Honestly, im team retwist #1 cause I have small traditional locs. #2, im not a fan of seeing scalp or parts in my hair so I prefer the " grown out" look. I usually wait every 6 weeks to retwist. I also think letting my hair grow out is healthier because I have 3c type texture and it will break if I over manipulate in any kind of way.

Yes, I am all for the re-tie, 2 pt rotation. I do my re-tie every 8 weeks and it's working for me. I love how retwists look, but I'm all about low maintenance and minimalism. It's the retie for me. Your locs are gorgeous.

@micarae

@@Penelope416 Yes, I just hit 4 yrs in my journey and I still interlock every 8 weeks. My locs are compact/skinny and definitely more firmer feeling than with retwisted locs. I love them, they're like mini ropes. My daughter's first set of locs were traditional and retwisted and were softer feeling. She is now on loc set #3, approximately 220 microlocs and she loves the low maintenance.

@@micarae Thanks for your quick response! I've been doing more research on interlocking, and I'm glad it's worked for so many people. I'm just not sure if I would consistently do it. I may stick to retwisting, because I like the aesthetic of my locs looking more expanded, fluffy, and thicker. I think interlocking is good for people with high density (thicker hair) such as yours because they will still have a fuller appearance. But I have low to medium density, fine strands so it may look less full on me. Thanks for responding! Your locs are beautiful! 😀 😊

Can't retwist to save my life lol. Tried to do it a few times but failed miserably. So interlocking is my thing. I am a DIY-er so I installed my braidlocs and maintain them myself about every 7 weeks or so. My only cons with interlocking are 1) the time it takes and 2) the constant danger of interlocking hair belonging to another loc. Really love your locs and your volume is to die for!!

i retwist my microlocs with no products :) i have 4c hair so it stays together for a while (idk if thats a factor but ive had no problems with unraveling too fast). im cool with it unraveling a little over time and hanging out like that for a while (about 6-8 weeks between retwists) bc it actually helps it mature faster by swelling and contracting on its own (freeform style). not the method if you like crisp looking long lasting retis but it works for me, my locs have matured very fast, and i love the volume! i also maintain the twisted roots by putting them in two strand twists or braids as im retwisting and keeping those in for at least 2 weeks!

I have a very hyperactive special needs child who kept pulled her hair out. I tried to leave her just “natural” for 12 years. I finally got tired and started her with two strand twist on her 12th birthday. Within 2 weeks it looked horrible. So I went and got a interlock needle. And it works so well for me with her. I have to follow her around the house to get it done. I’ve had so many people tell me how “bad” it is to interlock. But no one offered to help me sooo lol. We are 6 weeks in so we shall see

I get my dreds interlocked every six months. I don't have to twist my hair for almost 8 weeks after I interlock, I just wash n oil it. I love interlocking because my hair is soft n it keeps them together. It takes me and hour to re twist and 4 hours when I get it interlock ed. 20 years locked here. I do cut my locks about 3 to 4 times a year to keep them neat and to stop them from getting too long

Hey Keke! I support those pros and cons..I had quite a hard time choosing which way to maintain my microlocs. I started with interlocking (did it twice) before I got inspired to retwist. The time consuming nature of interlocking coupled with grabbing strands from the neighbor locs drove me into retwisting...that plus looking into the future, when I might be unable to retwist my hair I can go to a loctician and it won't be expensive -unlike interlocking. I however combine both methods; interlocking the locs all round my edges (coz they are prone to loosen after a retwist) then retwisting the rest. So far, so good, I'll know in a couple of months if it'll be a good decision. I honestly think that for those of us who thought they've 'escaped' from natural hair struggles become dumbfounded with the toll the maintainance of microlocs takes on someone once they in..esp to me. It's an easier process if you have a loctician or you're enthusiastic about your hair like Keke :-) For me, I take a month at a time..love my microlocs! I'd choose that anyday compared to loose natural. Choose wisely friends, what you'll be able to maintain in the long run. I wish I had the luxury of having and going to a loctician.

I have two locs (at my temples) and initially locked them using the interlocing method. After watching some videos after the fact I saw a bunch of people talking about how bad it is for the loc and how it’s makes them thinner, etcetera etcetera. Soooo, for months (I did them November 2020), I tried doing the re-twist method instead but when I tell you my hair did not loc at all and after adding just a spritz of water they were unraveled. Smh. I finally caved and just decided to interloc again cause there was months worth of new growth just sitting there. Plus I watched your videos and saw that the method wasn’t damaging your locs and you have a head full lol. It’s definitely a better method for my two little locs and because I don’t redo them until I see a significant amount of new growth I’m pretty positive I won’t experience any thinning or such. I just do “two” points (they’re random though so really not even two honestly) and I don’t use any tools. I just thread the end through the top with my fingers.

Can you guys explain why you went with the 2 pt rotation. I had my sisterlock consultation a couple weeks ago and she told me black hair must use the 4 pt rotation for anything 4a and up; however, I have extremely soft, but high density hair. it's really thick and long and my longest strands are over 22 inches. I started inserting my own microlocks with two strand twists but am deciding to wait until the end of installation to interlock at the roots. I have several different textures in my hair. Most of of the back is I feel 3c, I'm mostly 4a and some 4b, the other 2 I have no idea what they are but they aren't 4c. I just want to know will I be safe and still have healthy locs if I decide to do the 2 pt rotation with 3c, 4a, and 4b hair? I started the first 3 with the 4 pt rotation and it just seemed too too harsh and tight for my soft thick hair. Can you let me know if I'll be alright using the 2pt instead of the 4 pt? Thanks so much! I have the back finished and plan on finishing the sides and front hopefully by Monday.

omfg, i swear. when i had my micro locs, they were about that size. maybe lightly bigger. but i swear, every time i would retie, they would always get caught up in each other. no matter what way i used to interlock them. by the end, i would only interlock with my fingers because it was the easiest to keep each lock separate. There are SOOOO many things that I miss about my locs, and seeing yours make me miss them even more. But they were also low key, a nightmare. You are so right, that month goes by so fast and for me it got to the point where I dreaded having to retwist. I started neglecting the back, and they got so matted together that I just ended up taking them out. But I miss them so much you have no idea!

The unraveling of the locs is what took me so long to start my locs I hate all the product and clips when I found out about microlocs with the 2,3, and 4 pt rotation I did my locs the next day

Hello I am in Newbie and I am totally interested in doing the micro locs can you advise on what brand of Human Hair to use or can I ask what hair did you use? Thanks for sharing your talent with us totally appreciate it, your videos have encouraged me to go micro locs

I just took out my original love and interlocked ( stylist called them micro).. but I originally did my deposit foe sisterlocs. I love the versatility with my hair so I’m not complaining about maintenance and upkeep. Thank you foe dropping knowledge.

I’ve had my micro locs for 5 yrs now. After a yr of having my locks, I switched to the 2 point rotation. Long story short I noticed holes in a few of my locs and I was completely over it 🙄. I switched to a 3 point rotation and I haven’t had a problem since. If you find a technique to avoid holes with the 2 point rotation, Please let me know!! A little more volume couldn’t hurt 😄

Do you mind telling me how to avoid holes? Like I hear her say don’t interlock through the same way twice but does she mean since the last time you touched up a month before or like the current interlocking session?
@kel.insight303
@kel.insight303 3 жыл бұрын
@@tiara3139 I would assume both. If your going through your hair and you can feel/see where your last rotation ended, I would suggest not starting that rotation in that gap. If you’ve gone awhile without interlocking and you can’t feel/see the gap, I would assume that it’s safe to start the rotation where ever. Being that the hair has tangle/matted together quite a bit.

Shea butter and oils are good products for loc maintenance it gives shine its soft and it moisturizes and it does not leave build up.

I tried palm rolling with my first set of microlocs. My hair laughed and it was a waste of time and energy. I'll be interlocking 3pt rotation this go around. Just had to get my mind set on doing every few weeks.

I am so in love with this hair. Questions, how did you start them?? What products did you use?? How do you retie?? What methods do you use?? I'm about to start mine this weekend. Can't tell if it's twists or loced all the way through. Please lmk. Thank you

I'm doing palm rolling because of my fine hair and early thinning. I don't have an active lifestyle and just like the fuller look.

I retwist my hair of course if you put water on your hair, sweat it will unravel. Re-tie or interlocking is bad for your hair and causes thinning and damage if you do it to often.

My hair texture is 3b/c and so it will just slip out of a retwist so I LOOOOVE interlocking. Loooove it. Also my last touch up was only 2hrs (though I have much less locs and they are more on the medium size) Thank you for this video.😊 Super dope and informative.

There is a good twist cream by this brand "jamaican mango and lime locking" it doesn't flake up up all. I haven't tied their wax but I'm sure it's good too.
