I loved how they used almost every form of transport known to man and how he'd do front flips over farm gates, despite wearing a heavy leather trench coat(!) Even now Interceptor looks fresh, probably thanks to the rural/coastal settings.

The original series hasn't dated at all when you look at them now over 30 years since they were originally broadcast. The helicopters still look modern. the fashions of the contestants, hairstyles including the presenter Anabel Croft still looks contemporary along with the cars, the sheep, the cows, the hedges, the stone walls, etc

Great to hear this again. I think it’s based on a classical piece? Years ago we were on holiday in Port Isaac in Cornwall when my kids were little. We kept seeing various helicopters whizzing overhead. Also, on the Platt (harbour) there was a motorcycle, a buggy and a menacing looking man in a long black coat!! My kids (and me!) loved watching it when it came on TV.

A pity that both the Choppers used in Interceptor crashed and were lost on separate occasions. The Bell Jetranger (G-BHXU) suffered a fatal gearbox failure over the English Channel and ditched in the sea (it's still there somewhere off the coast of Alderney), the Pilot got out alive and was rescued. The Agusta Westland 109 (G-MEAN) had to make an emergency landing and suffered damage, it was considered to be uneconomical to repair. As far as I know, the Comms Helicopter from Treasure Hunt (G-SPEY) is still in service although it was itself involved in an accident some years ago when it clipped a power line. Good track record for Castle Air innit! :D

The greatest game show ever to have lived such a short life. I loved this, but even at the time it felt like it was going to be one of those fantastic shows which doesn't get the run it deserves. See also Channel 4's Wanted.

Series 2 was a bit wobbly. I thought the first series was solid. I wish it had just carried on as it started out, but I still very much liked the second series. Channel 4 should have stuck with it, it was a great format.

There was an interesting interview with Mike Malric-Smith (Interceptor's long-suffering pilot) doing the rounds on the internet a while back in which the flying was addressed. He said that everything had to be CAA approved, including the flight routes for each episode. He said that the "dramatic" flying we saw was largely thanks to long lens usage and "very sterile environments."

@@kaitlinbilous4605 yes the crystal maze has rdeturned a nd it has been absolutely massacred. Even the theem tune done by Zack Laurence has been reworked to a bland orchestral generic tune. It sets the tone as to how BADLY they ruined the show. This is why I don't want interceptor bought back as they would only ruin it.

I'd always thought that Zack Laurence's piece was an original composition. Then one day my mum was watching a classical concert and a pianist began to play. His miserable expression made it look as if his whole family had just died. And right from those descending notes and those chords I thought "I recognise this! He's playing the Interceptor theme!" I kept expecting a black-caped Interceptor to appear from a helicopter or a Mazerati, shouting "I like it!". The title of the music is Chopin's "Revolutionary" Etude in C minor, Opus 10 Number 12, hence the title of Zack's version, Rock Revolution.

Let me clarify that... my response was to the question about "Peak Performance", the Treasure Hunt theme, which IS a download. Must have been mixed up within the comments. "Rock Revolution" has never had a commercial release other than the 7" single as far as I'm aware.

I've only just found these bits knocking about on KZbin ... for me buying the 7" single was a lifelong ambition since the series aired, finally got my hands on a copy (in the end several copies) and managed to do a pretty good clean up job then realised all the tracks could be cut from the single ... took me weeks. Went to the lengths of actually creating CD inserts and spoke with Zack Laurence regarding trying to release it as a CD single but costs prohibited me from doing that. Peak Performance is actually a library track that they just used for the series .... it fits nicely as it turns out!

Given how they have massacred returns of gladiators and the krypton factor (soon to add to the list the crstal maze), would I really want this bought back? No. Leave it as a classic instead of besmirching the memories to make a quick buck.

Oh god I feel you on the crystal maze reboot, I feel you so hard. I accidentally flicked over to it about a week ago and I couldn't believe what I was watching. Whoever the current presenter is just insanely awful; it's like he's a soulless copy of Richard O'Brian but with none of the charisma or energy that made the show appealing to watch. With O'Brian the charisma came naturally and it was humorous; with whoever this guy is it's exactly the opposite. He tries waaaaaay too hard. It's almost awkward, in a way. Think I'll just stick to watching the reruns on Challenge instead.
