This is the greatness of human brain. Some one who puts his nose into the book for years and works in hospitals for ages cannot come up with such breakthroughs. It sometimes takes out-of-the-box thinking and common sense to find a missing element which many might have overlooked or never cared for, and we have a great idea. Each person sees a problem in a different way and a few get an instant answer to it just like that! Wonderful boy genius. Hope he doesnt listen to Justin Beiber songs :-)

If only more people would apply themselves in such a way. Our modern world and solutions are products of centuries of hard, genius work. I believe our only hope is in furthering our understanding of the universe, and developing technology. There is a symbiotic relationship between technology and science. I don't think it's coincidence. Understanding is essential in creating technology, and technology is essential in furthering our understanding (like with the LHC). It's also all very amazing!

Dr. Phil never did anything like this. The kid is the next Jonas Salk... saving tens of thousands of lives every year. If he lives to a normal life span of 80, and 75% of the deaths (about 40,000) from pancreatic cancer each year are avoided, he will have saved TWO MILLION lives in his lifetime.

What does one call that voice intonation of his? Valley girl? But Jack is only 15, and obviously he's a genius, and so of course he must be forgiven for that particular foible. Some mentor will now certainly come along and help him out of that way of speaking. Or really Jack will probably now find his own way out of it. The main thing is Jack Andraka is going to save us all! Long live Jack Andraka!

My suggestion is to @channelintel add tags for the various cancers this can help detect this isn't getting to the community that needs to know about it fast enough! Share the information with PanCan and Lustgarten Foundation, those working to bring information to the communities this directly affects.

Nobel Prize? Aren't they reserved for truly original ideas? ISEF encourages university-based work. In fact it prohibits participants from acknowledging outside help! The top two prizes in Medicine & Health went to students from John's Hopkins university, same lab, same advisor!!! Kudos to Jack for presenting complex research with passion and confidence at 15. He has to do original, independent work to make true impact on science!

not a cure for cancer, but an early detection system that's affordable and will be easy to obtain. this type of cancer is hard to diagnose in the early stages. Usually people are diagnosed only after it's spread to other places/organs in the body. (which is why it has such a high death rate) Having a way to detect it when the cancer is still contained in a small area will help save countless lives though. this young man is freakin brilliant. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next

With these high school science contests, even the Intel STS and ISEF, I often wonder how much of the work (or even the discovery/invention itself) was the kid's and how much was from adults. In most cases I get the impression it was mostly from adults. But in his case, he says the idea came to him in biology class, and I believe him.
