New studies are showing that Interdental brushes are more effective at cleaning plaque than floss!
Click below for full list of sources:
dimensionsofde...
Dr. Joseph Nemeth thinks that the new paradigm in cleaning between the teeth is by using interdental cleaners such as the soft pick advanced, and proxy brushes.
Up until now, dental floss is what most people use. However, flossing can be a bit of a nuisance. Only 30% of people admit to flossing every day and 40% of people say that they never floss at all.
New studies are showing that flossing is not the most effective way to remove plaque between the teeth. The most effective way is by using these interproximal cleaners or interdental brushes
We have a full list of flossing alternatives here:
• Save Time with Flossin...
Interdental or interproximal brushes are easier to use and more effective than traditional dental floss.

I've been flossing for 7 years (since around late 2014), but I've been flossing better for around 4 years (late 2017). From my own experience and my own oral health, flossing is excellent and I benefit from doing it 2x a week. However it feels like I'm simply scraping the sides of my teeth to remove the plaque (which is good). I recently started using interdental brushes, and it feel like I'm really giving the sides of my teeth a deep, well-needed scrub that flossing alone just doesn't do. They give that well-needed massage and tissue stimulation too. Of course I bled so much after using these brushes at first, meaning that flossing alone probably wasn't optimal at managing my potential gum inflammation. I used plaque disclosing tablets and noticed that flossing does get rid of some plaque between my teeth, but using both floss and interdental brushes got rid of a good chunk of that plaque. I'll be using both from now on. For reference, I use the GUM ultra-tight brushes (the yellow ones). I would not recommend the micro-tight ones (the smallest ones that are purple) as the wire is so flimsy and bends and breaks off often.

I just discovered interndental brushes and proximal brushes, after my last cleaning which was with the ultrasonic dental planing. You can get them super thin ( proximals) which massage your gums and get what you can not see or feel. Or you can get the interndentals which are generally a bit bigger and for larger gaps. Either way, they both are AMAZING and put floss to shame. Hated flossing, what a chore and a bore.

I'm a fan of Joseph R Nemeth DDS & Associates' KZbin channel. 😀👍 I'm happy to hear the update on interproximal cleaners and will be using them more often because I'm not too fond of using messy dental floss. I only floss because for decades I've been told I should. I have an appointment with my dental hygienist on February 4, 2019 and will mention the topic in this video. I've heard both sides of the fluoride debate. Some people swear we shouldn't use it. Do you have a video about that?

Oh brother 🙄 He gives a better alternative to flossing because flossing alone is not very effective at removing grime, bacteria, plaque, and tarter from in between your teeth. He did say if you do not use any of his alternatives, flossing is better than nothing. Watch his other videos and that’s what he says.

I floss first, then use the interproximal toothpicks and lastly use my water pick. I literally have zero plaque and have reversed my gum loss. My dentist can’t believe it. I also only use a manual toothbrush 🪥 no electric nonsense for me. Taking care of my teeth is a top priority for me.

@milicamarshastefanovich3312
@milicamarshastefanovich3312 2 жыл бұрын
@@janeok7702 Hi Jane! My entire routine takes about 5-10 minutes. It’s not long at all. The way I brush my teeth is like this: first start with a soft bristle with a flat top. You don’t want all those jagged bristles. Put your toothbrush at a slight angle and slowly, that’s key, go in small circles. Don’t do back and forth motion. After you do one region, go to the back of the teeth in that same region and then brush the bottom of your teeth, where you chew food. Flossing before or after makes no difference, it’s really personal choice. I also enjoy using a plaque pre rinse after I floss, then I brush, water pick and then lastly a mouthwash. If you use a mouthwash at night, make sure it’s an alcohol free and antiseptic free as well. You want the good bacteria in your mouth to do it’s thing while you sleep. I use Listerine in the morning but never at night. If you have any other questions please ask 😉

Do both for best results. Flossing feels like you're scraping the sides of your teeth which removes the icky plaque, but interdental brushes feel like you're giving the sides of your teeth a deep well-needed scrub.

Hi, first of all apologise if it the comment made you think that I was being smart. I just wanted to comment about the fact that their are no cures to stop a fixtured tongue. It’s really mind blowing to know that their is nothing to heal a fixtured tongue when knowing that nearly everything else besides solving a fixtured tongue is fixable in the mouth. Wether it’s from cleaning the tongue to getting braces in your teeth or what not. I just don’t understand why their is no cure to solve the fixtured tongue. The fixtured tongue puts so much frustration on me as I spend like half and hour just making sure that my tongue is clean and healthy even though I have a fixtured tongue. It really annoys me as I am just a young adult and knowing that it may be a life experience with having a fixtured tongue which makes me really scared about having a relationship with a girl as I would get scared of telling her I have a fixtured tongue or like just having to do the cleaning everyday of my life which doesn’t seem right. I don’t know but their may be people that have this issue and is experiencing it at a life situation. Which I am scared of experiencing because I have to put a lot of work and effort it everyday which is sad for me as I just feel very unhealthy. I just wish their was a cure for this issue, sometimes I feel very sad knowing that this may be a life experience. When I see other sticking their tongue and they have all nice and clean and healthy also smooth, I just get so jealous and I just think in my head like oh I wish my tongue my was that way but unfortunately it’s not. I really appreciate you replying to my comment. Uh, I just hope that you or anyone in the dentist industry can find a way to cure the problem. I know their May not be a cure to this problem but I’m just gonna keep my hopes up for this cure to solve the fixtured tongue problem. Thanks in advance .

This is new to me! Question? How long is the duration for one interdental brush? Once you start to use it, do you keep the brush inside the cover or do you put it in some sort of deinsfect liguid before reusing it a second time?
@josephrnemeth

I recommend using a new brush each and every time! Reusing brushes can spread the bacteria back between your gums and also increases the risk that the brush will bend or break.

NO to fluoride toothpaste or any toothpaste at all!!! I don’t use toothpaste! Why? Fluoride and SLS (sodium laurel sulfate). SLS dries out your whole mouth! Dry mouth, dry gums. Very Dry gums do not hold your teeth in your mouth. We need to have an alkaline mouth to have healthy teeth and gums. I use a tooth powder consisting of baking soda, pink Himalayan salt, and essential oils. And I do not rinse after brushing. If I do, that’ll just throw the pH balance off again. I never get dry mouth after brushing with my tooth powder. I have used toothpaste that contain no SLS and I still get dry mouth. SLS is the stuff that makes toothpaste foamy. So if a toothpaste does not contain SLS, it’s got to contain something else that makes the toothpaste foam up. You don’t need your toothpaste to foam up in order to clean your teeth. It’s like you’re brushing your teeth with soap. Disgusting. And I definitely never use mouthwash. That is also very drying to your mouth. Tooth powder is all I need to brush my teeth. I use that same tooth powder in a small glass, then I add hot water to it and then I gargle and rinse with that before brushing and then after I brush I do not rinse or drink water I wait a few minutes and then I drink warm water. Don’t worry, the water is not boiling hot, lol. I just like it hot enough to get all the phlegm from the back of my throat but not hot enough to burn. Warm water just doesn’t cut it for me. I use those same Butler pics that this dentist uses and also Gloss floss. I then use a tongue scraper to scrape my tongue. Then I brush my teeth, my tongue, and the roof of my mouth. It’s a lot to do before sleep but it’s worth it for me.
