November 29, 1979. He started by releasing mixtapes with the help of fellow West Coast rapper JT the Bigga Figga. His first independent album, Untold Story, came out in 2004. Later, record producer Dr. Dre discovered him and signed him to Aftermath Records label. The Game became famous in 2005 with his major-label debut album The Documentary, which topped the Billboard 200 chart. His next album, Doctor's Advocate, released in 2006, also did well. The Documentary album got double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and received two Grammy nominations for its single "Hate It or Love It" featuring 50 Cent.
