Thanks - I looked for hours for a video with info about Sonos multispeaker home integration and you had it all here! :)

Thank you for making this video. I've got a legacy Play 1 system and wondered for years how to turn it into a smart setup with Alexa. Am buying an echo now!

I have 9 Echo Dots and 3 Sonos Amps that power various rooms in my house. To setup Sonos speakers and amps to play in same group as all other Echo dots simultaneously, I had to resort to feeding my Sonos speakers with a 3.5mm input cable from my Echo dots. This requires a dedicated Echo Dot per Sonos because when you plug in the 3.5mm cable into an Echo Dot, it cuts out the built in speaker of the dot. So I only do it because the in-ceiling surround speakers powered by the Sonos amp that is fed by a dedicated Echo Dot sounds better than the Echo Dot by itself. I dislike the setup due to the high quantity of devices required, but end result functions perfectly and allows my in-ceiling speakers to play in my Echo Dot "Everywhere" group.

Can you have music playing on the sonos and echo speakers as multiroom/surround sound set up? Was thinking of adding the new echo 4 instead of buying a new sonos one!
@smarthome_diy68724 жыл бұрын
You can do multiroom with echos or sonos and but I don’t think it is possible to combine them together on the same multiroom setup, at least it wasn’t when I last tried. So you could have a multiroom sonos and a multiroom echo both running side by side but you couldn’t have a sonos and echo playing together as part of the same system.

@@smarthome_diy6872 thanks for the reply!! And damn that sucks 😭 the new Echo stuff look like they're pretty good!
@smarthome_diy68724 жыл бұрын
@@jtmorra9855 yes they do. I’ve never used one for music only for voice control, but the for the price they look very tempting against some of the smaller sonos speakers.

Is it possible to play music on sonos and the echo devices at the same time?
@pvt-pilot2 жыл бұрын
Not possible. You simultaneously play on as many sonos speakers, amps, ports, etc. together, but this will force a NOT COMPATIBLE on all echo devices after selecting the very first sonos device. Same goes for Sonos being NOT COMPATIBLE after selecting first echo device. Ridiculous they can't play together. Come on Amazon.

When you do this does the Alexa voice when she is responding to you come from the Sonos speaker or does it still come from the dot? For example if you ask about The weather will she respond on the Sonos on speaker?
@smarthome_diy68724 жыл бұрын
No with this setup the Alexa voice will still come from the echo device. I don’t believe you can setup Alexa/Sonos in this way but it’s not something I’ve really looked in to.

I use alexa through my sonos speaker and app, I've just been given a echo dot, do I add that to the sonos app or download alexa app and add the sonos speaker to that.(if that makes sense lol).

Thanks for the video. Quick question, When you tell the alexa to play, is the echo dot playing the music, or is the Sonos speaker playing the music?
@smarthome_diy68724 жыл бұрын
The music is always playing from the Sonos.

Does it still work for you? I can’t get the groups to be within another group as it shows the speakers grayed out as being used already...I have the most up to date version of the Alexa app. Help pls been trying to figure this out forever.
