Amazing information. I saw people adding 1.7kg of salt for M3 . Is that good or bad . What do you think as well of adding probiotics as lactobacillus ? Thank you in advance
@hashtagfish8542Ай бұрын
hello, depending on what is the level of salinity in the system, which should not be below 10 ppt for intensive system. 1.7kg of salt only increases 1.7ppt, so it does not make any difference. Not bad for the fish, just for the pocket. And adding probiotics of a reputable brand, yes, absolutely. Lactobacillus are better to be added in the feed rather than in the water.

Hi SANTOS, we'll have videos on feeds coming. Always be cheaper to buy from a feed mill, you can't achieve the fine grinding of ingredients needed and the price you will pay for ingredients will be much higher than what feed mills pay buying in bulk. So you will end up with a much more expensive and bad feed...

We observed dead shrimp every time there is a heavy moulting in our biofloc tank. Almost 20 dead shrimp in a day coming into the feed check tray. It's a 20K litres tank, density is 400 per cubic metre. The pH is 7.7, alkalinity is 170, salinity is 8 ppt (added salt to fresh water), Ammonia is Nil, Nitrate 0.5. The shrimp seems to be active but not taking much feed. Are we missing anything? Clueless why the shrimp are dying even the water parameters seems to be fine. Appreciate your suggestions. Thank you..

Question, do you have any opinion about Total Organic Carbon and Biology Oxygen Demand in Aquaculture ?
@hashtagfish85423 жыл бұрын
yes I have, after 24 years in this industry in various capacities. It is good to understand general concepts and theories, and for researchers and academics like me to be able to scientifically demonstrate findings and get our papers not rejected by mean reviewers. In practice it is all about keeping DO close to saturation, or above 5 mg/L and the culture species, microbiome and environment will be fine !

If water is matured no spikes in nitrite expected unless you have dead zones where organic matter accumulates. Nitrite as low as possible (

every 1000 g of feed requires 650 g of molasses to get a c/n ratio of 15:1... (1000*0.35)*0.16 = 56. (56*15)-(56*9.2) = ( 840-515.2) = 324.8*2 (50% carbon molasses) = 649.6 g molasses.. so, if we apply 2 tons of feed or 2000 kg for one grow out season, then we need 1.3 tons or 1300 kg of molasses. is this calculation correct?

Hi friends, How can we manage mineral in biofloc system? High population means high mineral needed. Do we need additional mineral to cover that?
@hashtagfish85423 жыл бұрын
no need additional minerals, for shrimp it is good to have some marine water at least 5 parts per thousand (ppt) of salinity as it decreases the toxicity of nitrite (more risky in freshwater)
@TheKimmiG3 жыл бұрын
I thought for shrimp moulting process need a lot of magnesium and calcium from sea water. But in biofloc (very less water change) means not enough mineral in intensive systems.

How much caco3 or dolomite should be used to maintain the alkalinity n ph
@hashtagfish85423 жыл бұрын
Agriculture limestone is less reactive and doesn't raise the pH as much, it tends to keep pH at neutral (~7) so not ideal you have to use quite a bit more (1.5 to 2x), even more dolomite because it has less Calcium. Better is to use sodium bicarbonate, but more expensive than Calcium Hydroxide.
