Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small (or more if you can afford it) donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Or, if you prefer "Cash App" you can use: cash.me/$Lifeprint Or use Patreon at www.patreon.com/ASLU Every little bit helps so much! Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

Bill Vicars I just donated to the Patreon and I wanted to double check with you to make sure it went through!

Renee, Your donation "did" go through (they recently sent me an email stating such) -- and as far as I can tell you were the first person to donate via the Patreon account. I was wondering if anyone was ever going to use Patreon -- and you did -- yay! Thanks so much!

Bill Vicars Yay! You’re so welcome! It’s the least I could do considering what you do for us!

You have taught me so very much, and am so grateful!! I don’t have enough to buy clothes but I would like to send you a check. You do so much for others, it’s only fair that your students give something back in return! Where can I send a check? And thank you!!!

Lynn, Please know that I'm touched and inspired by your gesture but I'd feel way better knowing that you are taking care of yourself and/or those in your local circle of influence. While I appreciate the thought (and donations are indeed very helpful), don't you dare send me a check -- nor worry about donating at this time. Instead wait until you are in a (much) better financial situation or just "pay it forward" by helping others in ways that better match your current situation. Warm regards, - Dr. Bill

Bill Vicars Thank you for your understanding!! I’ve always thought that the work you do is of huge importance!! ❤️🤟

Plus, there are other ways to help than "financial." Clicking the "like" button on a video. Subscribing. Telling your social media contacts about the KZbin.com/billvicars channel Posting a link to Lifeprint.com from a personal Facebook page, etc. . . . (Or hey, maybe a longshot here, but if you know any rich folks ask "them" to donate on your behalf. Sort of wild that a "one percenter" could give a teeny, tiny fraction of their wealth and make such an outsized positive impact on others. )

You signed "look like", but it also is very similar to "gold, California" could you clarify the difference between the two signs sometime in the future? Thank you!
@sign-language4 жыл бұрын
LOOK-LIKE is going to start near the eye and/or the nose and then transition into a slight side to side sliding movement as in one of the versions of SAME/similar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qovRqnaGls6ForM Over time the sign has evolved to reduce the side to side movement to instead just point to or near the eye (or even the nose) and then move outward and to the dominant side a bit using a single (not repeated) movement. GOLD / CALIFORNIA starts near the earlobe. "California" has evolved quite a bit over the years. It started out by doing the sign GOLD (as in California is the golden state). The sign GOLD (at least one version of it anyway) points to the earlobe and then signs "YELLOW." (The yellow stuff in your earlobe is gold -- or I suppose it could be earwax...but eww.). You will see California signed by some folks starting with a "5" handshape and doing a single twist downward into a "Y" handshape. That version is a natural, advanced, evolution of the sign and is very common. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5uym3asrNiod80 The more in a hurry, tired, casual, or drunk the signer is -- are the further away from the eye / nose / earlobe those signs will appear.

For a good beginner ASL video, see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epKwm6VqdsuMd5I Watch it for 10 minutes before deciding whether or not to give up. There is no voice on that video. That is a good thing if you "really" want to learn how to communicate in a visual language. For ASL lessons and a self-study program, see: lifeprint.com/asl101/lessons/lessons.htm For a good “100 First ASL Signs” resource, see: lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/concepts.htm To learn basic fingerspelling help, see kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJKUknSOpbulaNk For fingerspelling practice, see asl.ms/mobile/
