Interesting how the AMD and Intel approaches are now diversifying - lots of cores vs. accelerators. It would be interesting to see a direct comparison of the two on identical workloads to see which comes out on top.

Yes, AMD and Intel are going in very different directions with their latest server CPUs. It's going to make it much harder to judge which is best, as a lot will depend on exactly what software you're running, as opposed to how fast the CPUs are at floating point or integer maths. It's something we're planning to look at in more depth in future videos if there's an appetite for such content. - JG

What is an accelerator? Can you explain plis
@scanitsolutions Жыл бұрын
@Max007 I hope this helps: an accelerator is a fixed-function piece of hardware added to a CPU that is designed to speed up a particular task. In other words, rather than running that task on the CPU cores, the task is run on the accelerator, freeing up the cores for other things. These new 4th gen Xeons have up to four of these accelerators (each for different tasks), namely IAA, DSA, DLB and QAT. - JG

@@scanitsolutions Thanks for your reply. I'd definitely be interested in seeing comparisons based on similar software and application deployments. Also, I notice you advertise a POC capability - will these AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon 4th gen servers be available to test?

@@scanitsolutions Do you have plans to do. video in more detail on these accelerators - IAA, DSA, DLB and QAT?

I hear the Sapphire rapids architecture is coming to their workstation Xeon line up. My guess is that their next gen Xeon-W line will feature up to 32 cores and HBM ram support which mean it will be great for most use cases in that space.
@scanitsolutions Жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good guess, although the max cores is likely to be a fair bit higher than 32. You won't have to wait long to find out, as soon as we're officially allowed to share any info we will. - JG

Ill be upgrading my X299 build finally to a W2400! I know its excessive for gaming but the mainstream platform doesn't have enough PCIe lanes so I need the HEDT.
@scanitsolutions Жыл бұрын
What are you going to use the extra PCIe lanes for? - JG
@demonofelru3214 Жыл бұрын
@@scanitsolutions One Slot will occupy a sound card, another a USB 3.2 Gen 1 expansion card (need the extra internal headers as well from the card) and possible a capture card. Admittedly I do not "need" all these lanes but there is no more in between like X299 was. I also like to have an extra slot just in case.
