I saw the most gorgeous kitchen online when I was remodeling my kitchen. The original post about it showed off beautifully. But when I found an updated post about it a year after the remodel, turned out they had to spend another huge chunk of money remodeling it again. They forgot about function. Half the stuff in the kitchen that looked /amazing/ was /not/ functional! I couldn’t believe it, from the looks of it you would never imagine people spending that much money on their kitchen and forgetting to make sure cupboard doors could open! Or another example was the bar seats at the island we’re too close to the stove, so the owners could not open the stove if people were sitting there 🤦♀️ I guess we all live and learn, eh? Thankfully I was able to learn from their mistakes and my kitchen is fully functional lol

I decided to put some vinyl floor tile squares under my kitchen sink to make it easier to clean and move things around. It turned out so great that I went ahead and put it on all my lower cabinets for pots and pans etc. It's so easy to take things out and put back after washing the tile. I bought two boxes at Lowes and spent less than $20 and let me tell you it was worth much more in aggravation saved. Love you! You are soooo cute and funny!

Retired department coordinator at HomeSense(HomeGoods in US). A great cupboard shelf liner is vinyl flooring. I check out the remnant section of flooring retailers for smaller pieces of vinyl flooring and cut that to fit my cupboards. Nice and thick and stays put and easy to wipe clean! : )) I'm sure others have mentioned not keeping your spices over the stove because the heat and humidity takes away the flavour and they don't last as long. Hopefully, your next place will have more counter space so you can have them nearby : ))

I work in the electrical industry, fun tip You can actually go as high as you want in wattage with LED bulbs because you will never reach the 60W max cap. A 60W LED bulb is just the equivalent to a 60W incandescent/halogen bulb but only uses a fraction of the energy (it's really only 6watts). A 100W led equivalent LED bulb makes a huge difference

I have a 1970's ranch home with not a lot of storage. As I have remodeled the house, I have tried to rethink storage, like under and over the basement stairs. For cabinet liners instead of actual shelf liners, if I need the shelf to function a heavy duty purpose I use vinyl floor tiles instead. It has a sticky back like some shelf liners, you can cut them to size to fit your shelf and can handle heavy duty traffic and easy to clean.

@sugarfaryprinces4 жыл бұрын
The heat can make your spices go bad faster... I would go for a different location, near the stove but not above it. That solves the nasty looking appearance + longer lasting spices ;)

Agreed. On the left handside of your stove a long space relocate there should be ok.
@thesultan40304 жыл бұрын
I agree, most people who know how to cook also know that you assemble all of your ingredients first (mis en place) before you start your recipe, so you don't need spices at your fingertips at all times. I have a floor to ceiling spice rack on the opposite side of my kitchen from the stove, where they are not exposed to light nor heat. I just grab what i need for my dish and put them on the counter next to the stove with the other ingredients and voila!!

Are you sure your loss of water pressure is due to the extender? It could be there’s a water saver gasket (?) which restricts the flow. 🧡
@prayonkreutz23984 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. My hot water heater is in my basement & the water pressure has to "push" it up to my kitchen & bathrooms & it does it just fine.

For Europeans it is weird not having an extender) we all have it. All good with the pressure
@bettygaston66494 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Approximately 2.3 feet of extension is only 1 psi difference. There's no way you would be able to tell a 1 psi difference...there's bigger fluctuations in water pressure over the course of the day due to demand in the system. There must be something else restricting the flow (causing greater head loss than just the height). Sorry for the nerdy water resources engineer response! ha ha :) Love watching the channel though as well as your mom's!

Love your dog! Thank you for sharing your tips, I always appreciate getting tips that save me time or trouble. I would like to share a tip with you and I hope you don’t mind, I promise it save you flavor and money! As counterintuitive as it may seem, spices should never be stored near your stove. Heat damages spices and weakens their flavor. Spices should be kept in a cool, dry, dark area of your kitchen, like in the pantry
@eileencarroll64184 жыл бұрын
I ❤ SCOUT!!! I am surprised you did not use Smart LED light bulbs into your kitchen ceiling light fixture---like you did at your mother's house at Christmas. Then you could dim or brighten via your phone and LED would only use 1/10th the wattage of an incandescent bulb. You can get a 300w incandescent equivalent for 30w LED usage. Go for 3,000 Kelvins for warm color--avoid daylight color because it makes food look terrible. Hang your spice rack on the inside of a cabinet door to protect spices from heat and light. Hang them using Command Velcro strips so you can remove them for cleaning and you won't damage the rental property. ❤🐕❤🐕❤🐕❤🐕❤

As long as it physically fits, you can use a higher watt "equivalency" LED bulb than what the lamp suggests. For example if the lamp says 60W max, you could safely use a 100w equivalent led because the actual power consumption is only around 15W. The 100W equivalent LED bulb would produce much less heat than the 60W incandescent bulb the fixture is rated for.

I'm an assistant buyer for a manufacturing company. I do own my home and have lined cupboard shelves and drawers with inexpensive peel and stick floor tiles, I started with under the sink because it was water damaged, it worked so nice that I've kept going....best liners ever, so easy to clean and no ripping, slipping, tearing...any of that. Another drawback with spices above the range is you are heating up your spices every time you cook, staling them quicker, as well as adding condensation when you boil..not good for spices.

just 3 suggestions...and please don't kringe... but for internal cupboards buy cheap light laminate flooring as you can cut to size and sturdy as and easy to remove of when vacating.. 2. remove the valve from the shower head...if you can't remove just drill through the little bit of plastic ...it still saves you on water....and the hair gets washed with decent pressure... 3. keep spices away from heat & condesation it does ruin them try a draw if you can ....it's like pantry cupboards being next to wall ovens the food doesnt keep as long as they should as it still receives a bit of heat from the oven...it sounds crazy but figured out the hard way when all the vegetables were continuously going off...and all the muffins too... thank you for the black facet too...less cleaning is a great tip... thank you again 💖😘😘

With LED bulbs you should easily be able to get enough light in your kitchen. The wattage equivalent is not the actual wattage, it means that the LED is as bright as an incandescent bulb with that wattage would be. Look for the actual wattage, it should be specified somewhere on the package. (For example: My 1000 Lumen bulbs from IKEA only use 11 Watts of power.)

If you are using a new LED bulb it is “equivalent” to a 60W bulb in Lumens, but the Wattage is only about 14 Watts. New eco bulbs are colder for same lumens than old tungsten filament bulbs. So they don’t get hot, so go for it on your Lumens nowadays. Yay!

Computer Engineer in Tampa, FL. So, I'm just wondering why you don't just use a high wattage LED bulb. Watts are watts, e.g., a 9.5 watt bulb that produces 800 lumens of light does not equal 65 watts (the light output is equivalent to a 65 watt bulb; your caption says 9.5 = 60) You could use a higher wattage LED bulb, say 11-16 watts, and get more light

We also have glass tables in our living room area. I think having these has shown me just how much oils and grease travels while cooking. Most days I have to re-wipe them all down (if I have cooked the night before) because there is grease everywhere. I really don’t think you notice it as much on wood...BUT...it’s still there. Can you imagine what’s sitting on our upholstered furniture? Nasty. I’m sure having an open floor plan doesn’t help. 🤷🏻♀️
