Well.I am type 2 diabetic I was on keto for almost 6 months but as soon I ate some carbs my blood gulucose spiked so basically it didn't cure anything it just masked and showed some good results for short term.what I am looking for is increased insulin sensitivity not just bringing it down temporarily by eating low or not carbs.i am giving a low fat diet a shot now its day 5.today fasting glucose was 5.9 even though I carbs all day yesterday to be specific rice ,chickpeas and some pinto beans,salads.want to see how it works out in long term.one thing for sure its much easier to follow and extremely cheap compared to keto.e.g bought 3kg chickpeas dried for only £6 from amazon.should last for month at least .where on keto used to spend that much on just one meal.its good because rest of money can spend on healthy greens and fruits.

I did a ketogenic diet for 2 years (No cheating whatsoever, no more than 25 grams of carbs a day) because I had a horrible case of reactive hypoglycemia / post-prandial syndrome (From insulin resistance). It worked in the beginning but by the end of the 2 year mark it made my insulin resistance and hypoglycemia out of control...I would literally take one bite of meat and be full blown hypo within a 30 seconds. As a last resort I tried a high-carb low-fat plant based diet like Cyrus is showing here (I had to stick to just fruits and veggies at first though because starches would make me hypo) and I was having no more hypos after 4 days, that was 10 months ago and my reactive hypoglycemia is completely gone. I'm also becoming more insulin sensitive from this diet because now I can eat potatoes and I'm totally fine, no adrenaline release at all. If you're trying to decide weather to go keto or high-carb low-fat plant based because you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, or just for health in general, take it from someone who's been on both sides of the fence...The high-carb low-fat plant based diet is what works! The dirty little secret that the low-carb keto "experts" won't tell you is that low-carb diets actually increase insulin resistance over time because your adrenaline is higher than your insulin, and you body becomes physiologically insulin resistant as a defense mechanism. I had to learn the hard way, but thanks to Dr. Morse and Cyrus and Robbie I have my life back.

This is good to know. Thanks. I have also been following the Keto diet. High Fat and Protein, low carbs. I have lost weight but fat blocking the receptors makes sense. So just like taking Metformin & Glyburide for 20 years or so, the Keto diet would also make the condition worse in the end. I'm still going to do the intermittent fasting. It's one way to reduce the fat blocking the insulin receptors.

I spent 8 years trying to reverse my diabetes on low carb high fat. In the end, my insulin resistance became so bad no amount of insulin would get my blood sugar down to anywhere near normal. It was very frightening. I realised increasing the insulin was not the answer. Low carb had only ever ‘managed’ the diabetes by keeping the sugar intake to a minimum. I knew I needed to do something radical. Within 6 weeks on high carb low fat I had to drop my insulin requirement to less than half (50+ units to 20-25 units per day). In just 2 months I have lost a stone in weight. My energy levels, which have always been very low, are slowly starting to improve. I am excited to see what happens over time......

I met Dr. Cyrus Khambatta at a wedding years ago. At that time I was on a high-fat paleo diet doing lots of butter/coconut oil coffee and such, and thought I was eating an “optimal” diet from every book I’d read. I didn’t feel great, but I figured I just hadn’t been doing it long enough. When we started talking at the wedding, I asked Cyrus what he did. He explained how he was using nutrition to help diabetics have massive improvements in their health. “Oh, so you’re probably feeding them low carb?” I say. “Nope. Lots of fruit. Basically no fat” he replies confidently. I was trying to be polite, so I said something like, “uhh, ok, nice to meet you.” Thinking in my head, this guy is nuts and clearly misinformed. But being a geek for nutrition and biology, I talk to him more at the wedding reception, and he explained exactly how he repeated experiments during his PhD at Berkeley over and over and over again that showed that the very low fat test groups were the healthiest. I walked away from that wedding eating tons of fruit and roughly following the 80/10/10 diet (which he recommended), and have never before touched the degree of health I’ve had since meeting him. I was never diabetic, but since talking to him I’ve gone off of antidepressants and thyroid medication. This way if eating doesn’t just help insulin resistance, eating very low fat raw fruits and vegetables seems to be able to improve or cure almost any health challenge or disease. Since then I’ve also found the Medical Medium books, which echoed exactly the same things Cyrus found in his research. My health and energy are shockingly good, and getting even better daily.

My liver enzymes, showing a progressive fatty liver condition after eating Keto for 4 years, were getting to high. I found this site because 16 years ago followed 'The Mucousless Diet Healing System' and felt so wonderful on this diet I wanted to get back to that energy and started researching. So in January I started the whole food plant based approach. Didn't eliminate all the oil I should have until about 4 months ago. At 73 I have no problem with energy (I can work a 12hr day with no ill effects) and my total cholesterol dropped from 256 to 150. My ALT and AST dropped from 33 to 29 and 26 respectfully ... so I am on my way. I have a wonderful appetite, eat what I want from the plant kingdom and dropped 10 more pounds this past summer. I didn't need to lose weight, it just came off. Depression gone, energy way up, attitude wonderful and I love eating all the foods I restricted myself from for so many years. @@margiemistretta8885 , I have watched videos from several different experts who use different approaches for T2D, all with demonstrable results. I think Dr. Fung's fasting method makes a lot of sense for helping to reverse insulin resistance but I also agree with the plant-based diet because, as this video illustrates, the main cause of insulin resistance is too much fat in the cells. Low carb diets work in the short term because you're lowering your glucose and insulin production but that doesn't solve the root problem. Not to mention the health issues associated with high saturated fats and animal products. IMO, the goal is to get insulin to do it's job so your body can process carbs and sugar normally.

Thanks for that really clear explanation if why fat is the cause of insulin resistance. Penny dropping moment for me. It makes several things drop into place actually. When younger i could run all day with no food, accessing my stored fat and feeling good. 30 years later I know I'm insulin resistant and when out running, after around an hour I crawl to a halt. I can't access my fat stores as far as I can tell. To keep moving I have to eat carbs. The stupid thing is that my body is fat...belly fat is my nemesis. How ever little I eat I can't access this fat easily. I just don't lose weight even running 50 miles a week. I know my blood sugars are higher than I would lie and sure that there was a connection. Fasting bs be have been at 110 to 130 for years and years. I tried keto and Paleo and things just got worse after a couple of months of initial success. Gradually climbing to where I'm serously worried about my health. I found Dr Gregor and have been following a vegan WFPB for about three months but wandered a bit as I didn't really understand the fat issue. Last night I made my self a meal of rice, mango, sweet potato, chickpeas. Stuck some chutney on top for flavour. Bingo... fasting BS this morning is 105. I finally understand why a small handful of nuts or nut butter sky rockets my BS even though they are healthy. Thank you, I now know I can do this.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 10. That was 23 years ago. Previously, nobody in my family had diabetes of any type, but after i fell ill, my sister's younger son was also diagnosed with it 2 years later. 3 years ago, her older son got ill as well and he was 24 years old, when he got type 1 diabetes. Now, the reason why I brought it up were the events that occurred right before each of us got sick. I had a riding accident, my sister's younger son was hit by a car and her older son had a motorcycle accident. Roughly 2-3 weeks after these events took place, we all started to show the symptoms: thirst, stomach pain, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, headaches. My mother thought it was stomach flu at first, but when results came in I was hospitalized right away. When my sister's younger and older sons started showing the symptoms, we already knew to be suspicious. So it got me thinking, if the stress from these events (possible adrenaline rush) could have triggered the diabetes? While I was in hospital I had met 2 more patients (girls) who also had developed type 1 diabetes and they also had scary events happening right prior ( a dog attack and nasty fall from a tree). I guess I was wondering if You had any scary, stressful events happening prior your endocrine systems going haywire?
@sherill33696 жыл бұрын
If you are in an accident, a fire , etc, or some other extremely stressful situation that causes your adrenaline to get out of control, sometimes the hospital will administer steroids. (Like Prednisone, etc) and based on my experience I believe the steroids can damage your pancreas resulting in the need to administer insulin with possibility of diabetes as a consequence.

i am insulin resistant. I've been a vegetarian for 40+ years so I eat cheese. I have given up all refined sugar and flour. I am very familiar with the "blue zone" and their eating habits which is basically your approach. I was watching some videos from a man who eats different things and then looks at his blood sugar a couple of hours later. In one of his tests he eats a grilled cheese made with ezekiel bread. It did not cause a spike in his blood sugar. He says you can mitigate a blood sugar spike by adding protein. He tested bananas, green, ripe and overripe. The over ripe caused the biggest spike but when he added peanut butter, the spike was reasonable. Can you explain this to me? My local doc, who is plant based, told me not to eat more than 1/4 avacodo but when avacodo was tested, no spike. If you are not experiencing a spike, wouldn't that mean the sugar in your blood has remained stable?

I just cut out a lot of fat from my diet (without going vegan), and I dropped 10 units of insulin after 1.5 weeks (I'm a type 1), but I still had fluctuations in my BG that were unacceptable. I never normalized my BG, and I sort of reverted back to my old ways after suffering from severe stress (I stress eat). I'm just looking into going plant based again, and hopefully succeed this time. :)

I'm leery of going months with elevated glucose just to find out what happens to my insulin resistance. I'll buy the plant-based diet but it's difficult to go along with the "high carb" part (potatoes, corn) or the fruit part (mangoes, oranges). I have to trust my BGM readings and anything that sends them up doesn't make any sense to me.

you need to rewatch the video. specifically where he discusses fat competing with sugars for uptake into the muscle. I'm just 2 months into a high carb diet. my only stipulations are that i eat less than 20g of fat per day, and drink plenty of water. I'm down 6lbs, eating crazy amounts of fruit and sugar. My typical mid afternoon energy crash is a thing of the past, and i sleep like a rock. I'll repeat: you must keep fat below 20g per day, and you will not get blood sugar spiles.

🙏 I have been a t1 since 2000 (i was 9). Growing up, I was ALWAYS told "eat low carb, high fat. Avoid carbs to avoid insulin resistance." I also suffer from hypothyroidism and sarcoidosis....i gained a shit load of weight. My sugars were anywhere from 35 to 600 on any given week. I had gained 30 lbs too much weight at 16 years old. My a1c was 13.6. My eyesight deteriorated within one year. The healthiest I ever was was in 2017. I immediately began a fully plant-based diet. Within 2 months, my a1c dropped 2.5 points. My sugar was consistently between 80-120. I lost 25 lbs. My energy level was off the charts. I was constantly happy. I ended up in the hospital in December of 2017 due to sarcoidosis... During that time, I stopped eating plant based. Since then, I have become extremely lazy (the heaviest I have been since being pregnant), my a1c has gone back up... My sugars are inconsistent. I tried keto (as everyone says a diabetic should). It made me feel absolutely horrendous. I have mentioned to my husband several times that I want to go back to eating plant based, and he always thought I was crazy until hearing this... I will definitely be going back to a fully plant-based diet. 🙏🙏🙏

After watching all your videos I've just become so inspired and I feel like after a road full of ups and downs that I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. My HBA1c is currently sitting around 7.3, but I'm hoping to get it down to 6.7. I've upped my carb intake from 130 to 300-400g a day!! That number is crazy for me! I have noticed that after I give my insulin I begin to fall low, so I up my carb ratios. I still have the odd high number, 10.3-12.1. Im just really curious to know, when you first transitioned to a vegan diet, particularly HCLF, how long did it take for you to up your carb ratios and for your blood levels to equalise? I have a constant fear of falling too low so I don't give too much insulin, and in result I fall a little high! Thanks so much guys! So inspiring!

I'm confused: my professor in Belgium tells me that it's fructose (like in refined sugar, but also in other sources like fruits) that causes insuline resistance over time. So you should ban refined sugar and moderate in other alternative sugar like agave, maple syrup, but also fruits (like no more than three portions of fruit in a day - if you're a healty non insuline resistance person), because the over intake of fructose will be stored as fat in your liver, muscles, tissues which will create abdominal fat and insuline resistance/diabetes II over time. But in the lecture was told, it's due to saturated fat, but what about the over-intake of fructose or carbohydrates in general, won't that be stored as fat? (i agree that saturated fat should be limited) I don't understand why it's okay to eat as much fruit as i see in the videos) Thank u for the interesting lecture and for reading my question.

You're welcome. So many questions... Maybe it all wouldn't be so complex if we all ate according to our nature, whole plants etc... But it's so hard!! I also think exercise is a key element in diabetes (and off course health in general). I've been told that exercise helps the cells to be more sensitive to insuline. And my co-worker (has diabetes I) confirms this: if she has an active day, she has to inject less insuline than if she doesn't have an active day.
@slucialaw63637 жыл бұрын
:-) Yes, you are right, although we must take exercises easy otherwise it can also triggers cortisol and cholesterol and one may have a reverse result. As you said it is complex indeed. I think we all must try to discover what works for each one of us as Nature made us a little bit different from each other. I live in Brazil, plenty of fruits and I would love to be allowed to include them on my diet. I will give it a try and see what happens. Nice talking to you. Best wishes to you and your co-worker.

Saying a "ketogenic diet" or a "vegan diet" can potentially be meaningless. 100% Canola oil will put on in ketosis, and likely gummy bears are vegan. I largely follow the Wahls Protocol by Dr. Terry Wahls (she has 3 versions, and I'm on the ketogenic version except that I add in eggs and raw cheese). I went from prediabetic (106) to a fasting blood glucose now of 72 or 74 most days. I had fatty liver which is now gone, HS-CRP dropped by 100%, HDL up, triglycerides down, got rid of psoriasis on my ankle, and so many more benefits. I eat grass fed meat only about twice per week, and now I basically quite eating out since what I make tastes so much better. I make my plates large based on a wide range of multi-colored vegetables, then I add coconut oil or grassfed butter (sometime olive or or avocado oil), avocados, spices, and then either sardines or salmon, and occasionally red meat. I also eat fermented food whenever I can, and I do IF so I try to eat within a 6 hour window or less each day. I have no idea if my approach will work for others, but having tried innumerable diets for over 30 years, I know without a doubt that what I'm doing now is far better than anything I've ever done before. No matter what anyone else says -- find your own approach. I will likely stay in ketosis (no carb cycling) for the rest of my life but I hope that I will stay open to new approaches over time in order to improve on my search for optimal health and nutrition.

@@neoflyboy I found this book so useful, I'm a natural practitioner, and after reading this book, I realised, that even though the book is cheaply printed, the contents are worth a read. I've been using the dressings for a while and seen a difference. From a natural perspective, the foods used in the recipes are extremely good for you and would benefit many people in a positive way, not just pre diabetic and diabetic. I would recommend it. My blood sugar is back to normal after 10 days and I'm still feeling the benefit. for mmore information visit here tinyurl.com/diabetesremedh >

Hi. Thank you for sharing. Would you be so kind to share any thing you can link to developing diabetes? Also did you get any sort of vaccines ? Flu shots, anything? If so when ? Thank you!

Don't increase your carb intake from grains but yes you can eat fruits because fruits have antioxidants that help your body . I used to eat French toast for breakfast and everyday after one hour my sugar dropped because the French toast spiked my blood sugar then it drops and I used to get a hunger attack not I only eat two eggs for breakfast no bread , for lunch I eat a big salad with shrimp or I eat quinoa with salmon on top . And for dinner I never eat any carbs from grains , I will make grilled chicken usually and I do eat two avocados daily for the nutrition

They are referring to the whole30 diet. I just did 30 days of it didn't lose weight but my bs went from 285 to 106 and my a1c went down. I plan on doing the keto diet for 30 days then revert back to whole30. Right now there's way too much info out there and it's hard to figure what will work for t2d

Im thinking it’s ok to season my green veg with olive like I have done for years,, I’m sure it’s under 15% of my take for the day. I was also wondering about drinking my protein shake with almond milk and blueberries 8% a day. This is my third day and I am still feeling better and most imp more energy. Thanks so much! I know I’m going to need some tweaking to get it just right.

Me too, was going to try keto, but eggs and bacon in the morning, chicken breast for lunch and steak for dinner, I could do it twice a week but not every day. On the other hand this guys dont want any meat, extra virgin oil, salmon. There is got to be a middle ground.

@@magocybernetico I'm trying a carnivore approach on day 3 and I'm going nuts due to lack of food variety plus no bowel movement all week even though I hydrate and add himalayan salt - this will not last long. Done Keto before - same issue.

One would think that if these guys are wrong, their clients would speak out about it. I have seen no such debate regarding this dietary protocol not working. Especially folks that give the diet a chance and stick with it for more than a few days. As he said in the video, low carb diets work. He’s not debating that fact. At the end of the day, we all make dietary decisions that work best for each of us. I’ve been trying to reverse type 2 diabetes for 4 months now on a low carb diet. My blood sugar is all over the place. As he pointed out, when I eat a steak (high protein and fat), my blood sugar sky rockets. I’m giving this low fat Whole Foods diet a try and see what happens.

Im type 2 diabetic and im trying this whole food plant based diet im now on my 3rd month of the diet but I seem to need my salmon oil omega 3 pills at least 2 times a week or my mind seems to feel very foggy , will my insulin receptors be clogged with salmon oil if i only eat 2 or 3 salmon pillls per week ? or is this an all or nothing diet ? ie zero fish oil or the diet doesnt work ?

You need flaxseed & chia seeds & nuts & seeds for Omega 3 ( good / healthy fat)

How long does it take to improve insuln resistance by eating a plant food low fat diet.
@psyriv4446 жыл бұрын
I've been suffering from reactive hypoglycemia for years and have found some relief over the past year by eating a low carb diet with fatty animal and plant products. However I saw this video the other night and decided to try his protocol and I feel the best yet! Today is Day 4 of virtually no blood sugar dips, increased energy and mental clarity, clearer skin. I only had one crash after I ate too many peanuts/dried fruit one night. I thought I had healed myself before but I didn't know I had a little more work to do. Thank you so much! How good it feels to eat fruit again when I was terrified to touch it before. I'm feeling very hopeful and excited now and as a former vegan I'm elated :)

Update: Although this diet worked very well for a few days, I began having blood sugar drops due to the increased amount of fruit in my diet. Someone with my condition does especially poorly with sugary foods (even in the absence of fat).. perhaps my body wasn't ready for such a radical change. Still though, the more plants, the better I say! I hope this diet helps others watching. :)
