Another décor item that I think is timeless is wood flooring in classic stains (oak, maple, walnut in dark brown up to light blonde stain). On the other hand, the tile that's meant to look like wood flooring, and grey wood flooring, were both trendy flooring, but not timeless.

I would have loved to put real wood flooring in my house but living in a very humid climate makes it very risky to do so, so we had to use the faux wood tile to give it the warm look we wanted

Agree! I grew up with wall to wall carpet. The house I am in now, and it is the first time I have had hardwood floors. I love them. I do want to buy a few area rugs. When I think now about it. I remember decades ago, when I was a waitress at a wonderful family owned high end restaurant in NY (working my way through college) and the owner and his wife were having a meeting with architects to build a new home. They wanted modern, but something that wouldn’t date itself. Inner me, upon overhearing this conversation (as I was tending to a nearby table) wanted to shout out, “Tell them they want classic architecture! NOT modern!” This was in the late 80s. Truly words of wisdom! Just to undermine your words regarding white bedding: The white bedding I use is from my great-grandmother (we're talking early 1900reds!) and handmade, all the way. It's pure linen and I love the look and feel of it. It even still has lace inserts and to make it match the colour scheme, I simply buy pillow cases in the colour I want and put them underneath my linen ones so they shine through the lace. As said, it's all handmade bedlinen, from planting the flax to spinning and weaving and then sewing it and making the lace. It couldn't tell more of a story really. And yes, I maintain it so it'll last me, but that said, it was worse for wear when it was just lying around in the linen closet for decades seeing that my gran and mum thought it too boring. It took me hours upon hours to repair the lace, which with having been heavily starched before being put away had become brittle in places. I still wouldn't have it any other way.

Every house that I see in Tennessee, has subway tile, and I love it! Particularly the color tiles. Green with black trim, pink, blue, and a quality wallpaper can tie it all together for a really nice bathroom. Plus, these bathrooms tend to be small, so it’s an affordable solution.

Re: sconces- I live in a house built in 1927, and although the wiring has been updated there are no outlets in the stairs and upstairs hallway. And the outlet in the bathroom only works when the lights are on. I put candle sconces in the stairwell, upper hallway and bathroom and use the battery operated candles with built in timers. Yes, I have to reset them every couple months to ensure they are coming on at dusk, and change the batteries every couple months. But at night if I don’t want to turn on the overheads for a quick trip to the bathroom, etc. they provide a soft flickering glow and enough light to navigate by.

My home is full of color. I do not do white sheets. My favorites are florals, but they can be hard to find these days. I like to mix them with comforters and duvets in Turkish or otherwise bohemian patterns. Maybe because my grandma had floral sheets when I was growing up. She also sent *everything* out, including her sheets, to be laundered and pressed. I remember them coming back wrapped in blue paper tied with twine. She was old-school New York born in 1910. I picked up a lot about style and how to keep a home from her. She loved good stemware and flatware. She taught me how to properly make a bed and set a table. She had china that had been passed down to her. She had furniture with frieze upholstery . . . all those things left a profound impression on me.

I have nearly all these topics she discussed in my apartment well minus the built in book shelves, but she’s correct about these things and they are TIMELESS!!!! Velvet and vessels are also another timeless things to have in your home!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head with timeless things. I loved your idea to paint or change the color of a 4 poster bed if you feel it looks too much like “grandma’s”. You just gave me an idea…

I love all white bedding...thanks to you!❤ and I love built-ins. Unfortunately I'll be moving into an apartment, so I'll be going with shelves. Maybe a video on bookshelves?? Decor ideas, styles...etc. Love persian/oriental rugs. My style is transitional! I'm looking forward to finally styling my own place! Thanks for all your tips and ideas!

I found your page today, and I absolutely love it! I definitely subscribed, but can you talk a little bit slower? It seems so fast sometimes. Love your videos and will keep watching!

Hey Keva 💙 thanks for bringing subway tiles as a timeless design. It was first display in the Parisian metro in 1900 and created by the French designer Hector Guimard. I work for the Parisian metro that’s why I am so proud. One of my bathrooms is completely covered with the original white subway tiles with a touch of blue just like in the Parisian subway and white little pads on the floor like in one of the Parisian metro station, it’s a n homage to my company 😀 Have a great day 💙

I totally agree with the white bedding, but I discovered you have to get the right material. I just ordered a comforter that is too stark white cotton and it looks like an old school mattress pad. Whoops - time to return it.

I love the second bookshelf you showed for your example...looked like black metal with white shelves. Is that from Target? And I do LOVE my white subway tiles for just the reasons you mentioned....inexpensive, and always in style!

So funny I just watched a video over at House Of Valentina and she said the complete opposite respectfully about subway tiles. I find it so interesting to hear both sides and why’s. I love this. Keep it coming Kiva. ❤️🔥

I agree with the subway tile. I recently saw it with a dimensional wave…gorgeous! It’s so classic and looks so clean.

Yes it’s true about subway tile. It’s classic. I had it in the late 90’s, it’s still in style. I’ve had five different houses since then and people are still doing it.

Hand made rugs....usually oriental or Turkish. I have 3. They are so versatile while also being way easier to clean and change out compared to carpet I hate subway tiles. I had them in a rental, and I could never get them clean on the grout.

I put a little extra in my kitchen backsplash, a girl really needs a little marble in her life, so I have flower pattern carrara marble backsplash, with light gray gravel. Completely timeless and classic. I opted for a cheaper countertop, as they are easier to replace down the line when one comes into more money, yes my kitchen broke the budget! 😅 I have a lot of persian rugs, antiques, some I got from my mother and some purchased myself. I think it. brings class and style to any interior. (Get hardwood floors and kick out those wall to wall carpets!) I have a big kelim in the centre of my kitchen floor. Drop some of the furniture, get a persian rug instead! The canopy or four post beds are very american, what I believe will always be in style, hold on, is the wrought iron bed, it has been around for centuries, and can fit in most interior styles, I have one placed on a persian rug. 😉 Bought one handmade from Ireland, so classic and fantastic quality.

Great video! I'm decorating my apartment in Mid Century Modern style, because I love it, and, with it's low furniture, it's perfect for an apartment. My point is that stained wood furniture with clean lines should be added to the list. MCM style may have started decades ago, but it hasnt skipped a decade in it's popularity. Also, my Persian style rug and a couple of storage baskets takes my decor into MCM/Boho, which I love. Your videos are inspiring, and sometimes comforting. Keep it up, please.

Our bedroom, in a 2400 sq ft home is not big enough for a canopy. Agreed that they are classic, but I don’t think I’ll ever have another one.

Every (EVERY) YT designer who've said subway tiles are out, said something to the effect that, "they're still beautiful and I Iike them, but they're out, because they've been overdone". That's why I don't like "trends". Something is timeless and beautiful, but too many other people like it, so get rid of it?!? My house's decor style is 'me' and I never go out of style😋

Totally agree. I can't imagine shopping with all those other people in my head. I get things that I like whether people universally hate it, love it, or are indifferent to to. If they aren't paying my bills they don't get a vote. Lol.
