Intake first. Cheaper, quicker bolt on. Then later when you bolt on the head you will get bigger gains for the bigger cost of the head

I know that better heads only make better overall power than cam only. That was rule of thumb before LS3 and the like which basically have race head flow. That said heads over intake. The modern intakes flow great so heads FTW

Better heads with a stock cam doesn't even come close to stock heads with a cam

I think you gave the poll answer in your question.... It Depends on what is limiting airflow more.... My Question - How would one know whether the Heads or the Intake was the limiting Factor ??? My case is a little different. Gen 1 SBC L79 in need of rings and valve seals.... I am trying to figure out how far to go and if its time to replace the Flat Tappet Cam/Hydraulic Lifters. You helped my sort out the Carb a couple months back - Thanks! On my L79 - do you think i am more Head Limited or Intake Limited... (note - L79 has the AL Spc Hi Po Intake, and 2.02 Intake Valve GM '461 Heads) Im torn between keeping fully stock vs looking stock but more reliable with Mid-Range power and torque. Thanks in advance

the heads are limiting-that intake is good

Hi Richard, love your videos! I have a lm7 I am building for a weekend cruise/drag/roll racing holden vy ss commodore. I've got summit pro ls forged pistons and rods with a 2cc dome and upgraded wrist pins, comp cam xer273hr (224/230/114lsa) I have 706 heads which would put scr at 10.8:1 but was also looking at 241 heads to drop to 10:1 as I'm looking at running a turbo kit aiming for around 1000hp. I will run a flex tune of PULP and e85, would you run the 10.8 or 10 static comp? Cheers from Aussie land 👍 😂

if running a turbo-I would pick the lower compression-but would have picked a flat top piston

Hey Richard, I’m trying to make a proper cam selection on my gen 6 454. I tow with the truck and I don’t want to hurt the torque around 2200-2500 which is my operating range at expressway speed. How much duration will begin to hurt my torque at that RPM range?

@@richardholdener1727 I will do that. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! Another related question that I didn’t think of before: I’ve read that the factory cam timing is retarded by 6-7 degrees to further neuter the power output in the interest of reliability and longevity. Do you think those degrees are in the cam grind or the timing set? I’d hate to install a better cam just to find out it’s still 6-7 degrees retarded due to the timing gear set.

If you had a cammed lm7 what hp t/tq gains would a person see putting the cam and 862s on lq9 ? Rough estimate?

Intake. It can max flow of heads but improved head won't improve Intake flow

What is the most power a intake ever gained vs. a cylinder head. Your looking for low hangings?

I’m looking a putting a crow cam 1287 it’s specs 277/244 114 lsa in my ls3. How gain in power would you think I would get if I get cnc ported heads and a fast long runner intake manifold vs just having the cam only? Just thinking is it going to be worth it.
