In collaboration with YMCA South Africa, the United Nations Foundation and the Leading Like Mandela Institute, Engage South Africa had the incredible privilege of co-hosting an Intergenerational Dialogue engaging more than 160 young leaders, subject matter experts and policymakers to articulate and amplify South Africa’s vision for the future and cultivate broad-based support for investments to address 21st-century needs.
The Intergenerational Dialogue was part of the international Unlock the Future Initiative, hosted by the United Nations Foundation, bringing together 25 of the world’s largest youth and child-focused organizations to work together to unlock a better future for the next generations.
Insights gathered during the Intergenerational Dialogue will directly input into the Road to 2100, an intergenerational vision for the future beyond the 2030 Agenda to be presented to world leaders at the final SDG Summit in 2027.
The event was structured around six interactive dialogue spaces centered on themes that are critical to South Africa, and made use of a variety of engaging methodologies ranging from utopian brainstorms, to systems-thinking to design-thinking methods, conceptualised and facilitated by Engage South Africa and our facilitator teams.
