Basically the woman you saw in first story was mom. Both Mom and Dad were drug addicts, Mother Overdosed, dad went sober. However, Rebecca got into drugs during teen years, and dad died trying to help her during a time when she overdosed. She felt survivor's guilt and became high risk. She has now been 10 years sober and no longer high risk, but still feels guilty about everything that happened.

If you are talking about the ghost woman in white it is NOT the mom. There is a detailed description in the computer that the woman in white and the shadow demon are the embodiments of different houses of satan. Its worth the read and kinda hard to find!

1:20:00 the female ghost with the long hair in the white dress is a servant of the demon, same as the shagow man and all-white bald guy. The demon uses them to sike you out to make you easier to posess, iirc the info is in Raymonds pc

Just read the updates ... randomized items should make things interesting. Edit: If you read more on the computer, it provides lore to the types of entities you are seeing (shadow, mimic, lady)

2:37:20 I think it’s saying that the dead bodies we work on are temporary vessels for the demon. So when you use the blood of the possessed it binds the demon to the temporary body so it doesn’t leave it and take over us which is a living body. So when you burn it the demon burns with it. We have to find the specific body because that is the demons chosen body so you have to figure out which body the demon chose to inhabit temporarily.

The lady in white is not the mom like everyone in chat said. The computer actually has a section that gives a detailed description of each entity that represents a house, including the woman in white and the shadow demon. Worth the read!

More than likely what happened was when they invited her down to the beach she overdosed, and her "friends" left her there to die rather than try to help her and get in trouble for their own drug use. It's more common than you might think. I lost a childhood friend due to this exact circumstance. He and some other people were messing around with heroin, he overdosed, and they panicked and abandoned him. Unfortunately by the time anyone found him it was far too late.

There are 3 types of "demons" (lesser spirits) in the game, as there are 3 types of demon "families" - 3 houses: house of immolation, invidiousness and desolation. The woman, the shadow guy and the white guy. Each one represents one of the 3 main families. Also, each of them determines the cutscenes you will see. The woman in white- house of desolation. State of complete emptiness. Tortures Rebecca with visions of her life emptiness and desolation. She can attack and physically harm but disappears quickly. The shadow man - house of immolation. Spies in the corners... refers to sacrifice The white guy with big round eyes - house of invidiousness. It is the mimic, the "devil's envy for humanity". ( i guess the cutscene when grandma appears in the window it is the mimic if not mistaken). The scenes and the visions that will show to Rebecca are referred to each of the demon's type.

Vod Frogs unite! lol I know a lot of players hate Raymond, but I honestly just feel sorry for him. He didn't trick you into getting possessed, he just didn't realize that one of the newly delivered bodies was possessed when he sent you into the freezer room to get Dorothy Page's body for your final exam. As soon as he realized it he sent Rebecca home and tried to deal with it himself but it had already latched onto her and wouldn't reveal itself while she was gone. He HAD to bring Rebecca back in to do it herself or she'd get possessed anyway, it'd just take longer from a distance. It sounds like he had a family member become possessed as a young man that he cared for until they died but that made the houses of hell notice him and from then on every few years someone around him would get possessed until finally it got him just as he'd figured out how to stop a possession with blood from a living possessed person and the marker he invented. He couldn't just stop taking assistants if the demons couldn't possess people at his workplace they'd just attack other people around him in circumstances he couldn't stop. It was better to make it as predictable and controllable as possible in order to stop the demon. It sucks that Rebecca was caught in the crossfire but he was trying to make the best of a truly awful situation.

As far as I understand the story. Vallary gets possessed by a demon. Raymond traps her and it in the basement out of guilt. Most probable the demon inside Vallary (it could also be another demon) is trying to escape Vallary's body. To do that, the demon has to weaken a living host enough to possess it while its alive. To accomplish that, it summons weaker demons and uses a dead human to create hallucinations and lighter manifestation of movement. E.G hand turning, body spasming. (The weaker demons will fx do the same through mimicking people the "new host" knows.) To stop it taking possession of Rebecca, she has to locate the demon's temporary host, insert Vallary's contaminated blood, tying them more strongly to to the dead host, and burn it. Which will force the demon back to Vallery. If I'm wrong about the demon being the one possessing Vallery, fine. I think it more sense that it's Vallary's demon that's trying to possess Rebecca. Because out of all the demons in hell, I can imagine that one would be the most furious about the ordeal. It could also be another demon trying to free Vallery, or just having fun. But, story wise, I think it's better if it's the one in Vallery.

Well Raymond is not necessarily dooming everyone, not everyone is able to be possessed, and to keep his business running he needs assistants; see how he sends you home when he notices some weirdness, he tries to watch out for people but yeah. He is not a good person, but from the secret ending we know doing this provides some solace to the dead somehow, so he is still doing some good work, despite his methods. Not a great dude, but not plain evil either.

Theory is he made a deal with the devil when he was younger, probably did something irreversible which is why all the demons are after him and the mortuary. He probably opened the gates of hell or something, the why, we're not sure of. Other theory is River Fields, the place where the mortuary is located, is haunted, which is why during the intro Rebecca's grandmother didn't like the thought of her working there. Raymond might just be keeping the demons at bay, but another theory is he was the one that brought them there.
