I call mine Poverty Eclectic. This is the style you develop over years of not having enough money to buy what you REALLY like, AKA "Champagne taste on a tap-water budget." IKEA, hand-me-downs, thrift stores, and dollar stores figure heavily in this style. Mattress on the floor, 10-year-old shower curtain, table from friends who moved over-seas. Sigh.

Jean Vignes I feel you. The only reason I’m trying to decorate in Mid Century Modern is because my boyfriend inherited some Mid Century Modern pieces. Now, we have some great pieces next to our ‘Poverty Eclectic’ everything else which makes it standout even more. No clue how we’re going to make it work with no extra money but need to do something. I’m trying to convince him to sell some stuff that we don’t like (most of our old stuff) in order to buy something that works better with his grandparents stuff. So tired of the free futon couch we have but boy are Mid Century couches expensive. Best of luck with you achieving your Champagne tastes.

Jean Vignes This is where great minimalism could begin. Limit materials to item that are easy to get for free or for cheap but have potential to look nice! Think about the functions of the stuff you have that you don’t like. Make a plan to accomplish those another way. 4 concrete blocks and some 2x4’s and voila, a minimalist bedstead that keeps your mattress from getting moldy on the floor. Repeat the materials and turn into a coordinating sofa when you add a few cushions that you find or recover in a simple neutral - old white bedsheets? Repeat materials to make shelves, vary it up with some 1x6”s. Tv stand. Book shelf. For books and more - Charging station, holder of baskets for toys, gloves, keys, binders with financial and tax records, incoming and outgoing library items etc. need a side table or coffee table? Use coffee table as dining space to be even more minimal. Repeat with the same kind of materials! As able, share the un-favorite items forward for others to use. You can repeat this if you have outdoor space, too.

@@bitrudder3792 - Thank you for the ideas! I very recently spent a week helping to clean out the overwhelmed apartment of a deceased relative. I'm more committed than ever to minimalism. One can make a small, minimalist apartment very homey with a vase of flowers, some beeswax candles, a bit of incense, soft lighting, one pretty throw pillow, or fresh air and sunlight light in the morning streaming through a shiny-clean window. Ambiance isn't about more and more stuff, it's about a life lived well among a few, carefully curated and meaningful items. :0)

No, I dont think so. I think that's pretty rational and you could tie them together. So, maybe a mid-century modern chair draped with a bohemian style blanket over its arm, all while adding farmhouse (round Edison bulb) lighting. You just have to pick and choose which items look good together and which do not. It doesn't matter what other people think. It only matters what you think, what expresses you and who you are, and what makes you happy.

I think I'm transitional. I'm a mix of classic and contemporary. I like dark woods but I prefer simple lines or curves instead of anything ornate. My pattern choices are more geometric instead of floral. I prefer iron or silver for metal instead of gold or brass. I like neutral colors and add punches of color through my pillows and accessories.

I'm a DIYer and I tend to use themes to decorate in our house we bought in 2000. I believe our living room furniture is contemporary and the kitchen/dining rooms have a farmhouse country look. Kind of a hodgepodge of some old and hand-me-down pieces. Thus the use of themes when I was decorating. All the rooms have different paint colors in very light shades except the great-room, loft and hallways are the same color, a pale creamy white. I love the variety of color and texture throughout the house. I enjoy your videos and subscribed after my husband and I decided to move and I'm looking for some ideas for a different look in our new home. I love the idea of a blank canvas and starting over. This Texas woman is definitely farmhouse style but my home has some coastal, inherited pieces that are dark wood with mahogany style. Stored the mahogany dinning set for now and kept the darker wood only in my bedroom but definitely more farmhouse and coastal everywhere else. My design style is a mix of these three Farmhouse, boho and mid century (and a bit of traditional) I think they actually work together pretty well though. I’ve been learning a lot from watching your channel. So excited hahah you guys are having a baby! That’s an adventure I hit about 3 years ago. My daughter turned 2 this year. Motherhood is fantastic. :)

I loved all of the outfits for each style and subscribed! I am an artist. I have sculptures and photography pieces everywhere, succulents and rocks I collected when I went traveling, honestly want to make KZbin videos but get way too busy 🙄 but yeah I have a tiny apartment I rent with too much art everywhere but also bohemian I guess you would say. I have a desert themed porch and my kitchen is more farmhouse and my living room is modern with my fur rug and sleek sofa. So I'm an artistic farm house modern bohemian desert vibe girl 🤗

My dream canopy-tent adventure! MORE IS MORE! (I know it's long, but at list read the last paragraph) Boho Gypsie style! A few years ago I found a canopy bed abandoned on the street. I adopted and repaired it with the help of a carpenter. The wood is honey colored and has spiral turned bars. Three winters ago I started sewing the canopy curtains with a vintage design in white and burgundy. But, after sewing three of them, I ran out motivation... Next winter I realized that I wanted a more eclectic look and remembered that I had some blankets I brought from India: some of them in pure wool, in orange and plain white, and some others in synthetic fabric, in purple and turquoise, so I only bought some curtain rings with tongs to hang the blankets and even be able to open and close them like curtains. On the top I placed an orange-copper chenille blanket. But I didn’t stop there and, as I usually sleep with a slightly open door for cats to come and go, I decided to close the space between the bed and the wall. I installed a curtain bar on the wall and built a ceiling with blankets and placed a curtain to close the tent. This way I could place an electric heater and there is also room for the bedside table, a chest of drawers, a coat rack and my dog’s bed. In the summertime I place de bed between the door and the window and I hang a mosquito net and some pareos and shawls for privacy.... I love my bed tent! Last Autumn I changed the orange chenille blanket for a purple fabric that was a part theater curtain, I added a turquoise piece of fabric embroderied with a flower pattern and sequins that a fried gave me. I also added two other embroderied pieces of fabric to embellish the top side of the bed end and the side curtain which is one of the first curtains I sewed with a white woolen blanket behind. I added some decoration, of course: a beautiful antique corner shelf, some pendants I don't wear, fairy lights on the top, two butterfly pins, one Man's island cat pin, a Supernatural handmade pentagram... Behind the headboard I hung an antique burgundy brocaded curtain and I overlaped there a knitted shawl, that I made many years ago, in a colorful star pattern. I also hung the first curtains that I sew to cover the white wall and a thin burgundy curtain at the end of the corridor. In this way it looks warmer and cozier. And I brought everything to the next level by attaching a projector at the headboard placing a screen at the end of the bed! Now I have a bed cinema and it's awesome! I save a lot of energy because the space warms up in a few minutes and then it keeps the warmth.... Now I can hibernate like a gypsy bear princess! MORE IS MORE! Friend comment: "this is the bed we all dreamed of in our childhood, but you’re the one who made it come true!" Work and fight for your dreams!
