What you say is true of any language, I'm afraid. A dictionary can help if you use it well but it's not going to teach you anything. And to be frank I have lots of paper dictionaries which I preserve religiously but hardly ever use now - it's so easy to look up words in online dictionaries!

I've been trying to learn russian mainly through english resources. My native language is spanish, and i was having a hard time figuring out the difference between для and за. Well, if you speak spanish, think of для as para and за as por. Makes more sense now lol

One of the things that has given me the most problems is prefixes on verbs. I understand what they all mean, but is it true that sometimes a verb with a prefix has the same exact meaning/usage as the verb without the prefix? For instance, махнуть and взмахнуть - to wave. Or, помахать and замахать - to wave. It's really frustrating seeing so many verbs with the same English translation. Is it true that with some verbs which have prefixes the traditional prefix meanings don't apply and the verb with the prefix can be used just like the verb without the prefix? Or does the prefix always change the meaning a little bit? Like how "за" can mean "to start to." So, замахать would mean to start to wave instead of just to wave. Or, could замахать be used just as "to wave"?

Thank you for the video, it is great! However, there are still some overlaps in usage between для и за which I don't fully understand. Example from your video: "Сделай это для меня" vs "Миша сделал контрольную за друга". These two sentences convey exactly the same message with the same verb, yet the prepositions are different. Could you elaborate this?

Сделай это для меня - this sentence conveys the idea: “do me a favor; do it for my sake”. Миша сделал контрольную за друга - It was the test of Misha’s friend, but Misha took his test because, probably, he asked Misha to do so. Hope it helps.

Lutch Bizin , хороший вопрос. ВЫХОДИТЬ (где?) - место - предложный падеж. ВЫХОДИТЬ - не глагол движения.

Выходить - это глагол движения с приставкой, обычно он используется с существительными: 1. в винительном падеже: я выхожу (куда?) на улицу, я завтра выхожу (куда?) на работу, он выходит (куда?) во двор. 2. в родительном падеже: я выхожу (откуда?) из дома, я выхожу (откуда?) из библиотеки. Но иногда мы используем глагол "ВЫХОДИТЬ" с предложным падежом, когда говорим о location (где): где Вы выходите? Я выхожу на следующей остановке. Вам может помочь ориентироваться ВОПРОС: куда? = винительный, откуда?= родительный, где? = предложный.
