no need, it's conductive ink. Projector is "normal". but every interactions are scripted in Arduino or else. And directly commands interactions.

what is the model of the projector? short throw? we are a design agency working on similar project and need to figure out a good laser projector.

You can minimize shadows by using a hyper-simple beam projector. (ex. Vivitek / Optoma / Epson)
