Mike is going to transform these kids into some dogs man. They are already phenomenal at chess but he is training their minds against trash talk and teaching them how to talk. He’s going to grow a couple of chess sharks.

Completely agree! There's something amazing and wholesome about coffee chess that you don't get anywhere else. Usually wholesome things are cheesy/cringy/not good so it's great when you find something that is dope and wholesome.

”Kid" gloves are off in terms of how Mike talks to Golan. But that's a earmark of respect. When Boston Mike tells you " you're not that good"...you're pretty good. Better stockpile the W's while you can Mister Man. Time is on Golan's side.

I understand the value for a youngster of building the self-confidence to stand up against this kind of verbal attack, and staying focused. But I think there's a point where it goes over the line, with a direct attack on the young player's self-image--like going for the juglar vein. There's a difference between "I'm going to take your lunch money" and "you're a weak player." I'm not a chess player (or, not a good one) myself, and perhaps people feel that "all's fair in love, war and chess." If that's true, however, I'd suggest shin kicking. Why not? It would certainly distract the other player.
