Well, this is the science behind "hair cracking." This is an ansestral technique used in many cultures from different countries. It is generally used to relieve headaches. The sound occurs by pulling the scalp (some extracranial vessels) causing an opening of the blood vessels. This releases the tension on the scalp and gives the sensation of relief to severe headaches. This technique is called "hair cracking" due to the sound it produces. 😲 Well this is something new. Seen it advertised around KZbin but never clicked on it before as don't like cracking (as in cracking knuckles). But this is nothing like that and it is giving me the most amazing ASMR tingles. Although this is definitely satisfying to watch, the reason the hair cracks like that is pretty disturbing. That cracking noise is being produced by a layer of connective tissue (similar to a tendon) being ripped off and separated from the scull. If this is your religion I am not trying to scare you out of it, but just know this may not be quite as healthy as you think… please look up the effects of doing this before trying it. (headaches can also be dulled by gently tugging on the hair btw)

i’m sure there is somewhere but i wouldn’t recommend it. the pop sound is (very simplified version) the membrane under the scalp being separated from the skull, which I can’t imagine would be good for you in the long term lol

I used to have headaches all the time and my ex-colleugue would come up to me and ask me which side hurts, then she starts choosing parts to pull. The crack sound is loud and an instant relief of the headache. Unfortunately I'm not able to do it on myself. Is there a tutorial out there for this? I would like to learn and practice on myself.

Also, the skull is made up of multiple little "plates" with spaces between them to allow your head and brain to grow without needing to also grow a new skull, so maybe that has something to do with this whole "hair cracking" thing

It's actually very simple...the scalp and the skull are not stuck together, once the hair is lifted the "crack" is essentially the air pocket popping due to the suction of the scalp being lifted from the skull. It should really be called "scalp popping" opposed to hair cracking.

You have to single out a good amount of hair like shown in the video. Enough for it to be a pulled without just pulling out your hair. Typically what I do is curl it around my finger tightly then roll my finger against my scalp causing tension and pulling. I find it works best along the outer edges and it doesnt work too well in the middle of your scalp. It creates a small little cavity for a moment. Imagine a water melon enveloped by a balloon, and then pulling the balloon away from the watermelon. Now imagine there was a sort of wet layer between the watermelon and balloon so when you pull at the balloon in a small area it creates a sort of small suction affect. This is the best explanation I can think of XD sometimes it hurts a bit other times it feels good
