Eckhart reminds us that spirituality is not something separate from daily existence; on the other hand, the more “spiritual” you are, the more “ordinary” you are.

What I find most difficult after my awakening and after living life through my mind in this dimension is the separation and how I see the world now. I can’t not see it. I’m living in this world but no longer of it and the stark sadness that I see everywhere. It can be very disheartening at times. ❤️🙏

I broke free and never looked back until recently that something happen i started to slip back into those mental patterns but now self aware that i am the observer behind the thoughts and the mental story my mind likes to create so i can feel like the victim of life it no longer works i may experience it the sadness and feeling down but i pull myself out

I understand your comment now more than ever. Being a spirit having a human experience is another way of experiencing spiritual growth. It’s a stop on the path to a higher level of consciousness. So like he Eckhart said, every experience in this physical world is spiritual because like you said, we are spirit having a human experience. Mind blowing.

I think there is a lot to be said about whittling away false beliefs, etc. - but getting rid of false beliefs does not guarantee that we see ourselves and the world as we ought. We need (the right) true beliefs also. I disagree about not being able to become more spiritual because we are already spirits, and here's why. It seems to be based on an idea that the spirit is static or cannot grow, augment, or be changed. Why? Because if the spirit can grow, we can be spirits (spiritual) and still become more so, in the same way that I can have muscles or be strong and still become more muscular and strong. I am human but can in some sense become more fully so by rejecting the things that corrupt or degrade life, and by doing more of the things that nurture life.

Looove this! I am facing this exact challenge right now. But I will say, that being extreme with spirituality really helped heal my emotional body. Extreme pain seems to call for extreme measures to heal (energetic healing thru spirituality for me).. Now it seems time to balance.. I am ready to be an ordinary spiritual being living and playing in life with everyone. I am challenged now with learning how to integrate all that.. but thank you for this video because now I see that to just BE and allow the ordinary to unfold.

This was really helpful. I think spirituality is more about incorporating it into who you are rather than adding on a separate layer. And rather than shouting it out to the rooftops how very special you've become, it is nice to keep this part of yourself to yourself.

Can you help explain what this could mean? I think I understand what you might mean, and I am trying not to misrepresent what you express but to understand it. I take it that you are not condemning spirituality per se, intellect per se, or ordinariness per se, whatever those things are -- you might be saying to the intellectual, "go on continuing to be that way, as long as you are that way naturally or already." This is one interpretation of the enjoinder to "[do not] be," as in don't be this thing or that. Since you go on to say that we should "just be," having told us before not to be, as in not to be certain things, it seems you mean that we should be only what we already are, as in do not attempt change but rather understand and accept what we are. This is not very helpful to someone who wants to change, or is trying to have a better life or become a better person -- in effect your words could be construed as advising such a person to go on being what they might already be: egoistical, greedy, lazy, petty, ignorant, racist. After all, if you are not specifically decrying intellectualism, spirituality, or ordinariness, but rather advising against change as such, why is it different for the unenlightened person? Shouldn't they carry on devoid of light, or better still, never pinpoint darkness and obscurity as the source of their anxiety? After all, this is a form of labeling. This leads to another thought, which is that it is not clear what any of this has to do with labels, except to demonstrate their value in clarifying obscure thoughts. Words are a form of label -- they are a sign, meaning they stand in for, point to, or indicate something else, namely a concept or idea. This is in the same way as a label, say on a jar of food product, indicates its contents. The label "PICKLE" on the jar is not itself a pickle, but it tells us what to expect in the jar. It is important that we have labels, and that we get them right. In this way, in telling us what or how not to be -- changing, striving, grasping -- you have relied on labels. Without the label, or with the wrong label, I would not know what and how I am to not be, or how to just be. What if I am a person who tries diligently to change in order to become a better husband, father, employee, and citizen? Should I go on trying to be what I am not, to the betterment of myself and others around me, or should I resign myself to being an uncaring husband, an aloof father, a dishonest employee, an uninformed citizen? I do not think this is what you mean. Then why dismiss labels? Might it be helpful to identity and label those things which I am aiming for, in order to reach them more expediently? Isn't it difficult to arrive to New York City, if when booking the flight you do not have the destination in mind? You might get there, but only by dumb luck and not reliably. Isn't it likewise helpful to identity the absence or imperfect nature in ourselves of the good quality for which we are aiming? If we never label the thing, or never see ourselves as we are, we may lose sight of the value of the thing we are pursuing, and give up -- especially in the face of serious obstacles. Or we may think that we have already attained the thing when in reality we have not. And here, with all due respect and sympathy, I feel finally entitled to point out to you what is obvious to any honest reader, and what could be for you a most helpful label if only you could accept this difficult reality: and that is that you are confused, not enlightened, and your statements are vague at best and lazy at worst, and that you are not qualified to advise on matters of such great importance, because you are likely to reap what has been sown in you, which is confusion. If you will accept that you are confused, you can begin to receive more light.

Beautiful! The young man was humble, conscious and open. Eckhart was simple and on point in his response, all that arises within one's field of consciousness is for spiritual awakening, spiritual practice or to be instrumental, wittingly and unwittingly. Spirituality is not about doing, but about being. The religious person does; the one who is spiritually conscious is, and the doing is natural, spontaneous, effortless.

Everything is sacred if we choose to see it that way! In fact, one of my most poweful awakening experiences happened while doing one of the most mundane tasks in the world: washing dishes. This was before Echart Tolle published TPN. I was so in the moment, my mind became blank and all of a sudden I had this wonderful physical sensation of well being and peace, and connection. It influenced me greatly, even though it lasted just an instant, a blink of an eye and it was gone. Then, it was back to washing the dishes.

So called ordinary life demands a heightened state of consciousness

seeing the recognition of Being in the eyes and then face of the eckhart and the questioner - if you need proof spirit/consciousness it is clear -but i expect that to see it you must already be aware of it ... what he (the eckhart) often says - "it is somewhat paradoxical. anyhow the most fulfilling post/video to date at this here and now... smiles all

I Agree The Ordinary then Transforms to Extraordinary, But it is true too in my belief and experience that the Extraordinary then becomes the Ordinary. I think this is what this Gentleman had experienced (it can be quite Overpowering) BUT in need of Balance and letting the Energy 'Settle'. 🙏🙏🙏

I enjoyed this video and absolutely excellent advice from Eckhart, it reminds me of the film Educating Rita where Rita is tired of her current life and says " there must be better songs to sing", much later in the film where Rita has lived a completely different life to the one she knew before Rita declares to the professor " I found a better song to sing " the professor replies "no you didn't find a better song, you simply found a different song to sing" There are many paths to the top of the mountain and each and every path eventually and ultimately leads to the peak and when we all arrive at the peak one day the view will be exactly the same for each and every one of us, its only our journeys that are different. If your path is a pleasant experience then enjoy every minute as much as you can but never kid yourself or more importantly try to kid anyone else you have found the one true path, because the moment you start to believe that your more lost than most.

Wow I've never seen Eckhart laugh that much it was great! Although I did get a little anxious for him, you know how when you laugh so hard you can't stop?
