Honestly, im team retwist #1 cause I have small traditional locs. #2, im not a fan of seeing scalp or parts in my hair so I prefer the " grown out" look. I usually wait every 6 weeks to retwist. I also think letting my hair grow out is healthier because I have 3c type texture and it will break if I over manipulate in any kind of way.

Yes, I am all for the re-tie, 2 pt rotation. I do my re-tie every 8 weeks and it's working for me. I love how retwists look, but I'm all about low maintenance and minimalism. It's the retie for me. Your locs are gorgeous.

@micarae Жыл бұрын
@@Penelope416 Yes, I just hit 4 yrs in my journey and I still interlock every 8 weeks. My locs are compact/skinny and definitely more firmer feeling than with retwisted locs. I love them, they're like mini ropes. My daughter's first set of locs were traditional and retwisted and were softer feeling. She is now on loc set #3, approximately 220 microlocs and she loves the low maintenance.
@Penelope416 Жыл бұрын
@@micarae Thanks for your quick response! I've been doing more research on interlocking, and I'm glad it's worked for so many people. I'm just not sure if I would consistently do it. I may stick to retwisting, because I like the aesthetic of my locs looking more expanded, fluffy, and thicker. I think interlocking is good for people with high density (thicker hair) such as yours because they will still have a fuller appearance. But I have low to medium density, fine strands so it may look less full on me. Thanks for responding! Your locs are beautiful! 😀 😊

Can't retwist to save my life lol. Tried to do it a few times but failed miserably. So interlocking is my thing. I am a DIY-er so I installed my braidlocs and maintain them myself about every 7 weeks or so. i retwist my microlocs with no products :) i have 4c hair so it stays together for a while (idk if thats a factor but ive had no problems with unraveling too fast). im cool with it unraveling a little over time and hanging out like that for a while (about 6-8 weeks between retwists) bc it actually helps it mature faster by swelling and contracting on its own (freeform style). not the method if you like crisp looking long lasting retis but it works for me, my locs have matured very fast, and i love the volume! i also maintain the twisted roots by putting them in two strand twists or braids as im retwisting and keeping those in for at least 2 weeks!

Hey Keke! I support those pros and cons..I had quite a hard time choosing which way to maintain my microlocs. I started with interlocking (did it twice) before I got inspired to retwist. The time consuming nature of interlocking coupled with grabbing strands from the neighbor locs drove me into retwisting...that plus looking into the future, when I might be unable to retwist my hair I can go to a loctician and it won't be expensive -unlike interlocking. I however combine both methods; interlocking the locs all round my edges (coz they are prone to loosen after a retwist) then retwisting the rest. So far, so good, I'll know in a couple of months if it'll be a good decision. I honestly think that for those of us who thought they've 'escaped' from natural hair struggles become dumbfounded with the toll the maintainance of microlocs takes on someone once they in..esp to me. It's an easier process if you have a loctician or you're enthusiastic about your hair like Keke :-) For me, I take a month at a time..love my microlocs! I'd choose that anyday compared to loose natural. Choose wisely friends, what you'll be able to maintain in the long run. I wish I had the luxury of having and going to a loctician.

I have two locs (at my temples) and initially locked them using the interlocing method. After watching some videos after the fact I saw a bunch of people talking about how bad it is for the loc and how it’s makes them thinner, etcetera etcetera. Soooo, for months (I did them November 2020), I tried doing the re-twist method instead but when I tell you my hair did not loc at all and after adding just a spritz of water they were unraveled. Smh. I finally caved and just decided to interloc again cause there was months worth of new growth just sitting there. Plus I watched your videos and saw that the method wasn’t damaging your locs and you have a head full lol. It’s definitely a better method for my two little locs and because I don’t redo them until I see a significant amount of new growth I’m pretty positive I won’t experience any thinning or such. I just do “two” points (they’re random though so really not even two honestly) and I don’t use any tools. I just thread the end through the top with my fingers.

Can you guys explain why you went with the 2 pt rotation. I had my sisterlock consultation a couple weeks ago and she told me black hair must use the 4 pt rotation for anything 4a and up; however, I have extremely soft, but high density hair. it's really thick and long and my longest strands are over 22 inches. I started inserting my own microlocks with two strand twists but am deciding to wait until the end of installation to interlock at the roots. I have several different textures in my hair. Most of of the back is I feel 3c, I'm mostly 4a and some 4b, the other 2 I have no idea what they are but they aren't 4c. I just want to know will I be safe and still have healthy locs if I decide to do the 2 pt rotation with 3c, 4a, and 4b hair? I started the first 3 with the 4 pt rotation and it just seemed too too harsh and tight for my soft thick hair. Can you let me know if I'll be alright using the 2pt instead of the 4 pt? Thanks so much! I have the back finished and plan on finishing the sides and front hopefully by Monday.

There are SOOOO many things that I miss about my locs, and seeing yours make me miss them even more. But they were also low key, a nightmare. You are so right, that month goes by so fast and for me it got to the point where I dreaded having to retwist. @@tiara3139 I would assume both. If your going through your hair and you can feel/see where your last rotation ended, I would suggest not starting that rotation in that gap. If you’ve gone awhile without interlocking and you can’t feel/see the gap, I would assume that it’s safe to start the rotation where ever. Being that the hair has tangle/matted together quite a bit.

I am so in love with this hair. Questions, how did you start them?? What products did you use?? How do you retie?? What methods do you use?? I'm about to start mine this weekend. Can't tell if it's twists or loced all the way through. Please lmk. Thank you

I'm doing palm rolling because of my fine hair and early thinning. I don't have an active lifestyle and just like the fuller look.

Hi 👋🏾 I like to interlock my hair for same reasons you mentioned & my thin hair looks fuller.

I retwist my hair of course if you put water on your hair, sweat it will unravel. Re-tie or interlocking is bad for your hair and causes thinning and damage if you do it to often.

I started my microloc journey in December and I go to a professional to get it interlocked! I think once she tells me I don’t have to braid and band..I am going to attempt to self maintain with doing it myself

First time here and I’m glad I spotted you❣️ I have been searching for loc ideas for a while now but your hair is my trust choice style of locs. Your locs are gorgeous lady, thanks for sharing❣️

Your just gorgeous all around !!! Thank you for the video and content! I am in the process of considering combing out my “traditional locs” that where started with loc extension. Am at a year and a half with my own natural locs no extensions. I want body and don’t see me styling my hair in her future. I love the body your hair has !!!

My hair texture is 3b/c and so it will just slip out of a retwist so I LOOOOVE interlocking. Loooove it. Also my last touch up was only 2hrs (though I have much less locs and they are more on the medium size) Thank you for this video.😊 Super dope and informative.

I often wondered if you could retwist skinny locs versus interlock. I love your hair by the way. I want my locs a little larger than yours.

There is a good twist cream by this brand "jamaican mango and lime locking" it doesn't flake up up all. I haven't tied their wax but I'm sure it's good too.

I am retie all the way. My loctitan isn’t a fan of twisting/palm rolling.
