Great info here, Thanks! My "ToDo List" next point is to create a Aredn node in my city. AFAIK will be the first and this info in your video give me a great understanding about it. I already bought a Tp-link CPE210 to begin with... long journey ahead. Thanks again!

Bud, Thank you for the very interesting video. I'm not even sure if the hams have Arden here but I will find out. Thank you for all your time and efforts in developing and doing all this so all of us can benefit. Our hobby of amateur is amazing and has unlimited capabilities. It looks like I am going to have to get my raspberry pi and other things and see what I can do to get active with this technology. I have subscribed and have set your notification so I can be notified of your future videos. It's great to have fantastic really dedicated people like you helping all of us with this technology. Thank you. Eric

Great video. I learned about ham Wan Last week and AREDN this morning. I am new to ham passed technician in January and General in February. I have been interested in wisp gear for a couple of years. I may have a few questions in the future.

Thanks for this excellent explanation! I stumbled across AREDN and I'm very interested in setting up my own node at home in southwest PA. I still have lots of questions. Why did you choose the Dish version of antenna over a device like the NanoStation M5? Strictly distance from another node? Are we allowed to encrypt our IP cameras on the network or control the privacy in some manner?

Nazmi ... although some people do use a dish like this for AREDN, my dish is not running AREDN it is my connection to our North West HamWAN network. hamwan.org/

@@BuddChurchward can you run this without electricity?
@BuddChurchward
@BuddChurchward 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardwagers2694 Pardon me while I joke for a moment: No you can not run any electronics without electricity. But seriously, we know exactly what you are asking. You want to know if it can be powered by some alternate source of electricity when the normal source is unavailable. I am using a battery back up system that will keep me going for a short while if the power fails.

Next time. It would probably be better to start with the logical architecture, then wrap things up with the physical installation.

Is this possible now? I had heard we lost some bands that made HamWAN possible. I guess I should say 'legal' instead of 'possible'.
@KennyRichards
@KennyRichards 3 жыл бұрын
David - Yes, HamWAN is still possible and legal in the 5.9 Ghz band. Amateur radio service has a secondary domestic allocation in the entire band, all the FCC order did was expand what the unlicensed uses could use and allocate the 5.85-5.925 GHz band on a primary basis to the mobile service for use by DSRC-based ITS operations.

@@KennyRichards Can you please elaborate on the whole unlicensed part? Does that mean anyone including commercial entities? Unlicensed in this case only applies to point to point?
@KennyRichards
@KennyRichards 3 жыл бұрын
@@daviddickey9832 In this context, un-licensed refers to the usage of WiFI devices. (like the access point you probably have in your house or local coffee shop) These is commonly referenced as the ISM bands. If you are interested in reading the details, here is the FCC Report and Order doc. docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/FCC-20-51A1.pdf
