They will forever be known as Ground Hawg's That is all.
@IntercoTireCorp6 жыл бұрын
The name Ground Hawg was sold along with all of Denman's Intellectual property (mainly molds). The company that purchased them reportedly scrapped all of the light truck molds, including those for the Ground Hawg and Ground Hawg II - it is also reported that this company has no intention of ever producing a light truck tire. No molds, and the name belonging to someone that has no intention of selling it, at least not for a less than a small fortune, equals no more tires called Ground Hawgs in the near or distant future.

Two totally different tires. Both of you bought Bias ply ground hawgs.... Cobalt's are radial tires and are not ground hawgs. They have as deep a tread as a radial tire can support. Also we made them quieter by taking the blacked end of the lug and scooping them. We have the 17/40-17 size in development - as a bias.

@@steveogregg6940 Yes there were Steveo... you can run a deeper lug on a bias tire... however, if you take the squared end off the lug of an old GH, they don't look nearly as aggressive or deep. That's what we did with the Cobalt. It allowed us to quiet the harmonics on a tire - something that is highly requested feature (A tire without a lot of road noise). If you still want a hard core off-road tire with deep lugs look no further than a Super Swamper TSL or Bogger.

Give credit where credit is due. I'm not knocking you guys at interco. I've been running either tsl's or boggers for 20 years and have not one complaint.... until now. Ground Hawgs are legendary. They were the original bogger. They set the standard for ultimate mud slinger. I am super excited to see the tread pattern on the market again, but pay Denman some homage for f'sake. I mean... I guess you kinda are by using their design... but don't act like you invented it. That tread has been tested far longer than the 3 years you claim. That tread has been certified legit king of the mud hole since before most of you could walk.
@IntercoTireCorp5 жыл бұрын
Obviously you don't know your Tire Industry History very well MURDERYMOFO. Then again not a lot of people do, so we're not knocking you for that. We'll try to briefly break it down for you. For privacy sake I want mention his full name, but a man named Tom L. actually designed the original Ground Hawgs for Denman. Tom is also the President of Interco's M&H Racemaster Division. In case you didn't know, M&H is Interco's muscle car, street and drag tire division. It was founded by the late Marv R. (Google "who invented the Drag Slick"). Every single Interco LT and ATV/UTV tire tread pattern has been designed by Warn G., the owner of Interco. Also, Interco was also large stakeholder in the Denman Tire Corporation, and the sole distributor for the Ground Hawg and Ground Hawg II. For decades many of Interco’s tires were produced at the Denman plant. Prior to filing Chapter 7 liquidation, Denman's light truck tire division sales, namely the Ground Hawg line, had struggled due to quality issues. In the end all of Denman’s intellectual property (molds, brands and logos) were sold in a bankruptcy sell to an undisclosed company whom, to our knowledge, sought only the molds and patterns for Denman’s construction, agriculture and mining tires and scrapped the light truck tire molds soon after the purchase. This means the original GH and GHII molds, and tires, are gone forever. Interco’s Cobalt MT was developed from the ground up to be a modern light truck tire. The tread pattern does resemble the GH, which resembled an old Firestone Co-op Tire. It was our intent to build a modern tire for use on today’s Trucks, Jeeps and SUVs and we honored the past by using an altered version of retro tread pattern. We cannot use Denman’s name or any of their registered trademarks in our advertising, so we cannot give them any credit. We are under the impression those that know it - know it, and are happy that it is even back on the market at all, regardless of the name that’s on it.

@@murderymofo2102 It's a long and complicated story, and We try to limit our "retelling it" but are happy to when needed. The Ground Hawg was a great tire, and it was sad to see it go away. We were delighted to "reinvent the wheel" with the Cobalt. We are currently in development of new sizes (to match those that people fondly recall such as a 17/40-15,16,16.5,17 and 20) to complete the line. We've listened and even added a few 32s to the tread depth, although they are as deep as a radial can go. Interco is one of the few remaining privately owned tire brands left in the world. Jeep stopped using the 16" wheels as standard equipment about 10 years ago opting for a 17" to help accommodate larger breaks. @IntercoTireCorp3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the molds for the Original GHs no longer exist (as far as we know). It's a long story. The Cobalt M/t is very similar in appearance to the old GH tires, but they are different as well. They are radial constructed tires made for double-duty vehicles (on and off-road driving). the sidewalls of the Cobalt are slightly different as well. the shoulders of the lugs are scooped to reduce the howl that the OGHs made. The main difference is the construction of the tire. The Cobalt actually has a better-constructed carcass and was a ground-up reimagination. The Compounds are different too. The OGHs had a very hard compound, the Cobalt is a tad softer to help with ride quality. Hope this helps a little bit.

That's a hard question to answer Bizno... The TrXus M/T is one of the best all around radial M/Ts on the market and comes in many more sizes than the Cobalt... The Cobalt M/T is great in most all general,moderate off-road conditions. They pull like a MT should pull. The Cobalt is super quiet on the road, on larger heavier rigs they have a slight whine to them, but nothing that the radio doesn't drown out and or causes issues hearing a phone call. They also wear and balance very well. The TrXus M/T is great in any off-road condition or terrain. They are also great on road, but the CObalt is better - except in the snow or rain. the TrXuS M/T is by far the best M/T in the snow out there. @IntercoTireCorp Жыл бұрын
You are right and wrong. the 35 and 37 OD steel belted radial Cobalt Ground Hawgs were built not to be a revival of the old Ground Hawg, but rather a modern M/Tire with a retro pattern. Therefor the first two models (35x12.50 and 37x14.50 - the two most popular tires for daily driver trucks in the U.S. since 2007). Each model has a 21/32 tread depths, 4/32 (1/8") less than the Original GH bias and deeper than the Original GHII Radial., but the same or slightly more than most M/T on the market today. The 38.5x15 and the soon to be released 17/40 Models both have a tread depth of 28/32. This is 3/32s deeper than the original GH. The tires used in this review do have s 21/32 trread depth. However, for a tire meant to compete with all modern (made in the last 25-30 years) it has the same tired depth but clearly outperfoms them. The new design of the Cobalt Ground Hawg M/T makes it a perfect daily driver tire, that weighs less and is much quieter than the original, that last as long if not longer than most tires in its class and balances well and rides smoothly. No, it is not the old Ground Hawg, it's better in many ways. As intended.
