This bunker is either fresh or not documented/not on the "market". That green suit is very expensive and would've been looted by now in normal conditions. Even old ones fetch $$$, new ones, from the same class are at least 1k. That, and some other signs (dropped linens and other stuff) suggests this was probably taken "offline" by their military before being abandoned. They took some stuff, that's clear. Most other bunkers of this size, this stuff is usually gone, even cheap shit like the telephones would normally be looted and sold on local fleabays. Whenever i explore, with the exception of tracked stuff or when i do assessments, i almost never find one where they haven't cut the phones out of the wall, and have found several broken phones where the idiots weren't even patient to take them off properly and broke the fragile plastic. Talk about nincompoops, can't even steal properly, little shits.

I can't believe how intact that place is. Still would be a lot of work to mitigate the mildew and mold growing in there before someone could actually use it, but compared to most bunkers, it's incredibly clean. That's amazing. Wild seeing everything bolted down to prevent everything getting tossed around in the case of a close strike. Even had the belts to strap yourself into the bunks so you don't fall out. They didn't. This is a bunker. Since it's in Hungary and with the age of the items inside, at best 3 or 4 military personnel were ever stationed there at any given time (unless it had any tactical value, which by the things inside, wear level on doors, beds, etc seems like it did not, everything's old, but everything's in good, pristine condition). A bunker's function isn't for people to live in, it's to safeguard the military whilst an attack is underway for a given period of time. There's population shelters (much like UK has in London and other major cities) but in other places of Europe (for the timeframe of these ones, WW2, Cold War, post) most bunkers that aren't military are completely different in construction and form. I think there's possibly like 10 or so videos on old bunkers for population. A bunker like this (military only) it's meant for 10~20 people at best, if that, whilst those are meant to cram as many people as possible from flats and other places. Two story houses have their cellars, flats have their basements.

It is not a communication bunker, but a "county command post". Every county in Hungary had 1 built a few kilometers from the town with county's rights. I have been to 7 such command posts, they look the same. Where you mention the phone line to the president, it was not to the president of the country. At 09:26...I recognise a lot of locations on that list.
@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath2 жыл бұрын
Ah shit! Thanks for your info :) I have been to multiple ones, but couldn't find info. Have you got any pictures online?
@CombatantBlog2 жыл бұрын
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath These command posts, were part of the "civil defense" organisation, under the Ministry of Defence. All of them were made in the late 60's. The maximum capacity were 20 people. And they were from the political party, police, military and such organisations. The purpose of such places, was that during the war or after an attack, communications, and remediation would be continuous. Total lock down would be only for 3 days or so. The president you mentioned, I assume was a connection to the county president or the party president of the county. There are 19 county in Hungary. So that means 19 such command posts. Some older "county command posts" were built under the town hals, of the county after the war, even some of the big factories had such "bunkers" with the same purpose. The list I mentiond and it is at 09:26, has the name "Szikla" (hungarian word rock) is at Budapest. You can find some info with the P50 and bunker words on google. The Hungarian air force underground command post in Veszprém also has the name Szikla, and still operational. Jobbágyi was a underground military factory from 1949. That was later abandoned for such purpose but started as a new life, as a government shelter, or we assume, cause there is little information about it.

I’m pretty sure that those chairs are designed to bring the user closer to the table and lock it in a firm position, prevents fatigue from sitting down long periods of time, you can also take a nap sitting upright 😴 Fun fact on average when working on a small object/handwriting they will adjust their seat position 1-2 times a minute. This seat posture takes that out of the equation

That box you didn't know what it is looks like a power supply unit with a solenoid activated switch. I think the idea is the power from the mains keeps the solenoid pulled but when the power failed the solenoid drops and it transfers power from an alternative source. It probably also signals a power fail condition up the chain to other sites and systems.

The spunker is most likely built during the cold War but I am assuming it was probably refurnished and use for a time during the 1990s and early 2000s. Because the chairs and equipment that is inside does not look Soviet or have that Soviet style that other abandoned bunkers from that time have also it is way too new looking and in good condition to be from Soviet time.
