i think setting u to be sqrt(x+1) saves a lot of time though, because you dont have to bother with the root anymore when integrating. it even allows to cancel the nominator: u=sqrt(x+1) dx=2u du ==> (u^2-1)/u * 2u du 2 [u^2-u] du this gives you the same result but theres less of a hassle with the root. or did you solve like this just to show a more universal approach?

Using integration by parts and setting u=x and dv=1/sqrt(x+1) doesn't seem to yield the same result even though it seems like this equation could work perfectly fine with integration by parts. Is there any particular reason for this? As i'm quite confused.

it's possible the answers are equal to each other but they just look different. If they're not equal at all when you type them on online calculators then idk
