Thanks Rick!!! After a windows update back in September my wife's desktop Bluetooth stopped working. I had the same exact issue in the device manager. I tapped over pin 20 on the back like you showed and we are back in business. This was after countless hours trying driver, OS and Bios updates. Microsoft or Intel made an error and neither will acknowledge it. I know for sure that this was working on her system before, since she has a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Gigabyte Z97N-Gaming 5 Motherboard came with the 7260 from the factory.

this is a hardware hack that worked for me. Mint recognized the card just fine on my old Toshiba Laptop. I still have the laptop, but no longer use it. Definitely give it a try, its kinda hard to cut a tiny strip of tape and put it over two pins, but if you manage it.... could be worth the pain to get Wifi connection updated.
@greazy56167 ай бұрын
You, sir, are a genius. Only suggestion to make the process easier is to use a safety pin or toothpick and dab some quick drying fingernail polish on the pins. Tape took way too long to cut, and the transparency made it hard to tell if I was fully covering pin contacts.

Repeating my comment because KZbin deleted my previous with link. I had success isolating just pin 51 on a HP EliteBook 820 G1, I did have to install the Bluetooth drivers for the AC 7260 for this to work. These drivers can be hard to find as Intel now have a disclaimer that they are no longer available for download as this adapter is EoL. However I found recent driver version (2021) squirrelled away on Intel's site that is compatible with this adapter. It was via a Reddit post "Where to get drivers for Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260'' , I hope this compliments this awesome video. Thanks @RickMakes.

That pin's purpose is to deactivate the bluetooth functionality, if you have a laptop with physical buttons to turn on and off your bluetooth, It will use that pin to turn It off. For an unknown reason, the drivers or Windows messed with that functionality. When you put tape on that pin, It bypass that.

Capton tape over pin 51 did the trick on my Intel 7260 inside a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI Mini ITX FM2+ Motherboard. Wifi + Bluetooth was working for about a month and then this morning wifi stopped and then stopped reporting as connected in Device Manager (not even showing in hidden since I'd removed the driver). For what it's worth as possible RCA, I think I was thermally baking the card; my AMD A10-7850K runs hot and a lot of heat was coming out that area. Probably should be re-pasted. @@Rickmakes thanks I worked it out last night Main - WiFi only Aux - gives WiFi and Bluetooth I fitted this WiFi card in my mini pc but they was only one hole to fit the cable on outside so gonna have to drill another hole to make a 2nd slot for another antenna. For the moment I have robbed a WiFi antenna from my old laptop that has been stripped and stuck that to the outside of the case until the new 6dbi antenna arrives. So I could have one antenna but would rather 2 so I have the full dual band and better signal. Some devices have a hardware switch to turn off bluetooth. Now if you use a thinkpad that has that awful bluetooth daughter board, then from the card's point of view it's as though that switch is always turned off.

Same as some of the other commenters, I was prepared to be astounded if this worked. I'm astounded. Here's what's really weird in my case -- I have two identical laptops, both running the same version of Windows 10. One of them needed the tape and the other didn't. Like a lot of the others here, I had wasted many hours messing around with drivers before finding this link on the HP community website. Now that Bluetooth is working, the wi-fi isn't, but I really don't need it so I'm not going to mess with it. (At least not immediately.) I suspect the tape may have encroached on adjacent pins and is interfering with the wi-fi, which now under Network Adapters in Device Manager shows "Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)" where it previously showed Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. I'm also tempted, now that Bluetooth shows up in Device Manager, to try taking the tape off again to see whether it stays there.

It's weird that this works but I've had many people have success with this. I have recently purchased a wifi 6e Intel PCIe card that only works properly if you install an older device driver. Hey! I suppose I have a similar issue with the Intel AC 7265: Wifi doesn't work (adapter disappears) whenever I restart. When I shutdown and turn on again by using the power button, it works just fine. I read that this might have to do with one of the pins, so I would like to try this fix, but the AC 7265 is shorter and doesn't have as many pins (and it seems like they're in different places on the PCB). Do you know if your fix might work on the 7265 as well, and which pin(s) I should try to cover then? I'd really appreciate an answer. Thanks!

I found the solution Primaltoaster if you still need it. you need to mask pin 56 (and maybe 54 but dont think so) on the card we have. Pin 56 is on the back. @@KaptainCanuck The Bluetooth is definitely sharing the antenna. Our BT mouse only works a foot from the PC if the antenna is not connected.
@SearinoxNavras5 жыл бұрын
Bluetooth shares the 2.4Ghz band. The main and aux antenna ports are irrelevant. Both bands are active on them. Higher end laptops connect antennae to both for better signal. Cheaper laptops only connect an antenna to one of them.

Rick, I Can’t understand why your intel NUC won’t pickup and configure that Intel card as it is? Is something wrong with the NUC or is it the card? Also, how did you find out about this and will it limit or affect any of the Wireless/Bluetooth capabilities? Thanks for the video!
@Rickmakes5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I can't remember if the bluetooth worked when I initial set it up years ago. I did some searching around online and found out about the two pins. It seems as if the two pins cause bluetooth to be disabled.

How do you reconnect the wires?
@Rickmakes4 жыл бұрын
The antenna wires should snap into the connectors on the wifi card. The connectors are opposite from where you plug it into the computer. They are like tiny snaps.

Just today when I tried to use Bluetooth on my NUC it didn’t work, and when I went to device manager I couldn’t find Bluetooth, and when I try to click “troubleshoot Bluetooth problems” I get the message saying basically that ‘your hardware doesn’t support Bluetooth.” Yesterday Windows made a few updates but nothing happened to the NUC itself (didn’t drop it, move it, etc.). I am downloading various updates from Intel’s web site, if those don’t work I might have to try this. :\

Yeah. This is sort of a last ditch effort. If this doesn't work, a USB Wifi adapter is probably the easiest and sure solution.

No hay otros pines. Podrías intentar rascar los alfileres. Esto podría destruir la tarjeta, pero si no funciona de todos modos, no hay riesgo. Si eso no funciona, puede probar con un adaptador wifi USB.

Hey dude I did everything you did, but it still does not work. I need help :(
@Rickmakes3 жыл бұрын
If you aren't concerned about destroying the card, you could try using a tool like a Dremel to remove the copper contacts as opposed to covering them up. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else could be done. At that point your best option is to probably look at USB wifi adapters as I don't think there are any other wifi cards available in the same form factor as the 7260.

@Rickmakes4 жыл бұрын
You might try double checking that you got the right pins. You could try removing the pins with a Dremel rotary tool. It could ruin the card but if it doesn't work anyway, you may have nothing to lose. If you can't get the card working, you might want to look into getting a USB wifi dongle.
