Pascal. I think your explanation with Anna is more eye-opening.

It's so hard to believe that the expert who advises many companies how to implement solutions of next industrial revolution trully belives that we will become "super humans" and work 1/3 of time and rescue the planet for remaining 2/3 of time. Understanding of lessons from previous technical revolutions: -1. Understanding of how to sell solutions to big companies wanting to be more tech to be more human: +100.

With how the industry has been progressing, I'd argue it's very easy to believe that an automation expert is bullish about automation.

@William Uemura he may be an expert in automation, but futurology is a different thing. I am just questioning his prophetic abilities. Moreover, being an expert requires understanding a bit of history of innovation. People tend to expect utopia when new innovation comes to live, like it was after the birth of the stem engine in the XVIII century. Then, utopian expectations met market demands to improve efficiency of production. I just claim he has a weak understanding of economics, saying we will rescue the planet for most of our work time because we automatize email delivery and other corporate processes. One company will, the other will just take advantage of innovation and work as before, delivering 50% more efficient work. What he claims is only to be expected after a communistic, ideologically driven government regulates work in some countries to make work day 3 hours. Then they will lose competition to unregulated markets who will work 8h. Simple economics tells he sees utopian business environment evolution, thus making me stop listening to such an an expert.

The previous industrial revolution replaced blue collar jobs on a widespread level. Physical labor isn't as intensive as it used to be in industrially developed parts of the world. As knowledge work becomes automated, how much work will there be for everybody? At some point, there will be a fundamental shortage in jobs for humans that AI wouldn't outclass us at. It won't make sense to keep us around. The real worry, therefore, is whether human redundancy will be subsidized or not. I certainly hope that it will be.

Great session, Barnard Marr and Pascal Bornet! Intelligent Automation had certainly accelerated in 2020 along with the digital transformation. I am passionate about what technology and AI can do to help humans be more human while achieving efficiencies with the use of amazing new tech.
