Y = X ^ X ^ 9 Taking Logs on both sides... Log Y = Log (X ^ X ^ 9) Log Y = X^9 * log X Then You have to differentiate w.r.t. X, as shown in video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKjUfZaIaJZnq9U Let me know, you understand or not... If not, I'll try to solve your doubt by another way...

@ 3:25 , I tried to tell, Derivative of X^ 10 will be in terms of X^ 9... So, we choose X^10 = t & it's derivative will be 10*X^9
