Still misleading. That’s video decoding which is performed on a codec block. This has nothing to do with the CPU cores and everything do with a matured understanding of AV1 and how to efficiently decode it in fixed function.

Tom Peterson is one of Intel's BEST assets. I'm so glad that Intel is willing to let Tom speak and interact with the press and media and he is able to freely talk about a LOT of things. That's such a HUGE asset for Intel as companies then to muzzle their engineering employees.

After initially being impressed by this guy, I also start seeing that he is just a corporate puppet of his employer. He says what he is allowed to say, nothing more nothing less. Also if you are familiar with the subject of computer graphics, you will start spotting the moments when he is plain bullshtting, or saying stupid things. Because he just presents what he is told to present.

On the ither hand, I would wait for the reliable independent 3rd party testers, to see how much of that is reality vs staged fake numbers. We know vendors can be extremely creative, when they want to distort reality to provide them advantage (a.k.a lying).

@@runninginthe90s75 Delivery was cynical but they got a point, the improvement in that test is so extreme because Meteor Lake doesn't have hardware acceleration of that particular codec (VVC/H.266), Intel doesn't hide that fact, they display it in big bold letters, but to a crowd that doesn't know what they mean, they might as well not be there. I have no doubts that Lunar Lake is better than Meteor Lake in that regard but in a like for like comparison it'll probably look closer to 1/3 of the power draw not 1/10.
@endintiers6 ай бұрын
@@HoveringAboveMyself Yes, but we are expecting content to move to VVC pretty quick from this point. New recording devices will capture in H.266 so hardware decoders for it are good (it's not mainly the compression, its smooth streaming that is the selling point).

@w00t6926 ай бұрын
irrelevant tbh, a laptop soc doing this is impressive regardless.
@ricsip6 ай бұрын
exactly. The devil is always in the details. Technically you can state it was using raytraced shadows, but at such a low quality, that is practically not much better than plain lightmaps. Also the other settings could have been dropped down to extremely low value, where it can pump out that 60 fps in 1080p. So classic intel, we dont really know what we see in these demos. Intel has many cheap tricks to fake favorable results. Thatswhy never trust demos made by the vendor, where you cannot validate the conditions.

Pretty interesting. raytraced shadow is a fairly low GPU demand feature, but good to see it's capable to do it. I am just wondering the production cost for these chips, it's so much more complex than the snapdragon ARM processors.

i doubt it will be cheap, not because of advance packaging but because advanced node is very expensive nowadays. But lunar lake is a very small SoC, even smaller than meteor lake-H SoC while included memory inside the package. I hope it will not be very expensive because of that small size and small die.

Can anyone explain to me how is lunar lake compared to meteor lake in terms of perfomance, I only notice the power efficiency of lunar lake
@vMaxHeadroom6 ай бұрын
Power effeciency is key but on top of that you will have an average of 14% increase in across the board performance but in some cases much higher and then add to that a huge bump in GPU performance with a final increase in AI performance...
@Matt-yn8dv6 ай бұрын
At around the 4:45 mark he says that the f1 game behind him is running at 1080p with ray tracing on at 60 fps and higher. Thats the only real number I heard in the video other than the power efficiency figures in the beginning of the vid.
@HKNotch6 ай бұрын
It's not going to be more performant on multicore: 4P + 4 E is not gonna be better than 6P + 8E. However, single threaded performance maybe will be better but it depends on the power budget. Lunar Lake is Intel's response to the Apple M-series macbook airs: it should demonstrate that X86 is more than competitive against ARM. Lion Cove itself looks interesting because it appears that it is able to be customized into many different flavors for segmentation: ultra low-power, medium power, and high power desktop applications (even HPC in datacenters too)! Intel's new approach looks interesting and smart.

Sadly intel can’t compete with strix at all. Even more,Battlemage dgpu wasn’t even talked about at all. It should have been beginning this year and since they didn’t even sad a word to oem‘s until today, there won’t be battlemage this year. Nobody wants intels chip in there handhelds, because they can’t compete even close to old hawk point and definitely not against strix.

@@Blockah Fair enough. The fact that Intel has improved power efficiency in laptops by nearly 40% while also achieving a performance increase of over 14% is a clear indication that similar positive results can be expected in the upcoming desktop segment. This also serves as evidence that Intel's 5n4y plan is progressing smoothly and without major issues. Let's maintain a positive outlook on this. Hope you have a nice day too brother.
