Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)
Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”
So I started tutoring to keep other people out of the same aggravating, time-sucking cycle. Since then, I’ve recorded tons of videos and written out cheat-sheet style notes and formula sheets to help every math student-from basic middle school classes to advanced college calculus-figure out what’s going on, understand the important concepts, and pass their classes, once and for all. Thank you for the help. I learn more from you because I think you keep it simple. You don't draw a thousand lines at every 1,2,3,4, etc value. That is not needed. You teach the principle and what stuff means, period. Thanks again.....tommy

Cud u please do a complete lecture on graphing all sorts of functions?? Like the ones wherein we have situations like this: y=f(x)+g(x) or y=f(x)•g(x) or y=f(g(x)). Plus pls include the floor, ceiling functions and fractional parts as well. Also mixed type of functions like y=x.sinx or modulus equation like |y|=|f(|x|)| or something of that sort... You did a gr8 job with the current video but pls do a comprehensive one on this whole graphing of functions thing..

You had a function f(x)=(-x)^1/2 You're squaring a negative, this would give you complex numbers, all you did was that you just flip f(x) onto the otherside of the x-plane.

Hi Krista, Do you have a video explaining this concerning sine and cosine graphs? Reviewing some trig stuff and I'm having difficulty recognizing when these flip. E.g., from a workbook I'm using, I have f(x) = cos x going to g(x) cos (-2x + 5) + pi. I understand the left / right and up / down translations (shifting left 5 spaces, up pi spaces) and I can even graph it if I want to go through the tedium of it. But that -2 as multiplied by the cosine supposedly flips it, across the y axis--yet as I see it graphed I don't recognize the flip--it just looks like the original graph moved up and over. (sine is usually easier for me to visually grasp--usually). If I were tested on this, would I have to recognize the flip from just visuals alone? Even with a set of multi-choice equations this seems very tricky. What to do to improve my visual acuity? Thank you! (Apologies for length.)
@kristakingmath
@kristakingmath 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the flips are tough. If the graph is already symmetrical about the y-axis before the flip, then flipping it across the y-axis won't change the way it looks AT ALL. The best thing to do is to focus on what the graph looks like right around the y-axis. If the graph has a maximum or minimum sitting on the y-axis (the y-axis goes straight through one of its "humps"), then it's symmetrical and flipping it won't change the way it looks. But if the graph crosses the y-axis at any other point, then flipping it will make it look slightly different. Unfortunately I don't have another video about transformations with trig functions, so I really need to add one! :)
