I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective on the .41mag. My dad was a L.E.O. during the late '60s thru early '90s' . In 1980 he acquired a nickel plated 4" mod.58 which became his regular carry gun until he retired . He has since passed but I still have that ol' gun and (2) more in .41mag . The other (2) are another S&W mod.657 w/ a 3" barrel , and a Ruger Blackhawk w/ a 4.62" barrel . The .41mag does it all . The only problem , and you mentioned it , is ammo cost and availability . I think that only those that own a .41mag appreciate what a fine cartridge it really is . Anyhow , I enjoyed your video and Thank You for having kept our streets safe .

Hope you have some better luck in finding rounds for the best caliber going outside of the ‘district of calamity’ at the local gun shows you can find the 41 but you’re going to pay about $1.10 a round. Makes me ever so glad I over-bought ammo back when I bought my first 41 about 40 years ago and I also reload which that saves tons of green stuff
@alexandermfernandez9283 Жыл бұрын
Oh yes , I hate to say it but I've paid a lot more than that ($1.10) per round . My problem is that I'm not a hand-loader , so the only stuff I've come across is that very expensive Underwood or the somewhat better priced factory Barnes ammunition from Sportsman Warehouse . I don't shoot my .41s' very often because of that reason but I wouldn't have it any other way . When I do shoot 'em , I love 'em ! @@cajun5957

Thank you for reminding me of the elegance of the N-frames, and the particular virtues of the .41. My .41 is a Ruger Blackhawk, that I purchased in 1979. A friend of mine in grad school (at that time, in the mid-to-late ‘70s) had all three of the N-frame magnums in the presentation boxes: the 27, the 29, and the 57. All were blue, in the dark blue of the Smiths at that time. They were, and are, beautiful. I’ve traded and swapped a few firearms through the years, but have held on to that old Ruger Blackhawk in .41, and the Security Six in .357, that was my first firearm. I handloaded for my .41, about 7.5 grains of Unique, which was the equivalent of the old “Police Load,” when the .41 first appeared, and a heavy load (won’t say here) of WW 296 (the same as H110), and only had to adjust the sights two clicks between them. I still have my Ruger Security Six, and my Blackhawk in .41 magnum. Those of us who shoot .41 magnum are a small, but enthusiastic, community. Thank you for sharing your experience with those beautiful N-frames, and with the particular virtues of the .41 magnum.

Sure is a fine looking revolver! You may remember the articles written about the model 57, I believe I had read some handloading article about the early scarcity of brass. One solution was to cut down.30-30 brass, and turn the inside of the case to allow the proper seating of bullets. Somewhere in the article was the author allowing someone to try a couple shots, and when they asked what they had fired, he opened the cylinder, and showed the headstamps on the brass, which read " WIN 30-30"..I have a similar sense of humor, thought it was hilarious.

I love the 41 Mag. Been loading and shooting the 41 for 30 years and have personally chronographed, grouped, and logged data for over 60 different loades. With all the bullets and powders available, your only limiting factor with the 41 Mag is the rifling twist. Accuracy seems to be in the eye of the beholder, but i will tell you the heaviest bullet you can push mildly is 220 grain. With a stout charge of slow burning powder you can push 230s. Anything heavier the accuracy really starts to suffer. This holds true with Ruger, TC, and Marlin 41s as well. The only pistol that will shoot the big 250-265 pills for beans is Freedom Arms, they have 1-14" twist. S&W are 1-18.5, Ruger is slower (and shoot the heavies even worse despite what EVERYONE thinks) at 1-19" and TC and Marlin rifles are even slower at 1-20".

Hey sir, just saw this video and agree with you 100%. Now to the point of my reply. I have a model blue 57 no dash with a 8 3/8 " barrel that shoots like a rifle with my reloads. Thousands of rounds later and it is still accurate, hardly any end play in cylinder, hardly no slack in the cylinder and still never lets me down, i THINK I purchased it new In the late 70's . I also have a nickel model 58 , no dash , that I purchased new in about 73 or 4. These only came in 4 inch with fixed sights. My 58 has the oversize coke bottle grips , not the skinny k frame types, i have not been able to find anything about these grips u less the scripting good store swapped them out for the smaller ones for someone so the grips are a mystery. All I can come up with is the 58's only came from factory with the smaller ones. If you have any info please let me know. My 57 has large grips , wide target hammer and trigger , white outline rear sight and red ramp front and just a fuzz under 3 pound trigger pull out of the box. My loads with 210 grain and a healthy dose of 2400 makes it >/= a 44mag. I'm with you , i think the 41 just has not received the praise that it deserves. Thanks for. Your time.

Most certainly a favoite. I have the same .. S&W Model 57 .. I do like the wide trigger and wide thumb purchase on the hammer .. very easy to shoot well. Believe it was San Antonio PD that issued them for a short time, as well as San Francisco PD back in the days when revolvers dominated the police markets. Although I think for police work the Model 15 and 19 were much more popular. I consider the 41 magnum a refinement of the 44 in that it is by a measure more controllable and softer recoiling than the 357 and the 44 magnums; and I'm one of those people who are just inherently more accurate with the 41 magnum. In S&W K-frames the .357 is a bit stout .. as is the N-frame 44.magnum .. but in an N-frame the .41 magnum feels just right, and a pleasure to shoot.

Hi there, did you ever get your cross draw holster for the model 57? Was waiting to see the video on it. Can you recommend a good one for a six inch .41 Mag? Thanks.

Yes, I did get a cross-draw holster from Craft Holsters. I'll be doing a video on it soon. I imagine they have one for a 6".

I don't care for any of the Smith key lock models. Sorry but they don't build them like they used to. I have a 1974 6" 41 mag an 1975 and a 1967 S prefix wit diamond grips. got beat out on a 1964 first year 4'". I could kick myself. As far as the gun, they are a hidden treasure growing in value with collectors.
